...and we're enjoying it...we're about five or six episodes in...but, you know. It isn't Firefly.

We were listening to some slightly-banal-but-otherwise-not-too-bad dialogue and I was struck with a pang of homesickness for Firefly so hard it took my breath away.

I found myself looking at Lee Adama and thinking, "He's really cute and likeable, but he's kinda... two-dimensional." On further reflection, I realized that I felt that way about pretty much all the characters.

Does the show get better? Do the characters grow on you? Maybe it's too much to expect the same kind of instant hook I got out of Firefly.

I'd appreciate hearing from viewers out there,

Indigo S.

It gets better. Wat better.

Lee... he's the only character who hasn't much grown on me. But, all the others... wow. They definately, definately grow. It's a great show.

Just wait till you reach the end of Season One. You WILL run out and get Season 2.0. And then you will wait impatiently for the release of Season 2.5 (like I am right now!).

Give it a chance. You'll be glad you did.

Yep, I'm another poster who likes this show a lot. It's great for action, and some of the characters do grow on you. I got ~very~ interested right after an episode called "You can never go home again." That one sold it for me.

It's not Firefly. It's a little too po faced for me. I miss the snappy dialogue that comes from the wonderful folks at Mutant Enemy. But it's still a great show and miles better than most stuff out there.

Lee's cardboard-ness is kinda a character trait, really. I don't think anyone really likes him, we just get used to him.

What she said.
And if ya don't REALLY like it by the end of the season, give up, 'cause that's when it gets good IMHO.

Yep. They grow and grow. Wrong forum but I feel in many ways it is a better show than FireFly. FireFly is the better allaround show, but BSG is right behind it. And I agree with the post about Lee. Has never grown on me either. And you will sprint to get season2, when done with that you will kill to get your hands on season three. You will become EVIL. Don't watch!!!!!!!! kidding.

MISBEHAVEN

Well it's not Firefly to be sure, but it's a first rate Sci-Fi show just the same. Give it a little time, and you'll see a good deal of character development. I have the DVD's through 2.0, and I have watched them all multiple times. I can't wait to buy 2.5 when it's released.

Morbid and creepifying I got no problem with, so long as you do it quiet like.

Same boat.

About Lee Adama - yes, cardboard performance, but with very nice arms.

This might be the unpopular opinion, but I watched all of season 1 and stopped feeling kind of "meh." Like you, I thought it was okay, but none of the characters really grew on me. The show is also very, very dark, and while I don't mind dark, I needed something more in the dialogue (which I found boring, and sometimes even a tad too heavy on the philosophy). A lot of the morality and black/white/shades of gray stuff felt very heavy-handed and obvious.

By comparison, Firefly is (was?) consistently entertaining and while there's deeper levels to the show, it's much more subtle. Plus, character-development in Firefly was forefront, whereas the characters in BSG constantly seemed to be reacting to outside forces instead of internal forces.

That said, I don't like criticizing BSG too much because people get very passionate about the show. I definitely think it operates on a much higher intellectual plane than many tv shows out there today, but there was something about it that I just didn't connect with.

After the first season you will surely put it on that rung, all by it's lonesome, right below FF. Well it's true.

I haven't got Sky so I had to wait till somebody else showed Battlestar Glaactica,Sky Three have only just started showing it every Thursday at 9pm and repeat it on Saturday,I'm only on about the 7th episode.See I have Freeview but not digital TV & Sky brought out a channel on Freeview called Sky Three,it also show's Mutant X(entertaining),Relic Hunter(rubbish),& 4400(great).So every Thursday it's 4400 at 8pm followed by BSG at 9pm.And even though you say BSG is going to get better at the moment I enjoy watching 4400 more not to say I don't like BSG cause I mean it's great too but at the moment BSG is a little slow & where's all this action everybody talk's about, okay I take that back cause yesterday's episode was about Adama taking the battle to the Cylons.

IMO, Lee's "cardboard-ness" is actually due to Jamie Bamber's attempt to squash his very British accent. He comes off stiff because of this.

That said, I think the show is brilliant, I admire the casting of Starbuck as a woman, and generally recreating the show's mythology within the "original" BG parameters.

I was/am a fan of the original series "back in the day", and my TIVO knows my preferences well enough that it tapes original episodes every once in a while for me. And I watch them.

Can't wait for the new season to begin, though!
