can agree with Phoenixrose and Jamethedark as regards having had dreams involving pain and still feeling said pain when you wake up, think my most unpleasant dream invovlved getting shot in the face (then watching myself getting operated on) and when i woke up i was in agony...

incidentally, i don't often dream about getting shot or mutilated, it was several years ago, just, stuck in my mind like. far gone i is, but not that far gone

as for recurring dreams, when i was little i used to have one involving running through poppy fields to get away from giants, along with any number of people who'd been picking the poppies at the time.

but on the whole i rarely remember my dreams, just, when i do, i tend to remember them in widdescreen and for years to come.

anyways i'm sure i could've thought of something more insightful to do then just recount some of my own dreams, but, i've only just woken up.

Morning, all!
I come bearing advice...do not eat a lot of BBQ foodstuffs outside in Alabama in the middle of summer. That's just begging for a stomach problem. I'm back, and I'm better. I missed y'all yesterday!

SimonWho, the worst way I can think of to break up with someone has to be via email. That means you don't even care enough to end the relationship face-to-face.

Along the illness lines, I have another Imponderable that may have been touched on in the past: How do you deal with sickness? Do you like to be taken care of, or are you the "leave me alone, I'm fine" type?

Didn't Matt Damon break up with Minnie Driver on the Oprah Winfrey Show? Said something about them not being together anymore and she was like, "huh?"

And Ben Lee (musician) has a song about how he accidentally broke up with someone while doing a radio show (like a morning talk show). Oops.

that would suck

I do have dreams with celebrities, although not usually full on sex dreams. There is usually a mix of people I know and famous folk. Had one real strange one not long ago involving the aforementioned Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and myself in a VW Bus flying through the skies of Seattle. Ben and I wanted to be alone () and Matt just wouldn't give us space .

Sickness: you could all probably guess by now, but I'm a 'deal with it on my own' type. The only person I really let take care of me is my mom. I'm not good at being vulnerable, so....

I'm the "fetch and carry" type. Curled up in bed, I like company, but don't hover and if I ask for something, please get it for me. If I'm sleeping, leave me alone!

T, I'm glad you're better. That sort of illness is NEVER fun and can be exhausting.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Hi all - just spent 1/2 an houtr reading this thread - now lets get into it myself!

Phoenix Rose & James the Dark - yes, I too have had pain-filled dreams - actually woke me up once but quickly faded - I think I fell down a cliff or was it the reoccuring car crash dream in my teens - lots of randomly famous and non-famous people appreared in that one, but the two people in the front died and the three in the back (including me) always got out with relatively minor injuries...

Also - both prophetic and potentially previous-life dreams. I honestly don't know whether I believe in previous lives - being a Christian it doesn't seem possible, and yet, maybe God returns us for another time round? I will say that I have a clear memory that I am with my Mum, Dad & two brothers, running down a slope under palm trees to a beach, in Queensland - only thing is I have never had brothers, just two sisters and until a coulple of years ago I hadn't been to Queensland or anywhere even remotely tropical. Judging by the clothes it's probably late 50s or early 60s but I was born in 1967... puzzlin' - aint it?

Nightmares include trying to rescue my sister who I am not close to from impending disaster - we're on the Titanic and I have to get her off before it sinks or we're in the shadow of the Twin Towers and I know they will collapse soon... that sort of thing! Another involves running for my life, knowing that if I relax for an instant the 'person' after me will catch and kill me...

Premonitions are usually waking ones in various forms - I told my sister that she would have a baby girl on 15th February, 1995 at 4pm two months beore Natasha was born at 3.50pm that date!! I also said something to 2 friends and my mother 3 days before the Lockerbie PanAm Plane disaster in 1988, it didn't make sense until the crash happened and then we all freaked... also there was the time I had this name stuck in my head all day - I even said it out loud whilst I was ironing - the name was Osama BinLaden and it was 11th September here in Australia - I mentioned it to my best friend in frustration while we were watching the West Wing that night - before it was over (episode of WW) we got a newsflash that a plane had hit one of the twin towers...

There're others... I think 13th November 2007 will be a significant date in my life...???

Yeah - I also dream about not being able to keep my footing and almost plumeting over the edge of tall buildings - and open plan toilets where I absolutely have to go, but can't get the place to myself long enough to do so in private... the usual weird stuff!

Also when I can fly it's down to concentration and I only get about 1 metre off the ground!!

Hmmmmm something to ponder - Magdalena x x x

(EDIT) P.S. Illness - As long as it doesn't disturb me I like someone who brings me cool drinks or facewashers and asks if I'm OK occassionally - but generally I like to suffer by myself...

Whitefall: I hope your eye is feeling better! *sends healing vibes* I suffer from hayfever, and when my eyes start itching, everybody yels at me: "DON'T SCRATCH!!" and I'm thinking: how can you say that when you don't know! I really want to pur itching powder in their eyes and tie their hands behind their backs, and see how they react.
Where abouts in Ireland are you?

Dreams: I love dreaming, my dreams are so much more exciting than real life, especially since i always have very realistic, very weird ones, but never nighmares. A lot of my dreams include trying to run away from something, but my legs won't go fast enough, or trying to get away from something, but no matter how hard I try to hit them, my attempts are useless.
Celebrity dreams:I only dream about the one celebrity. I had a nice one last night about just sitting on a sofa, watching tv and cuddling up to a certain male BDH (no prizes for guessing who!), and I really liked that because I hardly ever get hugged by anyone outside my family (except if it the 21st of a month), but I love to be hugged.
I do rememer my dreams, but only as soon as I wake up, until by the time I get to school, I can only remember the essence of it, which is annoying.

Illness: I like pampering in moderation, someone to light the fire, make my meals and play scrabbl with me when I'm ill, but I can't be doing with people hovering around all the time.
Glad you're better, Tristan!

Does anyone here sleepwalk?
I never have, but I talk in my sleep a lot! although one night, I went to bed with my hair in a ponytail, and woke in the morning with it in plaited pigtails, with no memory of changing it in the night.
My sister sleepwalks. This one time, she tried to do a forwrds roll down the stairs in her sleep, though luckily my mum stopped her just in time.

Thank you, SBDB!
Sleepwalk, no, sleeptalk, yes. And sometimes not in English, either, so the wife tells me. She does say I ocassionally make sense, and there are times when she can engage me in small talk for a brief period. Kinda weirds me out to think that part of my brain is trying to communicate with the outside world whilst the rest of me is out cold.

Hey Tristan! Will all that tumbling out of me in my last post I forgot to say I'm really glad you're feeling better!

I have been known to do both sleep-walkin' and -talkin' - When I was younger I found myself in my sister's bed one morning - my sister wasn't happy as she was there too... Also my Mum and Dad used to enjoy reenacting my sleepwalking for anyone who came over. Apparently I like to look out the window - even with the curtains drawn. One night one of my sisters heard me having a 'sleep conversation' with my other sister - we were both known to talk in our sleep and were sharing a room. TJ said it was like listening to us talk after someone had tranquilised us! Big pauses and slow, short words used!

Now - I am going to bed to let my back heal some more! Deoesn't mean I won't be back though - I'm not sleeping very well...

Well... it is 2.45am so I guess you might know that...

Tristan, glad you're feeling better.

Food poisoning is awful as is hurling. Last time I was sick, I had to leave work mid-day. I was feeling so awful the I walked into the CEO's office (my boss) and asked to leave early and just started crying. I had spent so much time keeping it together while feeling so bad, the when I finally admitted to feeling horrible, I was a basket case. Went home and promptly tossed my cookies for the next 12 hours. It was all the fault of my neighbor's two year old. He had a B-day party and was ill. Within two days about 6 of us that were there were violently ill.

Back to dreams: Does anyone have sex dreams about someone you WOULD NEVER even touch, let alone sleep with? And then you see the person the next day and it's like "Eek?" Hate that. Why can't my subconscious cooperate and make it always be Brad Pitt (or Ewan MacGregor) in those types of dreams?

lol, very nice, dayve.
never fear, tristan, you've not missed anything.
the 21st of every month is "Give a Doug A Hug" day. People named Doug must go round hugging random people, and everyone else must find people named Doug to Hug. It was created by a friend of mine, named Doug, and is usually the only day when I get hugged by someone who is not family.
Me and my 3 best friend got him a t-shirt with it on, as we are trying to make it national, and maybe one day even international. It is all about spreading the love.
google it.

Ok, I'm feeling better, I'm strung out on drops! (the legal kind) Nah, tis all getting better really, though my face doesnt look to go for it.

Hmmm... worst way to end a relationship... i dunno. I'd hate to be broken up by email, but I think the absolute worst way would be complete silence. Ie, move away and change your phone number, etc. That'd be just downright wrongness.

SBDB, i'm up by Belfast. In "the North". And i've discovered once again how cool my uncle's wife is. She's like a combination of martha stewart and an irish kaylee. She's gung ho about housekeepin n mothering, while she has a job, but she's so cheerful and smiley about everything, it's really refreshing.

Glad y'all are feeling better. Strange, I thought the board might have become contagious.

So I took my nephew for a Well Kids checkup at the clinic this morning. We waited for thirty minutes in an examination room for the doctor. At nearly three years old he was fairly well behaved. At one point he became board and started asking questions. Mind you the exam. room they put us in must have been the one they use for womens health. He's asking to look at all the pamphlets and what the posters are. So I begin to explain the female anatomy and breast examinations and Kegel Exercizes. Okay, so I didn't. Luckily there was a childrens book about Raven bringing the light to the world to distract him.
No real questions to ask, just thought I'd share.
God, I can't wait until he turns into a teenager. Just sit with him in that room and explain the ins and outs.

SERYN

now that there is the reason we love having NVG around. You're a true marvel, you know that NVG? I think you need to sell your services as a 'don't get sad - get mad then move on!' counsellor. you could make a mint.

My sister has decided that she's not going to fob my niece off with stork tails or whatever. So if she asks questions, we're to answer them honestly.

Thank you. For that one. Darling sister.

Ok, wierd dream for you (btw, i don't sleep walk or talk. apparently i make little sighing/whimpering noises and thats it) but my mum told me about her one episode of sleep whatevering - she was at her boyfriends place, which was a one level thing with the badroon next to the front door, and after a night of watching classic horros, she went to bed first. After being asleep for a while, she sat up, looking straight out of the door, still sound asleep, and saw Frankenstiens monster walking past the door of the bedroom.
She let out this ear splitting sream, then lay down and went back to sleep, while her boyfrined, who had been walking past the door at that moment, almost died of heart failure on the carpet.

Yes, they are still together, amazingly.

Thinking about it today, i realised that i had had one naughty dream. and it was a celeb. of sorts, but only the face, the personality was someone i new - so i live in repressed denial even in my dreams. joy.

Ilness - this is where you all learn what a total pain in the ass i am to live with - i have no routine whatsoever, there is no way of predicting what i'll want from one moment to the next - i don't even have a set amount of sugar in my tea, depending on how the mood takes me, i'll have one or half or none or two, and every aspect of my life is like that - i don't know what i'll want until i get there.

so looking after me is a minefield, some times i want to be left alone because i'm ashamed of the way i'm acting, others times i want some one to sit with my head resting in in their lap and to play with my hair, sometimes i feel that crappy that i can't bear to be looked at, sometimes i just want someone present in the room. I generally like things like getting me cups of tea or offering to go fetch more cough medicine, but the one thing that always gets healthier when i'm ill is mmy temper - i don't do well with being mollycoddled or babied.

So basically, life with me is just one big tightrope act, and even being a mind reader doesn't help.

It just a good thing that i'm so damn wonderful, or i'd never get a date.

ah, hang on...

And break ups. I've had my fair share of bad ones - i've been broken up with twice in front of friends. Thats always such a positive experience [ /sarcasm] But I had a friend once who was dumped by text message.

thats right, two badly spelled sentences and a smily face to tell her that six months of her life had been a gigantic waste of time.
Of course, this was in 6th form, so i still felt childish enough to suggest that two of my very large, muscular and hairy male friends corner him the next time they saw him and kick him in the nads.
Not sure if it ever happened.

Ah well.

Moral of this story is.... don't date me i'm a freak. No! no, it was, 'i love my friends, don't mess with them'. that's it.

Copilot sweety, ignore the jerk, he's a definite BSC (bloody stupid c**t) and not even worth spitting on.

Heh, well I don't think there's much left of FSO for the rest of us to attack, now that NV has finished with him.

Copilot, that sort of thing really is only meant to hurt. It's natural to feel hurt by it, but don't let his opinions or rudeness run your life.

Hmm, there does seem to be some sort of illness wave going around. My MIL is really sick (spinal meningitis, she's had surgery and is in the ICU now, hubby is flying out to see her soon), I'm havin a crappy health day (just the normal chronic stuff for me though), and people seem under the weather here.

I do like to be coddled a bit when I'm sick with the flu, and I'll never turn down a good rub of my sore joints and muscles, but other than that, I generally fine on my own. I don't really have a problem with people getting too close or too touchy though, but hubby is like that. I have to bite back all my mothering instincts, heh. When I get the flu, I tend to get really depressed, because any time I run a fever, my immune system ups its attacks on everything else, which means four to six months of elevated pain. So I'll be pukey, running a fever, and crying about getting sick again. Not such a pretty picture.

Mmm, yeah, that was a fairly depressing segment on health. Crap.

Ok, reading your post cheered me up a bit Seryn. Though it's looking like I'll need another round of meds in just a few here, and that's kinda pissing me off... Tightrope act indeed.

Quote:

Eh, it's not all that bad, Seryn. That's how I was raised. My mom was in nursing school when I was little, so she had no trouble just telling me the facts. I have five younger siblings, and with each pregnancy Mom would pull out this little "what does our baby look like now?" booklet, that talked about the development milestones at each week. So I knew about sperm and egg and all that early on. I think I was five or six when I asked Mom how the sperm got to the egg -- I had this vision of something like a line of ants, marching across the bedsheets while my parents slept. I remember very clearly that she made a face and told me. I thought it was gross. I think my exact words were "but he pees with that!"

Oh, and sleeptalking! I don't sleepwalk, but I talked in my sleep when I was younger (including an embarrassing incident at summer camp), but apparently now all I do is laugh. Hubby says he'll wake up cuz I'm laughing at him in the middle of the night.

Bah, gotta wait another 15 minutes before I can take more meds.

Seryn- I think parents should be more open and truthful with their children while they are young. Parents would be less inclined to fabricate or alter the truth as the little ones grow. Besides, attitude reflects leadership. At somepoint litle white lies become overcirculated and get dirty.

Sllepover. My brother and cousin were ten. Both asleep, talking to eachother. Funniest crap ever!

Hmmmm, well I would have to go with not speaking to them for about a week, then telling them you're not sure it's "working out" then hanging up on them and writing them an e-mail that says something along the lines of "I don't think we should pursue each other romantically right now, you smother and stifle my creativity and we have nothing in common." Then top it off later with a half-assed apology, also over e-mail, saying that you would like to be forgiven but don't actually want to put any work into it.
Not that I'm bitter.

*ahem* Moving on...
When I am ill, I want to be pampered as much as possible. Bring me blankets and tea and soup (assuming I can eat) and stroke my forehead and give me lots of vitamins so I can lounge around and get better. A lot of times, I've had to do that myself. I'd love it if someone would get me everything I needed so I wouldn't have to move too much. Ickiness is worse when you move. And lots of sleep is good.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who had a dream like that! Wild.
I have never sleepwalked that I know of, though my mom says once I turned on my bedside light in my sleep, said something, and turned it off again. I do talk in my sleep a lot (again, so I hear) and am at times a very restless sleeper.
I don't think there's anything wrong with telling kids "the facts". As CK said, it's more likely to gross them out than make them curious as to what it's like, and that way they won't be confused later in life. I remember knowing that a stork was a symbol for having a baby, but I always knew that a baby wasn't brought but born out of the mommy. I found out later how it worked. And found out even later how much fun it was...
Lord and Lady I need a date!
I'm glad most of our dear 'coats are feeling better, and hope the rest are feeling better soon.

Urgh, when I'm sick, what I want is a convaluted jungle. I don't want people to ignore me, but eventually I don't want them to keep asking me if I'm ok. Makes no sense really.

P.S. This time, I went and stole your huggle emote! A monster be I!

I'm feeling vaguely crappy at the moment, and I just need to be left alone with the FF'Verse and a deal of chocolate. (Oooh, chocolate-coated Jayne...) I'm definitely a hibernator, but I like to be checked up on occasionally, if only so that I can snap feebly and wave my arms for tea and sympathy.

Saw the new Pirates movie! Weeee! At the whole 'shiny' conversation, my husband started sniggering. He has become One of Us, no matter how he denies it. "Hello, beastie..."

I guess I'm lucky, come to think of it, that I don't often get sick during the school year... cause when I do, me go to school with a fever. Damn those inane makeup work policies.

The last real fever I had was several years ago. Havent really had to sleep anything off much.

SERYN

oh don't get me wrong, i'm not advocating lying to my niece - i've never once told her lies (oh yes, mummy and daddy write a letter and the nice stork brings us a baby) but i'm also not paticularly fond of the way my sister tells it (and the last time, was when we were all trying to eat dinner) because, quite frankly, most of the time I don't want to hear the details.

I think my niece has cottoned onto it as well, the last question she asked me was 'how can i get a baby brother?' and the reply she got was something along the lines of 'you'd have to find someone with many many brothers and no sisters and lock him in a room with your mother for a month or so...'

see now why I shouldn't be raising children?

I have had those dreams of looking for a tilet and some privacy - not in open plan toilets, cause it never entered my mind that something so unspeakably horrid existed after 1587, but i've had dreams where i've been trying to go and people kept bursting in on me - i remember it got to the point where i was pushing agaisnt the cubicle door and screaming at them to f off.
Usually i put them down to needing to go to the bathroom IRL and feeling like I need some alone time.

*hugs* for PR. Men are s**ts. (present company excepted, of course)

ok, to reverse the question, whats the worst way you've ever dumped someone?

mine was the last ex - no one knew we were going out until the day we broke up for good and i kicked him in the middle of my workplace, then told every woman in the room what a total b*****D he was and not to touch him with a barge pole.

Now, This one had to be bought out and shown to the world.
Everybody - say thank you Arcadia.

Let's not be exceptin' people... that'd be rude.

Can't say I've ever been together enough with anyone to be able to break up with them. Foiled again.

Well, ok, they weren't actually open plan toilets, but they have no locks. So yeah, people barging in. I don't end up screaming at them, though, I just kinda go "Oh look, people! I guess the pee will have to wait." See, I don't want alone time; I have so very much of that I think I'm going mad.
Thanks Whitefall! You can steal my hug emote if you want; especially if you're going to apply it to me!
I have only broken up with one person ever. We had been having some major issues (for those of you with great memories, this is the one who bruised my neck with his teeth) and we had been trying to work through them but it wasn't working. He lived out of town (why do I date outside my town so much??? *pulls hair*) and I had made up my mind that next time I saw him I would break it off. Well, he called and I tried to act sorta normal and we talked a few things over and kinda small-talked, then his phone was dying and he said "Okay, well I'll let you go then. But I want to know how you're really feeling about us." and I told him I really didn't have time to talk about that. So he called me hours later (at one or two in the morning) when his phone had some juice again and basically demanded that I explain myself. So I did. The end.
I tried to be as nice as possible about it, told him exactly what was bothering me and why I thought it wouldn't work out. He never forgave me.
ARG! Stupid boys.

Here's one I made for my mom when a critic ripped her to shreds:

She's a novelist. *is very proud*
Mostly reviews of her are good, but some people seem to feel the need to be nasty for the sake of being nasty. Or they don't get what she's talking about, which is my theory.

What type of novels does she write PR? It would be cool to check it out (I'm a big reader).

TRISTAN

Morning, all!
'Tis Friday, which means I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend of sewing and yardwork.

The worst way I broke up with someone? That would probably have to be the ex-wife. She said "Maybe we should get a divorce", I said "Ok", and after work, went and saw a lawyer. When I got home, I told her she could go by the lawyer's the next day and sign the divorce decree. I don't think she thought I was going to do it.

Whitefall, when you do start dating, you can use the advice on this board on how to break up...but in a nice way!

Is that kind of like shooting someone politely?

She has three fantasy novels out currently; usually in "teen" or "young adult" sections of stores (I have no idea how she got that classification; maybe because she doesn't swear much and has no graphic sex) They are called "The Seer and the Sword" "The Healer's Keep" (my personal favorite) and "The Light of the Oracle" under the author Victoria Hanley.
Now everyone buy a copy!
