I just read a great book with the ideal role for Nathan Fillion.

Dirty Sweet by John McFetridge is a crime novel set in Toronto about Russian mobsters, bikers, internet porn and real estate scams. The main guy, Vince Fournier, runs an internet porn site. He is the epitome of laid-back cool.

Our boy would do a great job in the movie and it would be a departure from his funny hick parts.

and nobody can guess what a script would look
like, or how it would play. Has the author's
previous work (if any) been adapted for film?

The basic idea is intriguing. But is there
action? Is there love interest? Does Fournier
get to be a bad guy? (Discounting what he
does already)

Or do we all just get the book and read it,
casting Nathan in the part?

Ooooh Bun! I like to do that already ... I sometimes read books with a cast in mind, even if it hasn't been made into a film yet... I have cast Mr Fillion as a couple of bad guys after seeing Caleb... and then when I meet him (one day) I will get him to call me a 'dirty girl'... sorry off topic...

I'm reading a Kay Scarpetta novel by Patricia Cornwell and I keep thinking of Nandi as Kay...

Also just re-read Pride and Prejudice and cast (don't laugh) Adam as Mr Darcy and Sean as Mr Bingly but I managed to get them muddled up and they kind of became an Adam/Sean type of Mr Darcy... ??? I can do that you know - it's not a film ... it's imagination!!

I don't do it on purpose, but sometimes books
seem to cast themselves while I am reading
them. Possibly (in a current-day novel) the
author was thinking of someone while writing
and it leaks through.

If an author is really specific about looks
and so on, I construct something in my mind
and nothing much will knock it loose. Or a
character builds himself/herself. I've read
some Cornwells already but should see if I
can put Nandi in the Kay part. Could be
interesting.

Meanwhile, we must find more roles for Nathan!

Here's a thought. Now that Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson's careers are in theoretical flames (Cruise is finished, but Gibson could possible bounce back), how about the studios, who are attempting to scale back the amount they spend on movies (a smart fiscal move if you ask me) give Nate Fillion the roles they would have normally dangled in front of Mel and Tom. And not just leads in B sci-fi movies, but legit leading actor roles.

Just a thought.

And yes, you should read these books to see if you agree. This one and Dirty Sweet are available at bookstores and many libraries.
