My apologies for posting so late in the day. Between FFF.net being down and work, this was the soonest possible, gorramnit!

I’d like to say that I’m amazed and humbled by the amount of time, work and effort that the contestants and the judges put in to make this contest a success. The love you all feel for the creation that is Firefly is inspiring. You people make me giddy, and I have loved every minute of working with each and every one of you. Browncoats RULE. Thank you.

Please note, the highest score an entry can earn with the rating system (scores from 0 to 5) with five judges is 25.

An extra-special heartfelt thank you is extended to the other judges (LithiumDoll, jtskier1200r, MalNourished, FollowMal), who, when they volunteered for the task, possibly did not fully realize what they were signing themselves up for. The time they took to comment on each of the 48 entries, their surmounting of youtube bandwidth issues, was invaluable. 11thHour declined to judge for personal reasons, and we thank her for her initial consideration of taking on the judging task.

But I digress, and I’m sure you find that irritating. So, to get to the part that everyone is waiting for, we do have our winners, and they are...

Thanks, Hera, to you and all the other judges, (LithiumDoll, jtskier1200r, MalNourished, FollowMal. You had a difficult job. I enjoyed checking out all of the entries. They were fun to watch. Thanks to everyone who entered their fan trailers.

No, I don't.

Oh, and those were really great. I especially liked Tzegha's "Serenity" trailer, because it would be perfect to show to non-Browncoats (i.e. is not spoilerific). Not that I'm saying that any of the other ones weren't good, and yummy, and neat (because they were all that and more), it's just... I can see why that video won, is all.

A big thank-you to Hera, LithiumDoll, jtskier1200r, MalNourished, FollowMal, 11thHour, and all of the entries. Warms my heart...

I want to thank fireflyfans.net for giving me a reason to even try making trailers! It gave me a reason to try making some more videos and I was having a great time! I also want to say thank you to the fellow vidders who gave me helpful hints and critique that will help me grow! PS...I watched most of these videos already, to see what the others were doing and I HAVE to say you are all VERY talented and really have some great insight into the feeling for Firefly! I feel very lucky t have been a part of this ~

SHINYDS

There sure is a lot of thanks and gratitude and so forth being exchanged every which a'way here, and I figured that since I owe so much the the people who made this possible, I might get in on some of that. Thank you to the concept creaters of this here video contest. Thank you to the judges who made the whole thing possible. Thank you to those who helped me along the way. Thank you to everyone else for putting up such shiny videos. And, of course, Thanks you to Joss and the cast and crew and everyone who made Firefly and Serenity possible. Making the videos was twenty different kinds of fun and seeing the finished products is all manner of gratifying. It was hard, intense, sweaty, grimy, grungy work. Ok, I suppose not so grungy. It was hard, intense, sweaty, grimy work. Actually, just hard, intensive, sweaty work. ...Well, it was work. But in the end, it was all worth it. So once again, thank you all!

The plan is to host the winners on the fireflyfans youtube page once we get that up and rolling.

EDIT: I meant "myspace page", not youtube. Heh.

But if someone wants to host an additional way, feel free. The more the merrier.

Yeah, but youtube is such a crappy lowres non standard format. Besides, there are many people I might get to watch the series, but who would never watch youtube.

How about posting them in high res(dvd?) format at least once to the binary newsgroups - that way no storage is required, and I'm sure someone would pick up the ball and run with it.

Actually, just get them all together and make a Torrent file out of them, then post the torrent. It will take up a little of whoever's hosting's bandwidth, and then people can seed them on their own.

Sounds cool, whatever that means.

Define for me: seed, torrent, and who hosts these things?

Kids, I assume all these are great suggestions, but you're talking to someone who doesn't know how to do what you are suggesting. Any clarification or a volunteer to coordinate would be very helpful.

Totally random trivia here, but I was pleased to note that our winners split down the middle along gender lines: 2 men and 2 women. We have a pretty balanced 'verse.

PS
Burning onto CD's is also a cool idea. I know it was thought of i nthe past to make trailers of the movie etc burn them to cds or dvds, and hand them out or leave them in public spaces.. but there was some reservations whether they would be thrown out or not.

*bump* I think more people should see them, and show them to new folks etc to help them get hookd. Is there anyway to have these linked on a central page or something? How about linking these winning trailers to the front page of fff.net? Can that be set up?
Prakash

ETA: I realize on Youtube, you can create a group , so if we can link all the episode trailers and the serenit ytrailr and overview to one group, then it would be easier to send a link to that group(the address would be relatively easy to remember)... watchya think?

Heya kids, so sorry I've been out of touch. Real life has been interesting this past month, but I'm recovering and slowly getting back in contact.

Kurya/FM: I'll try and do some youtube research to see if I can set up the group of the winning vids that Kurya spoke of. We'd thought in terms of that before, but it fell off the radar. Kurya, thank you for suggesting it!

Considering having a link to the vids from fff.net: I've sent messages to Haken a couple of times in the past year concerning the adding of a button on the home page for the Big Damn Browncoat Calendar, and never heard back. That being said, I'm at a loss how to orchestrate putting something permanent on the home page. Maybe we can brainstorm further on this point...?

That's all for now. Again, my apologies for being so out of touch!

Best,
-Hera

Thank you, Kurya, for tackling this. I like your descriptions, too! Well done.

Now that I'm back, I'm hoping to have some time to devote to the Firefly myspace idea, where we can host the vids there as well. Discussions were ongoing with jtskier1200r when I went in for surgery, so I hope to pick up on them shortly.

The debate was whether or not to start a new Firefly page, or add the videos to our favorite of the existing pages.

Hopefully, more on that soon.

Thanks again for your help on this!

I used Longhorn Trophies in Austin, TX, but most trophy makers can do something like this, no problem. I chose the bases, provided the jpg of the artwork for the plaque, and the Serenity ornaments from Dark Horse Comics. They glued the ornaments to the bases, and etched the metal plates with the info I provided.

Everytime I went in to check on the order, I would just have to say "You know, the space ships?" and the clerk would go "Oh, yeah. I remember those."

Hope this helps.
