Just wonderin' if there's any browncoats in Ohio. Seeing as how Ohio has a high population I'm guessing there's a few. (seriously at least three)
Anywho, if anyone is reading this and from Ohio, just shout out where in Ohio you're from.

Oh and also wether you have a lock on your house, or something like say, a guard dog, or wether you have a motion sensor on your outdoor lights. Ya know things like that. So I can point burgla-I mean friends in your direction.

Considering there was a charity screening in Cleveland

http://www.adamwhiting.com/Firefly/SNEN-CLE/

and considering there's a Firefly Ohio group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/firefly-ohio/

I think it's safe to say there are Browncoats in Ohio.

Have no fear Perfectshow I am from Ohio as well! I didn't think there were many either. I'm from Toledo, (hopefully you know where that is since it's one of the major cities in the state). Besides me and my friends not many people here seem to know what Serenity is.

Here there are 3 main movie theaters and they pulled Serenity after 3 weeks I think. I wanted to see if more but it was gone. Plus nothing else was really playing so I was pretty mad.

One last thing that I'm curious about if I may ask all who read. Anyone not from Ohio know of any Ohio stereotypes in movies or anything? It seems we get a hickish type rap sometimes and it's definetly not that around me. Just a few thoughts. Stay shiny all.

Now wait a second, I live in Toledo and I am not depressed at all! I'm perfectly content for the moment going to the unniversity of Toledo. People are a bit disgruntled but not everyone. Maybe it's cause they aren't Browncoats, that's why they are grumpy. But our economy sucks plus with the riots last year, a terrorist being indicted here, and a priest who went to jail for like 15-life, our morale has been down a bit. But Firefly keeps me kicking! lol

Dayton here also, so we do have some representation.

I really thought the Neon theater would have been a great little venue for the charity screening on the 23rd but alas, my lifelong fear of having a party and no-one showing up was enough to keep me from pursuing it.

Maybe next year.

... I'm in.

Hmm... from reading the imponderables, all i know about ohio is that is where Kenobius is.

Actually i've got a question.... been looking at colleges, and have my eye on a college by the name of Oberlin, for creative writing, as sorta the dream school. (As in, i could only afford if i win the lottery, or the lottery that is financial aid)...

Are small Ohio college towns as cool as hyperurban society makes them out to be? (I live in Silicon Valley, nothing but suburb for miles upon miles around.)

I've been to Oberlin (to visit). My friend's sister is a student there and I went to see her perform a radio show. I didn't get to go on a tour or see much of the campus, but what I saw was nice. It's pretty and kinda cozy there.

Anyway... I live in a small college town. (I'd say which college, but I'm not allowed to give out that kind of detail. Sorry.) And, I'll probably be living in another one when I go off to college after next year.

Ummm... are they as cool as people say? That's a little hard to answer... I guess I'm not sure how they're viewed by the outside world. I could probably answer a lot better if I had a little more info.

If you don't mind my asking, what would want to find in a small Ohio college town for it to be what you're looking for? What would you want it to be like?

I guess it depends on who you are, too. A lot of my friends can't wait to get out of here and go on to "bigger and better things" elsewhere. Me, I kind of like our city. But, I'm not fond of big cities and large crowds and all that. I like our town because it is small and simple. It's nice. But, that's not for everyone. I like it, though.

Well bigger n better can piss you off if you grow up in it. Granted my area isnt.. it isnt dirty like the streets of some cities seem to be (San Francisco and London spring to mind)... but it's... well, it's just so urban. in my own corner of this verse, all i can find if i go walking or biking is streets streets and more streets.

What my idealized hopes for a small college town are? Hmmm....

If i could bike to almost everywhere. (Ok maybe nowhere is that small.)

If i could actually find some sorta of open space that vaguely resembles a countryside. (Best i have is a park, it's green n all, but being next to a swimming pool and near a big library... not the most tranquil of places.)

If I could actually see more than twenty stars at night, that'd be cool. (Either the sky is kinda hazy, or i live in a light-polluted area.)

Eh, idealism aside, this whole creative writing thing, if i'm doing it right, should work on inspiration, new experiences, new ideas... Any place different then where I grewed up would be good.

But if as mentioned, if i dont get me any financial aid, atm i'll end up at Riverside, in L.A. which is like where i am, but worse.

Well, I bet you could find yourself a small Ohio college town that at least comes close to meeting your standards. I'm basing that conclusion on my own little piece of the 'verse (plus some that I've visited) and it matches most of what you mentioned.

You can bike almost anywhere where I live. There's only really one large road (a highway that runs through) that you wouldn't want to travel on and might not even want to cross, though I'm sure the latter could be done. Other than that, though, you can pretty much go anywhere you want with a bike as your mode of transporation. And, I know we're not the only place like that. You might be surprised, but you can find some really small places. In fact, I'm willing to be there's plenty of small college towns smaller than mine where you literally could ride your bike around with no impeding highways at all.

Trust me when I say there's no shortage of countryside in Ohio. Oh, there's large cities, too. (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, etc.) But, countryside surrounds most places, especially the towns and small cities. Once you get beyond city limits (and, sometimes, within them, depending on where you are and just how tiny and country-like it is), there's plenty of open spaces. And parks, at least in my city, are nice. Mine is in between a cemetery and some houses (as opposed to the pool and library you mentioned). It's pretty large, so you have no real distractions from the outside once you're in it.

My town isn't exactly the most charming place on earth... it certainly isn't an Everwood or a Stars Hollow (if you're familiar with Everwood or Gilmore Girls, you know what I mean). But, it is a nice little town and there are others that are much prettier. Have you ever heard of the College of Wooster? That's another Ohio college and the campus is really beautiful. I imagine it's probably closer to the peaceful, picturesque piece of ispiration you seem to be seeking.

There are plenty of visible stars in Ohio, too. Again, as most Ohio places are surrounded by countryside, you can definitely find your stars if you go out there. Tons of 'em out there!

By the way, I'm a writer, too. Writing in any form is my passion, but I've always had a love for creative writing. I don't plan on pursuing it as a career (at least not my main one), but it'll always be a hobby. Instead, I plan to be a journalist.

Best of luck to you in finding the right college! I hope you can get the financial aid you need to go where you want. I've heard great things about Oberlin from my friend's sister and it sounds like you already love it, too. A woman I know who writes novels once told me that if you follow your heart it will lead to your best writing. So, no matter where you end up... keep that in mnd. (Best of luck to you with your writing, too!)
