Fans of the canceled Everwood series have joined together and raised over $11,000 to have a ferris wheel (somehow it is connected with an episode from the show) in a parking lot next to the TV shows headquarters to show their appreciation to the show and also as a PR event to get the last few seasons released on DVD.
http://www.everwoodmusic.com/forum/everwood1311-0.html

Also, fans of Veronica Mars hired a plane to fly over their executives headquarters with a banner saying "Renew Veronica Mars" http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds33034.html

Would something like this make sense to try at Sci-Fi or Fox for Firefly/Serenity?

Ideas:

1. We move the Ariel Ambulance to one of the Sci-Fi headquarters and throw a big old shindig.
2. We could create a really huge "Mudder" statue o f Jayne in a parking lot also...

Those were just some fun thoughts. Any others? IS this a good idea for PR, or will it just make the "high ups" angry?

Well, there was the Ariel Ambulance rescue...
Did that ever get written up at all? Covered by news? Anything?

Ah, well you can be forgiven, then.
It was huge up here for awhile. It should still be in the news archives somewhere. It should be bumped up again so everyone knows, I guess.

I like this idea. Set it up in front of Fox's main offices. . .

I have this image of a huge mudder Jayne statue outside the building, glaring at all the executives as they drive past ... it gives me a happy.

Maybe we could make a giant Joss mudder statue?

Wow - just readin' that made me feel that if there's this much support for Everwood (which I just realised I've seen a couple of episodes of) then how HUGE an impact can Browncoats have??? I also liked the idea of purchasing 100copies of Veronica Mars and donating them to libraries as a way of bringing attention to the DVD sales potential for them... (and I love Veronica Mars too - though not as much as I love Firefly) Maybe we could organise a 'virtual vigil' of 'wobbly headed geisha dolls' to hold a protest somewhere??? That way Browncoats all over the world could sponsor a doll to be there at the protest/vigil... or we could send braowncoats to strategic people who might be able to get the show up and running again? Maybe we could get some advise from Mutant Enemy & Joss's people on who we could target as the most important group?

Hey - what about a 'witch burning' which the BDHs and assorted browncoats turn up at to stop?? Might make good press fodder?? Great photo op?

I am so going to bed now... goodnight!! Magda x x

I LOVE THE WOBBLY HEAD DOLLS IDEA!!!!!! We need to do that. The Wobbly Head Geisha Doll Caper...

Okay, lets plan...what would it look like?

1. We could send thousands of geisha dolls to Fox, Sci-Fi, etc.
2. We could fill a parking lot full of them and then show Firefly on a big screen and make them all watch.

Any other ideas?

Finally, can we find a charity that sells Geisha wobbly headed dolls? That would make it even better...Maybe we can give them all away as toys to children in poverty.

Ha! That would be great! Especially since "Trash" didn't air on Fox! (No wasting our time with Fox, though.)
Maybe would could set up something at Universal, just fill a parking lot with dolls! Dolls holding little signs that say "Serenity Now"!

You mentioned seeing Everwood, so of course I can't resist asking... what did you think of it?

Anyway, not my actual point...

YES! We should definitely think of something to do!

So far, our Ferris wheel has not gotten our show back and I don't expect it to, but that's only because we're targeting The CW -- the channel that cancelled our show -- and they just don't seem to care. I believe Everwood's only shot is with another network, one that might actually appreciate us. However, getting our season DVDs from the WB... that I have full faith in and I hope the wheel helps us accomplish it!

But, again, I'm losing my point. What I'm trying to say is that I definitely think it would be brilliant if we Browncoats did something similar and set it out front of the most important target group (the most likely to actually revive the show), whoever that might be. As Magdalena said, we would need to find out who that is.

A tip, though, from observing the Save Everwood campaign... if we want to do this, what we will really need is somebody or a small group of somebodies willing to take charge and make this happen. It needs to be someone who is trustworthy and who is capable of being a leader. You also need a bunch of people who believe in it (the donators, the promoters, the supporters, etc.) Without the above, it can be difficult to pull off.

I can promise this much: While I had no funds to support the Ferris wheel and I have no funds to support this effort... I will gladly do whatever I can otherwise. I'm more than ready and willing to pick up a pen/pencil again (and a keyboard) and starting writing letters, e-mails, and other efforts to promote anything that is done.

Yes. Why not a Mudder statue of all our BDH, preferably with two, ginormous Joss statues holding a banner with a billion and a half signatures for browncoats. Probable use of the Firefly "fan powered" quote or somethings similar.

Put Wash and Book in the slight foreground, in the middle. Because they're dead and we want to honor them. But put Mal in the middle of them. More foreground for him.

I like Fizzix's ideas. I don't know how we would pull off a statue (any thoughts??), but if that's what everyone wanted... we should definitely honor our dead & our Captain. And I really like the banner of fan signatures.

YAY! LIKED IDEAS!

Well, I figured, Big DAMN BDH's are a little more potent. So, life size, minus Joss, who's taller, on both sides, and facing inwards. Holding the banner. On which we have fan signatures, and a possibility of a cast/crew picture suspended underneath... (to the side, if it's a problem) signed by Cast, Joss, Crew... any production staff at all.

Rally around the BDHs... organized Firefly showings...

Oh, I should let you know. I have ideas because I can't do a thing to help but put up ideas. Blame the purplebellies of a family I have.

Hi Lissa - I thought Everwood was nice - it was on on a Saturday afternoon here in Australia and my housemate and I used to watch it while we worked on our scrapbook projects in front of the TV. She is a bigger fan than I am - but we both thought it was well done. Sorry but it didn't inspire the same passion in me that Firefly does, but I can certainly see the apeal. In a world where we seem to be living in less community-orientated societies it's good to fill the need with a good programme with characters that are likeable and give you a sense of belonging. I used to love Picket Fences and St Elsewhere all those years ago too... similar thing I think

Glad you liked the Virtual Wobbly Headed Geisha Protest Vigil guys - I loved the suggestion that they all be watching Firefly on the big screen! I have thought more about it and although I cannot find a wholesale 'woobly-headed-geisha-doll-supplier' with a quick google search I think there is scope to buy some kind of representative dolls through a 'Fair Trade organiseation' and then Browncoats all over the world could send messages, put their names to the dolls and the dolls could hold little signs with (for example) "You can't take the sky from me - Magdalena, Melbourne, Australia"

I love the idea of a sea of dolls filling a park or car-park as far as the eye can see and each one holding a miniture plakcard with a personl message and the name and location of a real browncoat!

Then we definitely give the dolls to charities accross the country ... and one to each BDH too!

Sorry I'm in New Melbourne or I'd volunteer to co-ordinate it!

Then again - it might happen a lot quicker if I am not involved...

Love you all - & remember - they can't take the sky from us!! - Magdalena x x x

Okay, I think that I'm not the only one realizing that my mudder statue idea is a little out of preportion. We'd have to make a framework for each, out of something that mud sticks to. And... unless we made them there -- a shiny activity, now thtat I'm thinking about it -- there's a chance of breaking in transportation. It would make a bigger publicity thing if we did this there, as in making them there.

"One day, a bunch of mud, and some coats that didn't start the day as brown. All shall be Browncoated by the end of the day as the Browncoats make their Big Damn Heroes out of mud in the Fox parking lot."

I can imagine seeing that. That could be a premotional bit in newspapers. To let people know it's gonna happen.
