I was none of the above.
I started out ok , honor classes & all.But soon rebellion took over. I dyed my hair black, wore only black. Listened to depersssive music ,smoked cigarettes, wrote poems about death. Had weird looking friends.Somehow I never got in too much trouble. Eventually dropped out. Got my ged & went to college, got an associates degree .Had many a good time, many bad. But REALLY wouln't want my kids to do it that way.
But I also met my husband in sophmore year english class.

Probably closest to A. Perhaps C in that I have always had good grades and often enjoy fantasy/sci-fi type things. Mostly in my school being intelligent wasn't a barrier to popularity. Like others have said I moved quite easily between groups - I had close friends who were A, B and C types (not so sure about D). To be honest I think my school was probably quite different from the average high school, firstly because I live in the UK the last two years of school (Sixth form) are optional, so most people there are quite bright. Secondly because my school had large number of people from well off backgrounds. Also many of us came from different schools (in sixth form you often change schools) which meant there were lots of connections between different friendship groups. The result was basically that although there were different cliques of people there were loosely defined and fluid.

I hope that's not just boring :)

AFTERGLOW

Hmmm...how 'bout catigory "U" for Unpopular. I had a few friends (and lots of pen pals) but for the most part high school was a terrible experience and I'm glad it's over. That aside, there were some bright spots:
-Junior Classical League (nationwide Latin & Greek club...anyone here alumni?)
-Debate team
-Community theatre company (did everything from a little acting to building and tearing down sets, box office sales, ushering, selling refreshments at intermission...anything that meant I could be involved)
-Frequent road trips in my 1983 Nissan Pulsar NX (with sun roof and flip up headlights...though I was driving it in 1991 )
-Mock Trial team (we even got to state once!)
So I was a hippie classics debate sci-fi wierdo.
Now, I'm proud of my geekdom.
And even prouder to be a Browncoat!

Let you know in two years!

Junior high:

Mostly a clown, with one good friend, although everybody knows me, although I've been prone to fits of depression and brooding. Prodigy, on good terms with everybody, sort of athletic, hung out with only that one friend.

High school's going to be the same, I think.

Although there is about 50-65 people in my entire school, K-9, so moving to a city will be an adjustment.

KAYNA

I love my captain

B/C/D combonation. The ostracisim started in elementary school and never really went away, though not as bad in high school. Less open at least. Still wanted to maim them horribly. Hated my school and ploted destroying the place.

I only ever had a few real friends at a time but was willing to be friendly with anyone that was friendly back. No self-esteem in 9th grade but eventually got to the point of fu** you, I'l do my own thing. Hated social gatherings. Spent most of my spare time by myself.

Made select choir a year early and got A's in every art class I took so pretty artsy. My obsession was less any Sci/Fi thing than Fantasy. Especially fantasy books. Huge reader, still am, anything and everything with fantasy on top of my list. Still love most classic sci/fi though.

Problems with depression (really hit me hard my junior year of high school) and lazyness. I always aced tests without studying but never did homework. Who's heard this speech from a teacher? "We know you can do so much better. You have so much potential..." They all liked me though, cause I participated in calss and had real, intelligent discussions on nearly any given topic.

This should illustrate some of the situation.
I once presented a "bill" to my government class (we were doing a mock Congress thing) on legalizing prostitution just to get a rise out of them all. They were mostly ignorant, Mighigan redneck, uber-christians that sent horrible threats to wiccan friend of mine. They collectivly voted to legalize pot and lower the drinking age but voted against mine just because "it's wrong"

I have no plans to ever go to a high school reunion.

...Wow. I'm sorry that that got so long.

SINGATE

Kayna, you sound like a younger, female version of me. Though I never joined any clubs or participated in school activites.

I was a sci-fi/fantasy geek from the time I first saw the original Star Trek reruns in my childhood. Then Star Wars came along and fully cemented sci-fi as my favorited genre. These things added to my being overweight and wearing glasses did not make me a popular boy.

I played D&D and was able to maintain an A/B average without even trying. There were two guys I went to school with who were troublemakers but I got in good with them by helping them pass a few classes. This insured that few people would mess with me. Unfortunately one of them got sent to drug rehab and the other was expelled for nearly beating some kid to death. There went my protection. Yeah, it's selfish of me but I never felt much empathy for my classmates and I assure you no one else ever helped me out.

Moved to a new state just before the start of junior year which ended up to be a blessing in disguise. I really embraced the fuck everyone else attitude, dropping F-bombs like I was getting paid for it and generally not giving damn what people thought about me. The weird thing is that for some reason people responded in a positve way. I ended up having friends who were sci-fi nerds, athletes, business wannabes(guys who wore suits to school!), and some bonafide geniuses. Go figure.

I still have no interest in going to any reunion and have not been in contact with any of my former classmates.

SHINYGEEKET

My freshmen year of high school I was kind of an A/C combo, minus the Cordelia-ness and the Star Trek obsession (though there were and are other geekier obsessions, which I shan't discuss here). The school I attended that year was tiny, barely hundred students, so I had a lot of friends my age and older. That was also the year that most of my friends were in bands so there where a lot of shows to hang out at.

Sophmore year I became a B/C type mostly because I moved to a new area and shortly before moving by dad passed away, so I sort of retreated into myself. I spent the last three years of high school just studying and hanging out with a core group consisting of about 5 other people. Towards the end of high school my group of friends kind of imploded mainly due to my toxic former best friend. I sure everyone has had that relationship that started out good, but eventually went horribly, horribly wrong, right? Well if this person has been my boyfriend, the relationship would have bordered on abusive.

So now here it is, almost exactly a year since my high school graduation and I guess I would call myself a D type. I've got a pretty good group of friends (many whom which I went to high school with, but never really hung out with) and I'd consider myself independent what with the college life and a spanking new job .

I'm a B/C/D mix. Definitely down with the smart part, liked sci-fi, but just to read and watch on little or big screen, not fannish. I was a BIG band geek. At my high school, it was actually kind of cool to be a smart band geek, because our band was really good, and, it being the armpit of the midwest, getting into a far away college was viewed as a good thing.

But, as far as me personally, I was so not cool! I tried, did activities galore: all the various little bands, the school musical, soccer, even a little stint with pompoms (shudder) but I didn't bond with the locals, except a few friends. I guess, all in all, I was pretty invisible.

The summer before my senior year I met some people I really liked. People not from my school. So then I bailed on all my activities to could hang out with the funner people. I hated my senior year - I was counting the days until I got out. And life has been so much better since - high school was just so lame!!

Good thread Chrisisall. It's fun to revisit - I haven't thought about high school in years! Seems like it all happened to a different person.

Mal4prez, My school was the same. Band wasn't a bad thing. Ours was quite good too.

Was a Star Wars fan and original Battlestar Galactica fan but not a trekkie, so I got most of my sci-fi input via books. Stephen R Donaldson was my favorite in high school.

Kinda ages me... sigh.

I was A,B, and D. I cheered and did all the popular stuff but I also liked being alone with my thoughts and pondering stuff with different people. Being popular was fun but its sooo fake, people either feared you or kissed your ass.

I liked hanging out with the goth,sci-fi,nerdy,rock band people. they were very accepting and always had something interesting to say. Out of all my friends from high school they are the only ones I still talk to. Well, except my best friend who was "The Hot Chick/Prom Queen" in school, we still talk like we live next door, even though we are about 3,000 miles away.

High School was good times but I dont think I'd relive any of it again.

I was the typical B and C student in school. Hung out in a small group of friends which still keep in touch to this day. All of us where in the NJROTC unit for 4 yrs and on the Rifleteam. Now most people think of rifleteam as spinning and throwing the dummy fake ones but we shot 22 cal pellet rifles competitively in school. We're ranked number 1 in the state of WA from 1994 - 1998. We did our own things. We didn't do the traditional HS things. Football games on friday nights, homecomings, proms none of that stuff. We had more interest in 4-wheelin, drinking beer (when we could get it), watching movies and playing video games.

A total mix. I thought I was a geek but I was too much of misfit and too lazy to be in the honor-roll crowd and only attempted sports for a year (HS coaches are freaky). Years after HS I met a girl at party, several cities away who blurted out "hey you went to my school, you were that smart stoner." I guess if there have to be labels for those years I'd rather have "smart-stoner" over the image I had of myself at the time.

MEGMAC

I was equal parts B and C.

I absolutely hated school, I never fit in at all. My group of friends were kind of semi-popular, but I was always on the outside looking in. The 'popular' crowd would always find something to pick on me and my best friend about.

Also, being asexual meant that while other girls became interested in boys I was still more interested in the next series of Buffy, which meant being labelled 'frigid'. I've also always been mature for my age, so I used to read books that most of them hadn't heard of yet so I was a 'swot'.

Basically, the whole school experience turned me into a nervous wreck with social anxiety, which still effects me now three years out of school.

D, of the choices you list. I went to a very small high school (our graduating class had something like 30 students) and I got along with people tolerably well, I just didn't like very many of them. I think because it was such a small group it wasn't as clinically divided along clique lines.

In college I retained that same...aloofness...one might say, but developed the ability to mask it. I actually dabbled at being an A (or rather, befriending people I didn't actually think much of) for a few semesters, only to find it exhausting. I then reverted back to a D and find myself still quite content.

I'm very smart.

CYBERSNARK

C all the way. Honour Roll, straigh As, top of the curve --all of which sounds impressive until you realize that 99% of my high school was completely and utterly stupid. Like "make Jayne look like a criminal mastermind" stupid.

I was kinda the "stealth rebel" --I quickly learned that being an Honour Roll student means the teachers will let you get away with anything. Skipping, lateness, accusations of vandalism (though, to be fair, I didn't start the fire, I just happened to be nearby when the Principal arrived), disrespectfulness, fights, sneaking off mid-class to the darkroom with a cute brunette (who also happened to be an honour student). . .

Uh, where was I?

There were a few shining lights, two of whom ended up being fairly close friends, and one of whom became my first love, though I haven't seen any of them for years.

Hung out in the Art room a lot, with a handful of other geeks and loners (who weren't necessarily any smarter than everyone else, they were just wierder). I wouldn't call myself popular, but looking back, I realize that a lot of people knew me by name.

TRIGGERHAPPY

Well considering i am in high school now, i wanted to delurk for a change and answer. At this point i'm a sophomore and i haven't changed much since 8th grade. I would say i'm a mix...

I mean i'm definately not the smartest person in my class. I have high IQ but i struggle with my honors classes right now. I'm pretty athletic I.E. waterpolo and swim. And I play the violin. I guess you could describe me as a geek/jock. But what would that make me? A Gock? A Jeek? Hmm.

I'd definately say i was a tomboy. I mean i love video games and i like guy things. And i get obsessed with things very easily. Never anything like Firefly though. *sigh* All started with those darn pokemon! I always had a fairly large amount of friends after my wussy elementary school days. I can take care of myself now but i was definatelly bullied in elementary school. (i'm sad to say...) But i guess i've toughened up now. No way anybody's gonna mess around with me anymore.

So i guess i'll end this increasingly large response and ask you guys what you think i am. A, B, C, D, or none of the above?
