I found this on Yahoo! News in an article about Taylor Hicks from American Idol:

Runner-up Katharine McPhee, 22, stood at 34th on Amazon.com's sales chart with her Idol single, a pairing of "My Destiny" and "Over the Rainbow," the latter in place of her American Idols Season 5: Encores album contribution, "Think." According to the site, it'll be out Jun. 27.

McPhee's single, like Hicks', is being released by the RCA Music Group. Unlike Hicks, McPhee hasn't had her presumed deal officially announced. An email inquiry to Sony BMG, parent company of RCA, was not immediately returned Wednesday.

In addition to her recording career, McPhee reportedly is being wooed with acting offers by the likes of Steven Spielberg to Joss Whedon, currently at work on the big-screen Wonder Woman movie.

The term that comes to mind is "Gag me with a spoon."

All I'm saying is, if this is the direction Joos is leaning towards, I'm just a little unsettled. I mean, it's not like he doesn't know good actresses for the role (Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, hint, hint).

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Could be Joss is looking to rope in the American Idol viewers if he casts her as Wonder Woman. So much for his wanting an "unknown" for the part.

I have to admit if this is true, and Joss does cast her, I would be disappointed. I know he may have taken some heat for "Serenity" not doing as well as they may have hoped at the box office, but I hate to think he would do something like casting a "reality" contestant to put butts in seats.

Particularly since Idol has a proven track record for *not* putting butts in seats in theaters.

This might be a hoax. I won't believe any articles on who's going to play Wonder Woman b/c it might not be what Joss wants.
Only until Joss makes an announcement (and judging by all this hoopla he HAS to) is when I take it as truth.

He has a tendency to pick the unknowns-The ones we've seen before but ignored.

I see your point. It could be something unfounded from an uncredible source. However, most of the stuff I read on Yahoo! News, unless it's in the tabloid section (which I don't tend to read very often) is usually true. That being said, maybe it's just an instance poor judgement of the part of Joss. Even genius folk like him have their "duh" moments.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Joss quoted not too terribly long ago that it's not his choice who ultimately gets cast as WW? I could have sworn that he's actually said more than once that he'd be more than happy to offer his input (and he had some ideas but wasn't telling us who), but when the final decision comes down it'll be made by the studio casting group?

Agreed. My t.v. makes a giant sucking sound whenever I flip past idol to get to pbs.

It's probably just an ugly rumour to make everyone think that the contestant's really are going to be famous and not just disappear into the discount bins at the record store.

The only news I like to read about the show involves fan on fan violence

From my shiny news files:

Police: Man Attacks Mother Over 'American Idol'

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- A Plattsburgh man is facing felony charges for allegedly striking his mother in the head after the two disagreed about the fate of an "American Idol" contestant.

According to court records, Cory Favreau, 24, was watching the television show's finale on May 24 with his mother, Jan Chagnon.

His mother made comments that contestant Katharine McPhee was going to have a successful career despite losing to another contestant, Taylor Hicks.

Favreau allegedly stood up, made a malicious comment to his mother and struck her in the head with a sharp object.

Chagnon was treated at a local hospital for a cut to the top of her head and was released.

Favreau faces second-degree assault charges.

Hmm...maybe Joss is wooing her for a small supporting role? As wacky as the studios can get (FOX *cough*), I don't see them casting someone who, while well-known, hasn't proven themselves as a quality or bankable actor yet. I especially don't see Joss doing that. *cough*. I mean, yes, Serenity was consisting of no big-name actors, but they had at least proven themselves as quality actors via the show. So i don't see that happening. Especially for a big-budget blockbuster-y type thing like this.

Also, maybe Joss just wants her to come sing at his birthday party?

I'm babbling like a moonbrain.
