I was just told that there are 2 Firefly conventions coming up. I kind of require money to fly to Gorgia/California, and seeing as how I'm forteen, I quote, "Hard to get to." (the money.)

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to raise money fast so I can go...Firefly is almost my life, and I'm sure a lot of you feel like that too, your just...you know, over 18 and have credit cards and don't need parents permission.

Help would be much appreciated.

(Im new here, I apologize if anything here is offensive or against the rules; I wouldn't know.)

*"Also? I can kill you with my brain."
*"Lurking? uh...You mean standing while black?"
*"Hey Giles! Nice wheels!" "The rest of the car is nice too."

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Yeah, I'm 21 and have credit cards and don't need parents permission... And you know, I still can't afford to go!
Bills suck
Best of luck to you, though! Beg your parents, they might say yes

Offensive. Hardly. Wanting to go to a convention to enjoy something you share with others is not offensive.

If you could tell me how to make quick cash I would like to know? I've been trying to figure that out myself for years.

I would start saving money for some future conventions. There will always be more. There may even be one closer to where you live so you won't have to spend as much on travel.

You may convince some friends to go with you and share expenses.

In MA?

I don't think there's EVER been a convention here, except a trekkie one in boston once. (not really my thing.)

Thank you all; I will be sure to tell you if I find out how to make quick cash.

talking friends into going sounds good; I think I can get stuff out of that; but really, I think I'll just save for 07 Conventions. Thats the best one. Thank you, my dear traveler.

You could try the good old-fashioned method: borrow the money.

The first place to try would be Mom and Dad. Let them know exactly what it would cost (if you can), and then exactly how you intend to pay it back. Remember that the payment could be in kind rather than in dollars -- for example, you could work out a schedule of extra jobs around the house and the value of each.

If the 'rents won't go for it, you could try other relatives or that neighbor down the street who never seems to get his lawn mowed before it looks like a prairie. You might have to work out deals with several people to get enough together.

All this assumes that the folks will let you make the trip on your own, of course. No running away to cons (and no touching guns).

Careful with the Credit Cards. They're not magic goodie getters. I just dug myself out of $7,000 debt the old fashioned way. I worked my ass off and saved. I'll be damned if I was ever going to beg the Alliance to bail me out of debt.

Something they don't teach you in school: Every person who claims bankrupcy is making the value of your dollar worth less.

Good luck getting the funds.

I made a heck of a lot of money in high school mowing lawns. Escpecially since my dad let me use all of his stuff . Enough to get that far? I don't know. I'd suggest finding other people who want to do the same thing and working together.

We dragged my dad to the Lord of the Rings exhibit when we were in Houston last summer, and normally he can't stand sci-fi stuff, but was FASCINATED by all the production of it, the detail, the technology...

Perhaps you can show your parents with examples why this convention would be so interesting! There's sure to be something for everyone. Do they have comic book stuff and sci fi stuff they loved as kids? Cause i bet some of those will be there.
