I was looking for a new TV series to put in my queue, and I found Firefly sitting down there at spot 24! I've seen this page every few weeks since January and I've never noticed Firefly on it.
It's awesome to see it sitting among the popular shows like 24, Sex and the City, The Office, and the Sopranos. I wonder if it was the Serenity Hugo Award?!
What shiny-ness!

Wow! That's great! Thanks for the news!

Can I ask where you find this list? To be honest, I would *love* to look at it and see if Everwood just happened to be on it...

I think you actually have to have a Netflix account. :( Sorry!

The only other ones on the list besides the ones I listed earlier are: Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Lost, and the Chappelle Show.

This is the Netflix write-up for Firefly:

"Set almost 500 years in the future, this short-lived but much-loved TV series follows the adventures of the ragtag crew (Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk and others) of the transport spaceship Serenity. No job is too small, too dirty or too close to the line of illegality for the crew to tackle to remain fed and fueled. But when a passenger is wanted by the ruling Alliance regime, the Firefly must hide out the dangerous fringes of space."

For one, I'm not sure illegality is a word?? Is it? Maybe it is, but it sounds odd.
Next, the last sentence is not complete and they called it "the Firefly." Now I know that the ship is a Firefly, but, again, it sounds weird. :)

I *think* this link should work even if you don't have a Netflix account:

Firefly is currently #23 of all TV shows on Netflix.

Would it be wrong for me to get a Netflix account just to drive Firefly up the chart?

Illegality \Il`le*gal"i*ty\, n.; pl. Illegalities. [Cf. F.
ill['e]galit['e].]
The quality or condition of being illegal; unlawfulness; as,
the illegality of trespass or of false imprisonment; also, an
illegal act.

I think those ratings are based on how many people actually get Firefly shipped to them each week, so I'm pondering basically the same thing: is it wrong for me to have Firefly sent to me (I'll just turn around and send it right back), just to drive up its popularity? Would I be making the wait longer for people who actually haven't seen the show yet..? Hmmm...

Thanks for the definition! I figured it was real but it still sounds odd.

And, yes, of course you should join Netflix to bump Firefly up!!

Hey, California, thanks for the link! I couldn't get mine to work. :)

I've been pondering the same thing.
It will at least tell Netflix they need more FF copies on hand!

"The Firefly" notwithstanding, that's one of the better summaries I've ever seen for our BDS!

It IS one of the better summaries- which is kind of sad, really. It's just a hard show to put in a few sentences, I suppose.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

This is shiny!
Wish I knew my mom's netflix password. I keep trying to get her to watch Firefly and she hasn't. Maybe if she got it in the mail she would watch it (plus it would drive up the ranking). But I don't know her password, and it would be quite pointless of me to join.

I just tried to give my rating for Firefly on there, and you don't have to be a member. You just click on the stars (obviously 5 stars) and it saves it. I don't think it will get it any higher on the list, but it might at least boost it's rating.

"The Firefly" is perfectly good usage in the sentence quoted. Suppose the show in question was about a Mississippi riverboat or WWII PT boat named "Serenity" -- if they referred to her as "the riverboat" or "The PT boat", it wouldn't be incorrect.

But hey, top 25; not too shabby.

As I've said before, Firefly/Serenity isn't so much the new Star Wars/Star Trek as it is "The little engine that could"...
