Hello Imponderers... I love the way this is family for so many folk around the world - you're all awesome!

Thank you for getting in touch with me LA! My reply is on it's way - but it's hotmail so keep an eye on your junk folder too... *hugs LA*

You are awesome MsG! Ilove your passion for your work and your husband - he is one lucky guy - and as for your passion for food... I mentioned I've started swimming to USA haven't I - I'll be pretty hungry when I get there - what's your addy?

I agree it helps to have something in common other than mutual attraction and little else... more than just sunsets would be good though... I have dated people with totally divergent interests and they usually end up with other women who have more in common - but then I have dated actors and in true dramatic style they tend to burn bright and then get too distracted to grow in the relationship so there's an argument against it too... hmmm might explain why I never married...

But Tristan...sunsets, Firefly, acting, history... *sigh* ...other side of the bloody world! (I tried to be good - honestly!)

Got to go - school holidays here and I have little treasures to care for! Love you all...

I've been doing a fair bit of pondering over the last few days, and I think I've pondered quite the imponderable...

I'm fairly sure my parents don't love each other. Moreover, they haven't for quite a few years. It wasn't at all obvious, in retrospect, because they got along well, but they aren't much of a 'couple'. My parents treat each other more like old friends than anything else, but I can't for the life of me see anything the slightest bit passionate about them.

It doesn't alter my life over-much, seeings as I'm already older than my father was when I was born, but it's a bit... strange to think about. That they would last this long as 'pals with rugrats'...

Really makes y'think, don't it?

Oh, and I'm opening up the Pondering Nook in James' Sulking Corner and Gormet Coffee House. Join. Sulk. Ponder. Drink coffee.

... I would like a strong coffee, lots of skim milk & with something to ponder James...

That's kind of sad, but kind of sweet at the same time about your parents...

My parents love one another but there is no way I'd ever call them passionate - neve have seen that - they just love being in love and that is good for them! It doesn't need to be fireworks all the time... They can get a little cute at times though... makes you sick really...

*sigh* ... and you're in Canada ...right? (and way too young as Phoenix Rose is always pointing out...)

My parents divorced when I was 6... I never did figure out what went wrong, but they were very civil about it, they still talk sometimes, they dont hate each other... Meh, my dad didnt really approve of much of what I did at the time, so I cant say I regret what happened. Good guy though, my dad. Wasimmer.

no sulking corner for me I dont think... i'm feeling pretty averagely boring at the moment. Got two or three hours to kill before I have to go to sleep and then school. Wonder what I'll do.

P.S. I'm so sad that I was left out of the water fight... then again, I wouldnt exactly quantify my chest as manly....

Geesh...go to work, get stuck in a "Professiona Collaboration Day" thingy and everyone goes post crazy...

*pats LA's shoulder* I'm sorry to hear that your marriage is going so poorly. It's been said before, and I'll repeat the message: We're willing to listen, sympathize (even empathize), support and offer comfort foods (chocolates, coffee, etc.) Kidding aside, if you need to vent, we're willing to listen -- even by PM if you like.

Oh...Tristan...for some reason today, I remembered one type of kiss I miss the most -- the toe-curler. The kind where it's soooo good that your toes curl -- it doesn't have to be the lust-filled, crashing lips type. Sometimes the quiet, long, yum-filled ones where you're just so into each other that...*sighs dreamily* okay...stopping now since I'm still at work *pouts*.

*shakes self sane*
MsG, for me, there's gotta be some similarity...As a geek of unusual degree (was an electrical engineering student, now a science teacher whose specialty was physics) I need someone who has a slight degree of geek-iness to understand my quirks. I don't need a s.o. who is totally like me (we'd drive each other crazy eventually), but a bit of a computer-geek, tech-geek, or even theater crew-geek (used to work tech crew in high school so I can call 'em that).

JtD: It does sound sad, in a way, that your parents are not wildly in love with each other. Yet, in a weird way, it might be a good thing. There's too many parents who hate each other in this world. Having parents who like each other is and can live with each other isn't the best, but it's still good.

*sighs* Y'know, I had planned to go swimming today...*shrugs* Oh well, back to the endless piles of paperwork.

Edited to add: Awww...Whitefall...*whips watercannon out and soaks Whitefall* *slips a bit and manages to get Kelkhil soaking wet too* Ooopsie.

Accents are always hot. Always always always.

On an unrelated note: WHY AM I SO RELATIONSHIPLY AWKWARD??? It's really starting to get annoying, only I can't figure out how to stop being awkward.

As a science teacher...HEY! I RESSEMBLE that remark! (...Oh and by the way, you missed the portion about how because of the angle of the light to that portion of the atmosphere, it's the longer waves of light that you see from the sun...) *notices the dead silence, and looks of non-comprehension and boredom* Sorry...think I've already mentioned I'm a geek?

(And the sad thing is, I've actually hung out with someone and had a full-on analytical physics-based conversation about the G-forces for Pharoh's Fury while watching it, and waiting for our friends to finish their ride...We even did rough calculations for the highest angle for the ride, how we'd calculate the height using a compass, a ruler, string, and a weight...) ...Ahhh...PG rated fun times...

*comes into the Pondering Nook of the James Sulking Corner & Gormet Coffee House.*
James, can I get a green tea and a chocolate mousse? I have a lot to ponder after reading this thread.

LittleAlbatross29, it sounds like you got a lot of good advise and support. In your situation, sometimes you just need to talk to someone. I think you have found out that there are alot of us here that are willing to help. It sounds like you have taken the 1st step in recognizing that it is not a healthy environment for you and your children. Zeek and Whitefall have shared that a divorce can be better than staying in a relationship that is distructive. You have alot to consider.

MsG, great advise, and I like your outlook on relationships.

Pondering - Do we need to have similar interests in a relationship? We are all unique individuals, so the partnership between 2 people is always unique. I think it's great if you can find things to do together that you both enjoy, but it's not a necessity. More important to me would be to have similar ethics and values. I can be with someone who's a sports nut (I'm not), but I couldn't connect with someone who is deceitful. Although would I really want to be with someone who didn't love Firefly. I think not!

James, the mousse was great. I'm going to recommed it to all of my friends. One added little thing, don't think too much about your parents relationship. It's what they chose. Besides if there was passion, would you really want to know.

Dont neciserily think two people have to have any common interests or share ethic, political or religous backgrounds to have a relationship. But it sure helps if you have some common ground with the person.

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

*stretches* Sorry everyone! I have been in what might be called a drugged sleep; I took a remedy this morning that will probably address several problems I've been having. I don't know if anyone knows about homeopathy, but it can cause symptoms to manifest before they go away, and one of the symptoms it's supposed to address is sleeping overmuch. So I slept overmuch.

Oh LittleAlbatross, I'm sorry to hear that! We're here for you, whatever we can do you let us know!

I'm a sucker for accents. I should never go to Europe; I would be falling in love every time someone talked to me. I don't know what it is! But I totally get that, Kelkhil.
I nervously giggle a lot. I laugh easily, so it can be hard to tell, but if I'm giggling waaaay too much, it's a bad sign. It's really bad because sometimes a guy who makes me really nervous will be hitting on me hard and all I can do is giggle, which encourages them.

Emotional abuse is the worst thing in the world, LittleAlbatross I'm really, really sorry to hear about it! But you do have a support network; you have us! 24 hours a day, there's likely to be someone on. Don't knock yourself out and make yourself miserable. If it's not fixable, then it's not, and it isn't something you should have to put up with It can take a lot to get past, I know. I was emotionally abused by my dad, and it scarred me deeply. Every week it seems I find new damage in my psyche that I need to work on repairing. But it can be repaired. You can be okay again, and you can find the happiness you deserve!
I came up with an analogy for relationships after my most recent experience, thought you and all the other imponderables might appreciate it; a relationship is like a person. You have to nourish it every day or it will start having health problems. Once that starts, you have a limited amount of time to make it better, and it will take more work to do so than it would have to keep it healthy in the first place (ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, doncha know) and it takes both sides working very hard at fixing things, at making the relationship better. If it's beyond help, or if both people don't work at it hard enough, the relationship dies. It dies and is buried. At that point, I believe, it can only come back as a shadow of itself, like a ghost or a zombie, and it cannot and will not ever be what it was.
You do not want a zombie ghost undead relationship just for the sake of the familiar. I remind myself of that every day.
My parents split up when I was 4, made the divorce final when I was 6. More than anything, my mom wishes she hadn't put so much of herself into trying to make it work after it was dead. Now, as an adult, I can look at my parents and be very glad that they didn't stay together for my sake, because life would have been hell. My dad did that thing of nothing was really his fault, and their marriage would be fine if she just did everything he said. He actually said that. Counseling was pointless (he not only wouldn't change, but was very good at talking people around to his beliefs; the counselor actually told my mom that him having an affair was her fault. Can you believe?) So yeah, not a happy scene.
I feel kinda bad that I missed so much while I was passed out. But now my two cents are out there.

Back to accents! I'm a total parrot and just start to speak with an accent if I'm around people who are. Sometimes I can duplicate it later, sometimes I can't. My mom tells me that every time I go to Kansas to visit relatives I come back with an accent, but I totally can't hear it. On the other hand, I can do an almost dead-on British accent, and a totally dead-on valley girl accent (why would I want to do a valley girl accent? Because there are certain companies we answer for at my job that have a bit of controversy around them and we don't want the callers to know where we are. They all think we're in California if they talk to me because I always answer like a valley girl) I haven't been around Irish accents enough to really do one, but I guarantee after a month or less in Ireland I would be talking like a native.
I do prefer a SO with a lot in common with me; makes spending time with them easier. It is important to have that deeper compatibility, though. Whatever that actually is; kinda hard to put a finger on. For me, a big important thing would be wanting to touch a lot. Just reaffirm the connection and the attraction. Holding hands, snuggling, just touching...
OK, my mind kinda wandered away for a moment there. But liking similar music and movies is good too. And I would just love to date a Browncoat who would call me bao bei
Damn, neko, that kiss description almost made my own toes curl! *slinks off to the coffee shop and sulking corner*
*comes running back with big-ass water Vera and soaks Whitefall*

Hello, my little 'Ponder pals... Just popping in briefly, having caught up with the earlier threads. Filth and depravity - and I missed it, damn.

LA, I've sent you a pm, hope you get it. Been there, sort of.

May be absent again for a while. I'm behind on my writing, and I'm starting to get ominous e-mails from my readership. I think the next step is the Captain's ear in a box, sort of thing. So I need to get some work done. Husband is away, but my friends are so keen that I'm not lonely, that I'm actually out more than I am normally. One friend is a Browncoat - his wife just rolls her eyes when we get yapping. But she did enjoy 'Trash' and is willing to become converted...

I'm not big on crime fiction, but I'd love to read one of your books sometime. Can you tell us what the one you're writing is about, or is there a legal thing saying you can't?

PR - I know it. I never missed a deadline at college, believe me. Since I work at about 2,000 words per chapter, and was posting at least one a week, I don't think a two week break is too monstrous. Particularly since I am drafting about two stories ahead at present.

Pfft! That's such a daft attitude.

The only advice I can give would be to have a look at as many books in the same genre as yours as possible. Take note of the names of the agents (authors usually thank their agents) and the publisher. When you notice a trend, you have a target!

Be sure to mention the books in your cover letter too. Publishers don't always want to know if something is good, they want to know if it'll sell. If you can mention a couple of successful authors of the same genre then that'll swing things in your favour.

Yes, I have yet to publish anything, but I've heard all this stuff works. I hope to write non-fiction books. Some day

Oh, MSG, almost forgot...*drool*. The endives; do you get them from a natural grocer by any chance?

PR, missed you yesterday!

Water cannons again? Oy!
*joins James in the sulking corner/coffee area*
Just the thing to get the day started, eh?

Magdalena, I also regret being halfway around the world...

DTH, thanks for the kissing thingy. I would so go to the special hell for Saffron...sorry, was that out loud?

VerseExplorer, good luck on those Flanvention tickets! If you win, take lots of pictures to share with those of us unable to attend!

Ok, time for coffee and I will be back.

You're too young for her, darlin.
But not too young for me
But you're in Canada, which also means you are far away

Thank you dearest Penguin... I will - I just got in from my meeting (no really - I did VX!!) and I jumped back on line to see who's about - I am so excited and my browncoat friend is so jealous - and there will be others as I spread the word! You really are the shiniest!! (and this mythical land called Iowa - it has a real postal service??? Wow! You really are King!)

And - yeah - the Gorgeous Phoenix Rose answered all questions in my absence - thank you Mei-Mei!

Did anyone else hear that today was international pirate day...? I watched "The Princess Bride" just to get some 'Dread Pirate Roberts' goodness...

James - let me break this to you gently... I am not the same age as Phoenix Rose - I am actually 39 so ... too old for you! I am so sorry darling, but I know you will get over it with time....

Hello Tristan - have you had your coffee yet?

Well, now, do I stay on line or do I go and watch 'Done the Impossible'? ...

EDIT: We did it again GPR! Love you - Magda x x x

I just have to say that you all are the most wonderful people. The show of support from all of you is helping me find my courage once again. It's been too long since I thought of my own happiness. And here you guys are encouraging me. I'm humbled by your caring.

So that being said ,since in my family we show love with food
I've got coffee & freshly baked pumpkin muffins & bagels for all !!

Magda, that's not what I meant and you know it! I was trying to be all romantical and such, Casablanca-esque and all, and you had to sully it!
Kidding, my dear!

LA29, glad we can help...and we'll be here throughout.
Shiny! Pumpkin muffins! We've got plenty of coffee to go with all of that!

morning all...sorry I'm late. Bit of chaos this morning setting up for the IOWA( basic skills test given to measure progress)and yes this makes Penguin king of a mythical land as well as arbiter of children's progress and teacher's survivial( no child left behind, the kids don't pass, we get transferred or fired)So I am now sitting in a silent room timing all the kids while they take section 2 of the reading:) Anyway, wow I missed a lot
Tristan- yes they are organic endive:)
Magda- I'm glad you love the dvd...one of the editors is here in Utah so I got to see it months and months ago...but it rocks and I'll tell Jeremy he did a great job!
PR- hope you're feeling better gorgeous
James- I think young is a relative term. I keep getting referred to as the "young" teacher even though I am 33 now. I will now point out to PR that Canada isn't all that far from Colorado and all...and there's this nifty new invention called the air plane and another called the car:)
LA- Hey mine shows love the same way....cooking and making meals the person loves are a way to give joy, happiness, and love to someone without words:)

Parents who love each other...mine are bonkers over each other, but I don't think I have ever recovered from the day I was trying to find my dad's chocolate stash ( he hides it from the rest of us, usually unsuccessfully)and found his condoms instead...so maybe not having your parents be overly passionate around you is good.

I choose to rise instead of fall- U2

Pumpkin muffins? I never had those. Only thing I use pumpkin for is a nice authentic dhansak.

So, here's an Imponderable. Can I call my curries authentic? I buy, roast and grind my own spices, and make my sauces from scratch, but ethnically, I'm not Indian. So, how to you determine if a dish is authentic? Ingredients or location?

I am not joining in the other pondering - husband is still away.

Btw - what is chatzy? Everyone seems to be 'over there' - is this one of those secret parties?

I think if you make it in the authentic style, it is authentic.

As for chatzy, it's a chat place where Whimsicalnbrainpan set up "Haven" for us when the site went down. Now we keep going back because it's just shiny there. I'll send you the link if you so desire.

Thank you, MsG, I am feeling quite a bit better. Except I injured my toe. But mostly I'm doing pretty well. My canker sores are gone, which is a huge relief.
I do love my remedies.

Mmmm....*Drool*....Pumpkin Muffins and coffee!

I love pumpkin muffins. Don't really know why though. Not a big pumpkin fan. But muffins and doughnuts are great. Oh and a pie recipe that my mother in law makes is pretty good too. I should dig it up and put it on the recipe thread.

All right with all these accents floating around I am going to have to set up a server and run Vent off of it so that I can hear them.

I would conjure that if you make the dish from scratch then it's authentic.Sounds good .I'm not that creative in the kitchen, but can cook well.Especially holiday fare.

Pumpkin muffins are my favorite this time of year. They put me in an autumn kind of mood. The leaves will start changing here soon.

And on another note -If i have to watch Barney or Shrek again today ,I think my brain will melt.
I just got little Sean a onesie that says " I aim to misbehave ".Very cute.

Mmmmmmm... yummy - of course it's spring here - there are the very early summer fruits... I just got my first mango today - expensive but so worth it!!

Awww... How old is little Sean? He sounds too cute for words!! (OK, I'm a nanny - you all knew that right!?) Oh - and I'd chose Shrek over Barney - most grown ups can quote it so you won't feel quite so silly when lines from it just pop out of your mouth! (or so I'm told...)

And Tristan - as for sullying Paris - I would never intentionally do that sweetheart! ...Was just a little jealous is all... after a 6' tall, gorgeous, blonde Parisian... what hope does a 5' 5" plump brunette from Australia stand...?
