Had this happen to me when I was a kid except it was 7-UP and Pixie Sticks (flavored, colored sugar in a tube in case no one remembers). At the time it seemed like a great way to add flavors to 7-UP. Took a while to clean up the mess though it wasn't as violent as what was in the video.

WARNING: Geekiness begins

The explanation about nucleation sites leading to more bubbles is pretty good. It doesn't have to be carbonated liquid either. If you have a very clean mug and heat some water in a microwave, you can superheat the water (water heated above 212F but it's not boiling, or not boiling very much). As soon as you add some type of powder (a.k.a., nucleation sites), the water will start boiling violently. Tested this with various subtstance until the garlic powder/hot water combo broke my coffee mug.

END WARNING: Geekiness ends.

Please resume normal activities. Slight headaches and dizziness are common symptoms of high levels of geek exposure. Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids and the symptoms should go away.
