You don't have butter in sticks? Weird.

I like to try new things, though there are very few foods I haven't tried. Of course it depends on the coin and who I'm with, too.

Butter gets measured in grammes, here. Just was wonderin' on how that translated.

I love trying new places. And new recipes at home. Sometimes the man isn't so keen, but I rescued him from a vegetarian, so he tries. He is in fact a more than decent cook himself ( and a better baker, the swine) We have two matching sets of particularly evil Japanese cooking knives.

In fact, the kitchen is a scary place for newcomers. Sharp blades, hot oil, all the pointy little attchments from the food processor, the blowtorch for brulees...

Hey, PR. Next Forsaken thread - Hells' Kitchen?

SpaceAnJL- ok stick of butter translates to about 4 ounces ( there are 4 sticks to a pound) but as you brits have real butter you may want to go a bit shy of that. Same with american cream...yours is 2-3 times as thick so if you are using it in a sauce go a bit light:)

Hmm how picky is picky PR? I mean would you dump someone for a weird laugh or are you picky in the no losers who will sponge off me and then clean out bank account and leave sense?

EDIT- SpaceAnJL do you have a mortar and pestle...if not rush out and get one...it rockes!! It's alot better for herb mixes than the food processor ( not that I would give my food processor up)

Yeah, and if you put a lump of cream cheese in the salsa, that's three food groups and you can survive several years of grad school eating very little else.

MSG - oh boy would I love having a roomie who cooks! I would even do dishes...

maybe I should put it in my match.com thing - "Seeking hot yet geeky man to cook for me and rub my feet" Good lord, then I'd get the foot fetish guys.

PR - I agree that very few people know themselves well enough to write a manual, I'm just pondering whether I want to know myself that well. In the sense that I'm a little nebulous and I like being a mystery. I surprise myself, and that's fun. Or at least, interesting.

Picky? Ok, I would not date someone who:
Smokes
Drinks
Does any other drugs
Is spiritually shut off
Doesn't know how to laugh (weird laugh probably ok)
Was dishonest (assuming I could spot it)
Never lets me have my way
Always lets me have my way (or rather always expects me to make the decisions; little different, actually)
Does not want to jump my bones on a regular basis (eventually)
Thinks I am a freak
Thinks I am overweight
Doesn't appreciate my particular brand of kink (again; eventually)

Yeah, that about covers it.

*edit* that's not a bad little description. I don't mind foot fetish guys; my feet make me very happy on certain fronts

*another edit* Maybe not "Hell's Kitchen" as I don't want anyone screaming "REALITY TV HAS STOLEN US!!!!" But I might try to work blades in there somehow. Have to think about it.

MSG - There is nothing so satisfying as making your own garlic puree in one of those suckers, is there? I also own a mezzaluna for herbs, a large food processor and blender, and a little teeny one especially for chillies, nuts and so on.

I have a pasta machine, that I have actually used. A wok, a griddle, two frying pans, a crepe pan and a blini pan.

I need a bigger kitchen. We won't even go into the book thing.

Ok that's not picky that's just reasonable PR:)

Mal4Prez- appaled at your food, but love you still. WE do have a guest bedroom so drop by any time.

Hmm knowing myself well enough to write a manual..yup I'd say I do, but that may be a biproduct of 2 degrees in psychology. One of the requirements for a masters in psych is that you do a detailed analysis of your own personality and behavior and then attend counseling sessions to verify your analysis. I guess they figure you should know yourself and all before you try to analyse others:)

OOH hey good male female imponderable...why despite all womens lib etc.. is it that the majority of the time the person cooking dinner is the woman??

EDIT- crap it's already 9 am and I have to leave and go to my nail appointment and the gym. I shall return in about 2 1/2 hours to what I am sure will be about 100 posts:)

FMF, cars? Um, not too much about the workings of anything past the 70's, but yes, a little bit. Why?

Deepgirl, there are the "usual" restaurants we go to that have a few select items I like to stick to, but every nnow and then I like trying something I have never had before...and sometimes I even find a new favorite dish!

SpaceAnJL! Brule blowtorch! I used to work for a caterer and the first time they handed me a blowtorch, I thought they had gone mad! Turned out alright, though. I keep one near the kitchen in case I ever decide to make a brule one day...

MSG, I do have a mortar and pestle...haven't had too much chance to use it lately, but I love having one.

PR...for giggles: I fit most of your wish list, except for the first one, somewhat on the second one, and a questionable on the fourth. Not too picky of a list, though.

Yeah, I just want a little equality and respect. I think it's quite reasonable, too.

So... They really do make psychologists get psychoanalized before they can be certified? Huh. Learn something every day. I just notice what makes me react how. And my mentioned best friend is studying psychology and also knows me better than anyone, so she might have some insight when she finally reads the thing. It's all things I could and have explained, but I've come to the conclusion that such things aren't remembered unless you can refer to them in writing.
Hopefully the first potential love interest I show it to will think it's funny and cute, but also take it seriously.

MSG, I have to argue a bit with you on the woman cooking all the time. In the relationships I have had that involved co-habiting, I did a majority of the cooking. Not all of it, mind you, and not all the time, but I did most of the everyday cooking. The SO's would do ocassional "special" meals that all females seem to have (Oooh, good Imponderable...I'll hit it in a minute), and a few of them were very good dessert fixers. I do not mind, as I love cooking. The wife likes to cook, too, but she is also a better baker than main meal maker.

My Imponderable: do any of you have a special meal that you have down to an artform that you may or may not have used to impress a potetntial SO?

-EDIT-
PR, yes, they do make pysch students run a self-analysis on themselves as well as go through analysis by others. I never got to the "others" part seriously, but we did have to self-analyze. You learn a lot about yourself that way.

One way of looking at things is that since males are traditionally not the ones to do the cooking in the family, males aren't taught to cook when they are young. A lot of who we are develops in childhood, so if one isn't brought up with the desire to do an activity from a young age, it would be harder to form a desire to learn how to cook.

See, I think introspection is good. Everyone should practice it, not just psychologists. Course, then psychologists wouldn't have a very good way to make a living...
But really, there are many people who could do with just a little introspection. They don't badly need a therapist, but they get in their own way any stuff. Plus, then you ask them what's bugging them and they say "I don't know." I don't tend to say that. Sometimes I don't wanna tell someone, or I can't put it into words, but I always know.

Morning all. You've been busy since I left yesterday afternoon.

Food: not a big fan of cilantro, either. It's okay in small amounts, but if a salsa looks green and leafy, I don't want to eat it.

I'm not picky, but I do know there are some things I just don't like. I was brought up to not complain about food put before you. You didn't have to eat it all, but you had to at least try it. And just a little shout out to my mom: She, apparently HATES vegetables, which I didn't know until I was 22. She choked them down with a smile on her face, because she knew that if my brother and I saw her not eating/not liking/dissing on the vegies that we wouldn't like them/eat them either. And it worked. Both my brother and I like vegetables.

Most embarrassing moment (not from theater, as I never did that): Went to the beach with a big group of college friends...mostly guys. Water here is usually pretty cold. Cold enough, that without a wetsuit, you end up numb. I'd been in the water for awhile and a wave comes in, knocking my bikini top off. BUT, being so cold and numb, I didn't realize it. Took someone actually telling me before I knew what happened.

And now I can't seem to remember the other topics.

If I ever want to get with the seduction by food, I throw something on the grill and pull out the homebrew mead.

Re introspection: I've been such an introvert my whole life... I guess I have done a lot of figuring myself out, but I'm happy to give it a rest and get to know other people for a change. That's just me.

FMF - I know absolutely nothing about cars. I wish I did. I always feel like such a boob when I go to the mechanic and can't understand what needs to be done.

Sameertia - dancing on a broken foot? Are you crazy?!?

I received my doctorate doped on codein - my back was messed up, I had to stand in the back the whole time because I couldn't bend enough to sit down. It was awful!

Not really an allergy. She lacked an enzyme required for breaking down certain meats. It was something that was fixable by medication, but she had lived without meat for so long she decided not to bother.

Snarky...no, more like a raving, cold-hearted, French ...*ahem* Sorry.
She was able to eat some shellfish, but only in small quantities. She was actually very healthy despite this.

well, that's seems to be the popular opinion, but there are other sources of protein... i do eat fish & poultry occasionaly, milk (soy) and eggs are also on my diet.... but i have seen the ill effects of too much red meat in ones diet.... you can live without it... if you're interested, here are a few facts i pulled up from a couple of nutition sites.....

Animal protein and vegetable protein probably have the same effects on health. It's the protein package that's likely to make a difference. A 6-ounce broiled Porterhouse steak is a great source of complete protein - 38 grams worth. But it also delivers 44 grams of fat, 16 of them saturated. That's almost three-fourths of the recommended daily intake for saturated fat. The same amount of salmon gives you 34 grams of protein and 18 grams of fat, 4 of them saturated. A cup of cooked lentils has 18 grams of protein, but under 1 gram of fat.

Evidence that meat consumption increases breast cancer risk is growing. Two culprits are speculated to be the saturated fat and the type of animal protein in meat. Red meat consumption has conclusively been linked to colon cancer. The conclusive evidence is not as strong for breast cancer. Nonetheless, I would recommend limiting red meat to no more than two servings per week (2-3 ounces per serving or about the size of a deck of cards).

Third culprit: When meat (such as beef, poultry, or fish) is exposed to high temperatures, harmful substances called heterocyclic amines - HCAs - are formed. HCAs are known to be harmful to the pancreas, colon, and prostate. Recently the Iowa Women's Health Study published a report stating that women who consistently ate their red meat cooked well done had almost FIVE times the risk of breast cancer as those who ate their meats rare or medium. (Note: I am NOT recommending you eat your meat cooked rare. It is well known that undercooked meat carries its own health concerns, namely exposure to harmful bacteria.)

Oh My! I have missed a lot! I've been really busy with work experience (fun fun fun) and that essay my Kuh-ooh duh lao bao-jurn of an english teacher gave us. Oh, and also, I havent been able to get on the site, so I watched Dodgeball last night (mmm, Alan Tudyk)
I'll try to catch up with this thread...
Hitting: I have been brought up on the whatjamacallit that violence doesn't solve anything. However, I did do 6 years of ju-jitsu, ao I can defend myself (I was the only girl, and the youngest too, so I learnt fast). I prefer a mental fight, psycological revenge is always the best
Food: My mum is an amazing cook and makes everything from scratch, including bread and ice cream, so I've eaten pretty much everything, though I love Greek cusine the best(rabbit, yum,). I'm not very picky, I won't eat any type of fast or junk food, and I don't eat lots of cakes and sweets, i'm all about the fruit!
The things I can't stand are cucumbers and mint. I hate the smell, the taste, everything. The most unusual things I've eaten are goat, rabbit and octopus. I tried Vindaloo the other week, and my tongue almost died! I can deal with spicy, but not too spicy.
I can eat anything I want, as I take after my dad, who eats tons and is literally like this: |.

p.s glad I missed the lawncare subject.
p.p.s. I have discovered that someone has stolen my name! I am très très annoyed.

Morning NV.

Just want you to know that I was singing a certain song all afternoon. Grrrr....

Introspection: been there, done that...could write a manual, but won't.

PR: that's quite a list. I was surprised by the no alcohol part. I get the no smoking and no drugs, but alcohol? Even a social drinker?

Vegetarians: There are a lot of different ways to define yourself as a vegetarian...as well as a lot of different sources of vital minerals and nutrients. I really don't care if someone is vegie, just don't ask me to be.

I had a vegan friend come to town for a short visit. We went to lunch and I ordered a turkey sandwich, my usual. Six months later I find out she's mad, thinks I ordered the sandwich to spite her and her beliefs and that it was incredible rude for me to do so. Whatever. It had nothing to do with her. We worked it out, but it still makes me wonder to this day.

PR, forgive me for continuing the meat topic, but you may find this amusing.... even though i don't eat red meat, i raise cattle. I've been in the business for about 20 year now and have sold many, many head to be consumed by all the meat lovers out there...
Actually, being in this business wasn't really by choice.... i have always had problems with the moral implications - but I inherited the land and the family business - 4 generations of ranchers - i make the 5th.....
In texas, if you're lucky, you inherit land with gas or oil - land and cattle...not so much.... however, with folks like you, there will always be a demand.... so slap another steak on the grill and eat up.... (not trying to be snark monster... just the facts, mam)

Oh Rugbug! how embarrassing!
FMF: If you don't know much about cars and still lived in the UK, I would tell you to watch Top Gear, all I know about cars I learnt from that show, though you probably don't have it over there.
My most embarrassing moment was sort of on a stage...
When I was 14, we had to do this english project, where we had to make childrens television programmes. ours was called Happy Happy Yay (don't laugh) and since there were 7 of us, we all dressed up as different colours of the rainbow. Anyway, we went to film at this boy (to protect his identity, we'll call him 'Orange' since that was his colour.) Orange's house, where he had a giant paddling pool. The camera started rolling to film the story, and me and my best friend (in pink) stated having an off camera water fight in the paddling pool, which ended up with us both being absolutely soaked. We were there for another 3 hours, he lived in the middle of nowhere, and we had no clothes, so we had to borrow Orange's. Everything, right down to boxers, that is how wet we were.
Anyway, we thought this was hilarious at the time, so we danced up and down in front of the camera, not realising it was filming, boxers on show, singing: "we're wearing --- (Orange's) boxers!!" We didn't find out, until the day of the showing, in front of the whole English class that the computer whizz who had edited it for our group had included this shot in the final film.
Didn't live that down for a while, especially when I had to bring his freshly washed clothes back into school to give them back, and his girlfriend found out - not good

Sorry, this is off topic. NV, I was wondering if you work for a Community Mental Health Organization. My mom has worked at a few as a Infant Mental Health Specialist.

I've always felt hypocritical about this, but...

Ducks are so cute and funny, and I never look at a duck waddling around and think - yum, dinner! But if I find myself in a nice restaurant and there's duck on the menu, guess what I'm ordering? I love duck! All crisp with a light berry sauce...

argh! you post too fast.
yep, I eat bunnies, they are actually delish (thanks FMF) although I have never actually had any pets but fish, so that may account for my no qualms about eating them.
I was bored when I couldn't get on the site, so i searched Smartbutdumbblonde on google. they were all me, as I use this name for everything and have done for years, except one, who was another, very recently named SBDB on her xanga site (wth is that anyway?). Granted, she may not have copied, but it still annoyed me because I purposely picked this name, because a) it is o-so true, and b) it was unique. I love to be unique.
Only dead fish go with the flow.

Poor sheltered boy that I am, I never tried anything more exotic than deer and it's various forms. I DO live in Appalachia USA.

'Kay...the vegetarian in question was a horrible person (one of those attention seeking types) She made him become vegetarian, and he hated it.

Basically, we were all part of a group, and he gave me a lift to tai chi, so I cooked him dinner, and I made spaghetti bolognese. ( My bad ) The real deal - homemade garlic puree, pancetta, a decent red wine and proper ground steak. Oh, and the homegrown tomato passata.

Resistance is futile.

I like rabbits. I also like lambs. ( I have a friend who tells me that the way I say that is deeply creepyfying - Hannibal Lector meets the Two Fat Ladies.)

Big fan of duck, and sort of a fan of rabbit. I am not saying I go looking for them, but if it's an offering, I will ocassionally try the dish. NVG, the sage and wild onion rabbit sounds tasty! Ok, only 3o minutes to lunch...I'll be alright...

duck is good.
I came back from greece last year and went to see my cousins, and the conversation turned to what we had eaten on holiday. I said "I had kid - baby goat and it was really nice"
and my cousin said: "Ugh, you're horrible! thats almost as bad as eating veal!"
me: "um, I had that, too..."

Damn you Fox! Damn you to Hades!!

Where you is?

I love me some wilted lettuce! Ever had it? My dad lived in a holler in WVa and they ate ANYTHING - possum, nutria, snake - you name it great grandma would cook it.

LOL Smart - When we lived in Athens (i was little) our neighbor would watch us in the mornings. I spent many a day over there with their YaYa. One morning I came in the kitchen and there was a lamb, its mother had died giving birth so they were hand rearing it. I would feed that baby and it was my best friend. Around Easter I had to go home as my grandpa was sick. When I got back the lamb was gone. A little while later they gave me a sheep skin as a leaving present and my son told tales of the great food he had had while I was away. I was 21 before I realized that the skin and the dinner he had was MY LAMB! I am so gullible! LOL!

Oh dear, you are going to make me rant now, aren't you.
Disclaimer; nothing against you lovely people who do drink. Please try to understand this is an important issue to me but that I try not to hold it against people. Unless I'm going to be seriously involved with them in some way.

YES, even a social drinker! I HATE alcohol! I hate it! I hate all forms of intoxicating substance and do not want to be around them!
Alcohol specifically, smells gross, tastes gross, and alters the personality. I want to know the person, not the drunk.
The first time I was around someone who was really buzzed, it was my then step-brother. I got along very well with him. He was a delightful, fun gay boy. I loved being around him. Then, I think it was new years, he drank a bit and got all tipsy. He was a very happy drunk, but he FREAKED ME OUT. I looked at him and just kept thinking "This is not you. Where did you go? Stop that!" His eyes were glazed and just... No, it wasn't him, it was very wrong. If I hadn't already sworn off alcohol, that would have been the day.
You say you get no drugs. Well, it is one. And it's a worse drug than most, despite how socially acceptable it is.
I get SO ANNOYED at people who just assume I drink. So I'm 21 and part Irish. I don't drink and I never will and I don't want to be with someone who does. For one thing, I find it personally repulsive. For another thing, it hurts me very badly to see someone I care about do something that is potentially very bad for them. Alcohol is a poison. It kills people. On a regular basis; directly or indirectly.
Don't quote studies about the benifits at me, either. I know about it; actually the wine thing is really more about the red grapes than the alcohol, and red grapes do not pickle the liver slowly or poison anybody unless they are fermented!
*huff huff huff wheeze huff snarl*
The body is the most precious thing we have control over. It truly is a temple. We should take care of it.

Ok, rant over. Very sorry if I was offensive.

*edit* seem to have missed a lot while ranting. Duck is tasty. So is ostrich. Anyone had ostrich? De-lish! I haven't tried rabbit. Tried lamb once; thought it was a bit fatty.
Dayve, do you raise natural cattle, then? Yum!

I totally agree, PR, alcohol sucks. I have seen so many of my friends get so drunk that they pass out. had to be carried home, and had no idea what had happened the night before - anything could have happened to her. I swore that would never be me.
Also, no matter how many times I get offered, I will always refuse cigarettes and drugs too. This comes from partly that they destroy your body and I don't understand why anyone would want to do that to themselves, and also because of someone who used to be a very close friend of mine, before he climbed onto the drug spiral.

edit: aw, FMF, that must have been heartbreaking!
