Here we go again... Episode Order Discussion *SPOILERS*

I recently downloaded the 3 unaired episodes Trash, The Message, & Heart Of Gold all encoded from their run on SciFi UK and not the leaked vhs. I started out assuming that the order would be the one that will be on the upcoming DVD. Which I assumed was:
1x01 - Serenity
1x02 - The Train Job
1x03 - Bushwhacked
1x04 - Shindig
1x05 - Safe
1x06 - Our Mrs. Reynolds
1x07 - Jaynestown
1x08 - Out Of Gas
1x09 - Ariel
1x10 - War Stories
1x11 - Trash
1x12 - The Message
1x13 - Heart Of Gold
1x14 - Objects In Space
...which I have heard from internet sources, including this one, was the order that the producers had originally intended. But after watching Heart Of Gold with the scene at the end with Inara wanting to leave, the order seems skewed a bit. If the above order is correct, than the scenes with Inara in the following episode, Objects In Space, make no sense. Since I'm anal and have to know these things, can someone please inform me as to the correct order?

to my knowledge this is the correct order. It's amazing how much debate persists about the order after it came directly from the horses mouth. Apparently there was a change to one scene in OIS for airing that will be restored on the DVD. I'm not sure how one scene will make it right between them but who knows. Ahh the magic of editing.

The edited scene is the Mal and Inara conversation on the catwalk in the beginning of OiS. The original version makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Inara talks about leaving on Serenity's next stop (New Melbourne) and how she could find a new client for the shuttle if Mal needs one. She hasn't decided to tell the rest of the crew yet and Mal's keeping his tongue in check. That's paraphrasing the dialogue.

So can someone summarise the original scene that that was changed from? I'm watching the Sci-Fi UK run, and haven't seen any downloads etc. Just like to know what was changed!!

If it's of any help, I've seen them all now in the order posted above except for OIS (next Monday), and the continuity seems to make perfect sesns - in fact, to have a flow that would not work in any other order, because of references to previous happenings. I don't know how much has been changed/readded to make it work, but it does!

Check out Talrius' post above - just hilight the blank section (he did it that way to avoid spoiling it for folks as didn't want to know)

And yeah - it does make a lot more sense this way.

there isnt a really good way to get ahold of someone on winmx unless u meet in a prearranged channel. i use msn messenger and my email is power_of_zero@hotmail.com, msg me on there and ill tell u what to do to get hooked up.

The reason for the continued debate, as I both understand and continue it, is that Tim said it in an indefinite way. He didn't say it was the order, he said that it was to the best of his recollection, the adding of this phrase implies he was not sure.

Alone that is nothing and everyone would believe that is the order, but because there are things in Trash and The Message that refer to OiS makes it seem like outing OiS after them is like putting Trash after The Message. (The most obvious thing is that Jayne knows River is psychic in The Message but is surprised when he [first] finds out about it in OiS.)

That is why debate continues even though an order came from the horse’s mouth. Of course it is also important to remember the issues with the order are issues with the ones we have seen, which are not the same as the intended ones. Until we see what changes were made there is no way to know if there aren’t two distinct orders, both of which are right provided you are watching the right version of the episodes.

Ahh! I was WONDERING about that! That was the only reason that I didn't understand the order because after HoG, they didn't seem to talk about that anymore. But that's so sad to end the season/series(fox) like that! I take it the movie may pick up from there.
