Name That Planet

Ok fellow browncoats, here aboard the Firefly
Zrenity we have 3 cats. My wife just informed me the one which has been hanging around for several weeks and has adopted us,she has named "Zoey".This has gotten me to thinking.

Lets say you're just flying around the verse and you came upon this little world with no "Keep off the grass" sign on it. Nice size, out of the way and best of all, unnamed. What do you call it? You get to name your own planet(moon).

Do you name it after one or all of your kids? Cat? Dog? Pet gerbil? What?

heres some samples I would pick

Beaumont,
Brye Bair,
Colle Kir,
Zett land,

I know most of these you will have no idea what or why they would be named that way. but that is my point. THEY ARE YOUR NAMES, for your planets.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Guess it would depend. I would try to pick a name that suits the place. I would most likely use a name from mythology or Earth that was, like a place or city name.

Here's some names I think would be great planet names:

Skye
Culloden
Shenandoah
Caledonia
Donegal

The namin' of a whole world would require some powerful thinkin' on before I'd select an appropriate name, but in a pinch I reckon I'd probably pick a name that would convey safety, shelter, refuge, things like that.

"Asylum" comes to mind.

The other thought would be how the hell does someone go to all the trouble of teraforming a moon, and then forget to lay claim to it? Maybe I'd call it "Toopid" cause the people who forgot to settle it must have been too stupid!

(OK, Toopid is also the name of my cat.)

in the future the corporations will be the gods and rule all above and below...
we'll have planets with names like....

Haliburton Prime
the moons of Coca-Cola
Exxonia
SunMicro
and of course the wonderful world of... WalMarticus

Yep DAYVE I'm sure the big corps would lay claim to most of the big to medium size planets and moons so we may even get some

Bush planet
Nike Jordan
St.Enrons and such

MSG, Pax Gaudium? Anything with PAX in the name folks may avoid.

"Coffee" sounds like a great planet TRISTAN. One I'd visit every morning before going out into the verse.

BIGDAMNNOBODY,well if you had you own planet named BOB you'd be a BDSomebody. "Lets go to Bobs.Hes got the biggest damn pool in the verse. And remember Bobs moto, "clothing optional"

I'd didn't think of them being terra formed,but it's your world. So it could be or not.

I want to tac on a little extra part to this post.Since it's your planet. You own it. What are your rules if any

NO SMOKING
NO DRINKING (including no mudders milk)
NO ONE UNDER 18
NO ONE OVER 102

and so on. Come on your not going to let visitors just trash the place are ya?

Hmmm rules now

1- you can do anything you want as long as it doesn't cause a problem for anyone including you.
a- If you do something that causes a problem, you must come up with a solution to fix it.
b- If you can't come up with a solution, I will provide one for you and I don't think you'll like my solution.

That should take care of it. It's the only rule in my classroom

Actually, re-thinking that, seeing as I'm Immortal and all, the whole planet should be Holy Ground.
No blades allowed, except for, you know, little paring knives for decadent fruit peeling.

Bring a Pillow. You cannot land on Boudoir unless you bring a pillow, preferably of 100% non-toxic biodegradable materials.

If I had a planet I'd name it This Planet or maybe Burma I don't know. As for rules I'm still working out the kinks.

thanks for your posts.I forgot to add that naming your planet also helps MANly,Jayne men like myself that refuse to stop and ask for directions on family vacations in the verse.

Z breaks out the 'ol verse map " Lets see take a left at Culloden, right at Asylum. Fly past 3 space markers, then turn down at Kia-Fey. Go past the twin pleasure worlds of Pax Gaudiun and Love Slave. Turn up at "This Planet" and left again at Toopid. Skipped past WalMarlieus were all the WalMartians go and now here we are.Bob Dole."

"Dad we wanted to go to Bob planet! Not Bob Dole world!"

"Sorry. I must have gotten lost on the map here where it says, ERROR,Planet Not Found. Guess you could say that we're "Lost in Space"
