Hello all, my first post...be gentle.

Love the 'verse that I just discovered this summer. I've been buying dvd's for everyone I know for the coming (but months away) holidays :)

I kinda like this shirt. Anyone know what the (mandarin?) characters mean? They look different than the characters in the orginal Serenity logo. Thanks.

Dunno about the shirt, but I can be the first to welcome you to our little 'verse! *Hands Wolfen a strawberry and a big ol' mug of mudder's milk. Points him to the kitchen where there is probably some wife soup and other assorted goodies available.*

Welcome aboard Wolfen68.

Not sure on the shirt either but wanted to welcome you to this end of the 'verse. Stick around and FollowMal should be around shortly to give you a browncoat.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

I'm afraid I can be of no help, either.

But, it's shiny that you're here! Welcome to the 'verse; hope to see you around; and, enjoy your stay (hopefully life-long)!

Those are the Chinese characters for "Firefly".

Welcome to FFF.net!

Looks like the image for that shirt was taken directly from here: http://chineseculture.about.com/library/symbol/blcc_firefly.htm

My best guess is that those are the two *different* ways to write firefly. The one furthest to the left looks an aweful lot like the charm Dragonweave.com has for "Firefly": http://www.dragonweave.com/chinese-japanese-symbol-charms-f.html#firef
ly
The one furthest to the right is also present in the lower portion of the character furthest two the left, and the one in the middle apparenlty means Fire: http://chineseculture.about.com/library/symbol/blcc_fire.htm

So my guess? The reference on About.com for "firefly" actually says: "firefly, fire, fly/bug" (reading left to right). Someone who didn't know what that said took all three and plopped it on a shirt on CafePress.

But I could be wrong. I have very little knowledge of Chinese.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome (one of the best ever in many years of forum boards)! I'm pretty stoked over firefly in general (and disgusted that it got cancelled when other less deserved shows live on) and it's great to see others that feel the same.

I assumed it meant "firefly" or some iteration of it...I just wanted to be sure it didn't mean "monkey's uncle" or something worse (not that I have anything against monkey's uncles...actually never met one...I don't think).
