Hi all, it's been a while and I've probably been forgotten.

Anyways, I was watching Buffy last night and I was wondering, if Firefly had gone on as long as Buffy, would we get a musical episode like Once More, With Feeling? Then I got to thinking. It could be in the later seasons, five maybe six, and it could open with the crew sitting around the dinner table reminiscing about the old times. Then different events could be played out in flashback, only as a musical. It would be a bit of fun that they could really enjoy themselves making, it would give the fans something to laugh about and they could resurrect Book and Wash for some of the flashbacks. It would be great.

Oh, that would make the season if it were to happen. The first and only Buffy episode I saw from start to finish was Once More, and I thought it was so damn clever. Rushed out and bought the soundtrack too. Fanboy to a show I haven't even watched...

Here's hoping!

I posed the same question about a year ago, but It's nice to see that it's not just me who thinks a Firefly musical would work!

in answer to your question, I strongly believe a musical WOULD have worked, perhaps the BDH's went to a planet where the primary form of communication was song and dance. Cheesy I know, but it would have been nice!

I love the idea - lets run with it - another reaver-ish song (in the style of Patsy Cline)
"I'll be raping you - always
My teeth soon will tear - your face
When the death I've planned, needs a helping hand, I'll sew back your hand - to my waist... my waist..."

Or the old swing classic:
"You've got me... ripping off skin.....
You've got me... eating your heart away...
The bits that I haven't ripped yet, will do for my tea today... mmmmmmm
You've got me.... ripping off skin"

had to start somewhere... can't sleep and those pain meds made me do it... Magda x x x

No, no, no, no, NO!

(Well, maybe as a bonus episode on the season's DVD.)

Does NOT fit Firefly.

well it IS kind of a Space Opera...
but it might be harder to suspend disbelief and have everyone break into song on Firefly...
on Buffy you had the ready made excuse that it's a 'spell'
LOL

I hope Joss does write more musicals, because I think that OMWF is awesome.

That's why they all trip on stuff... don't you see? None of them are sure it's real and the whole episode will be disjointed and weird with them singing to each other - dead people could reapear and when it's all over and they've got splitting headaches and feelin' nausious nobody will mention anything ... except maybe Jayne who probably slept through the whole thing anyway - or had his very own fantasy happen in his very own bunk.... we won't have to watch that then.... will we

And Mal and Inara could totally 'do it' ... and then think they dreamt it - won't change the status quo...!!

These pain meds are affecting my moral character... Magda x x

A la My Fair Lady...

Inara:
"I could have gone... all night
I could have gone... all night
And still have begged for more....

I could have made you sing.... and done a thousand things... I've never done before...

You really know, you made it so... amazing
I didn't think companions needed more.......

I only know.... when Mal.... said 'how about it gal?' I could have gone, gone, gone all night!"

Mal:
"I have often gone... to her shuttle before...
but the bedclothes always stayed nicely unruffled before...
All at once am I... in between her thighs... in the shuttle that's rented from me...."

Come on people - you can do it after my feeble attempt!! More - we want more!

i'm not seeing it.... i mean, Jayne break into gorram song and dance.... that would ruin his image (ok, well, maybe if he has been drinking too much mudders milk... maybe...)

i'll stick with the Buffy number - that was great

or just the one and only song I have ever heard a BDH sing in Firefly -

"Jayne - the man they call me!"

And little man little Inara wants you

I wonder what Jayne would sing? I beleave he could pull it off if the song was to his character.

Technically we've already heard Jayne sing. ;P

If anything, it would all have to be in River's mind. Even then it's a stretch.

No thanks.

I don't think it could work... Buffy was succesful because it was ALWAYS completely 'out there' and surreal, so adding the musical aspect worked with the style. Firefly, on the other hand, is wonderful because it's so realistic- you believe it could actually be you, just in the future. And sadly enough, real life is not a musical.

Which was why I suggested an episode of flashbacks. No matter how good a memory you've got, details are always gonna be fuzzy. Okay, so maybe a musical memory is stretching it.

I never saw OMWF (NOT a fan) so I can't comment on that but I just can't see it happening with the crew. Especially Jayne and Zoe. (especially Zoe. Don't see her breaking out into song considering) So no, I wouldn't want to see it. I think I'd lose a little respect for my BDH. Ok, a LOT of respect. River though, well she'll break into anything.

However thanks to another thread I read (I think the Urban Myth thread) someone mentioned Grease and NOW all I can see is them doing Grease in space.

Mal/Tony, Wash/Keniki/, Zoe/Rizzo, Inarah/Sandy, Jayne and Simon 2 of the Thunderbirds (take your pick), Kaylee/Frenchi, River/(damn I can't remember her name and I'm a longtime fan. The brunnette in pigtails) and Book, he'd be out of place, maybe he can sing that song to Frenchie in the Soda shop, or be the female mechanic teacher (although male of course). Saff could be the other Pink Lady (damn my memory). Crow can be the guy Tony races for pink slips. Or purple slips. Or the cop in the Message can be. Tracy can be the other Thunderbird. It can all take place in and around a moon or planet that has a space station.... there could be another Shindig that Mal/Tony takes Inarah/Sandy, and Nandi could be the girl who grabs Mal/Tony and starts dancing with him making Inarah/Sandy leave...... ARRRGGGH! See what I mean? I can't stop. And it's all there in my mind. Gorramit thanks alot whoever put that in my head.

So maybe I CAN see them doing it. But it'll have to be total parody or it won't work.

"Your the one that I want." Gorrammit!

Yay... The girl in pigtails is Jan! Yes - it's be worth it just to see River in cute bunched up pigtails!

I thought you were all startin' to take this way too seriously

I don't really think that Joss would do it in a million years - but it's fun to fantasise!

Anyway - it's a hypothetical topic about a hypothetical episode of a hypothetical series which hypothetically won't happen for many, many years to come... hypothetically speaking...

Come on - there are heaps of threads here that people fantasise about their role on board Serenity - I too have my share of tasty fantasies... but this is just harmless fun! Give it a go! Make me giggle!! ... we could all use a giggle once in a while... I certainly need one about now...

Gotta agree with Magdalena here. Might as well have fun with it, seeing as it most probably wont happen. I can definitely see another episode with singing, a musical would be a bit strange, but it could work. Imagine this...they come to a planet where everyone are into the creative arts, writing, painting, etc... And they decide to put on a musical of the pasts of all the charactes. And the crew decides to join in the fun... It's possible! (And the job turns out to be the money they get for being in the play) It's just an idea...

Set to "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera

Mal:
Before I was a soldier,
before the gorram war,
I was...a simple farmboy,
with love a big family.

The farmhands raised me up strong,
but so did my ol' ma,
and now, I use their advice,
to guard me and to guide me.

Captain of a firefly,
tall and so strong,
how I long for my sweet childhood,
raising goats and milking cattle,
anyway, those days are over now,
I'm a captain and I'm proud.

Mistress Sahara, I never said you weren't having fun!! Just thought the overall tone was a bit too serious for me! I love the idea of a Serenity crew does Grease episode... Mwaaah!!

LOL!! I love it One Man...! This is why I jump on occassionally! To get a giggle whilst supporting my BDHs... also I don't think I have a life at the moment! Haven't left the house for almost a week due to an injury I done myself! Never mind - you've made my day!

Hey - would we have to change the words at all if River did 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' ... maybe just change it to 'River in the Sky...' ??

Mark Shepherd could pop in to do some really old time music hall numbers... 'My old Man said Follow the Van...' or instead he could do, 'If I were a rich man...'

Oh - Niska could sing the sadistic dentist song from 'Little Shop of Horrors...???

Anyone got more ideas...?

Maybe as a non-canonical DVD extra. I don't know how well the crew could sing though. Ron Glass would probably be great. I could imagine him singing old man river.

Some people have never seen "Paint Your Wagon" staring Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, and Jean Seberg. If they can get Clint and Lee to sing, a slight shiver runs through me, you never know who will be next. And I promise you Jayne would sound better than Clint singing about trees.
