"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Well, after thinking the whole ball of wax over again, I am beginning to wonder where reason may reside. I'm pretty sure it's not on this thread, but I know I've seen it somewhere on fff.net. Regarding the peacemaker, I apologize. I meant to say "Cheesemaker".

CMH, I fear you missed me point in its long-winded entirety. I was actually defending your position. To a point. I shall attempt not to err in that direction again. Apologies.

So Seryn, you're saying Cousin It might also fall under your definition of daft? You have to admit though, he was a style hound. Bowler hats are always in season. Ask Badger.

"Well, here I am."

SERYN

Cousin It was an entity all his own, and bowler hats never go out of style no.

Vital difference is tribbles came in thousands, the attempt to be unique from that particular tribble sadly backfired terribly.

still... points for effort.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

What got us all here in the first place? I mean, why are each one of us posting on this board? Firefly, right? So, that means we are all fans of the show...we are all Browncoats. We all came to this board because of our love for a TV show and a movie...and an entire philosophy of life that we have embraced. And guess what? This community is one big, happy, disfunctional family...much like our BDH's. We are all here because we want to be here. We are also like most like-minded groups of humans...we will fight amongst ourselves if we do not have an outside threat. We will find anything to keep us occupied until the next threat materializes. You know, if we focused this energy elsewhere, there's no telling what we could accomplish.
Thanks for being Browncoats. Every one of you.

***Claps***

Well said Tristan! Thanks for trying to be a voice of calm and reason.

I'm not "Forsaken", whatever it is that that is supposed to mean. I have seen the threads, but like other such threads that have come and gone, I leave them be and don't even read them. I figure they are a private party of a sorts, and since I didn't get an invite, I busy myself elsewhere.

I'm a Browncoat. Always have been, always will be. The Browncoat ranks are made up of a lot of different people, diverse people with different beliefs, religions, politics, prospectives, agendas, etc. It is these differences that make us better as a whole.

I hate to see browncoats bickering, but it does happen from time to time. Families have their arguements, and what are we if not an online family. We just need to remember that though we may disagree on some things, we do agree on why we are here. We should try to respect everyone's beliefs, religion, and opinions, even if we do not agree with them or understand them.

Our show is based on one principle: freedom. Freedom is what allows us the security of our own beliefs and opinions, safe from the persecution of others. Let's all try to remember that. None of us have the right to force our opinions or beliefs on others. I may not like what you have to say, but I will die defending your right to say it.

Keep flyin' browncoats.

I'd guess that threads like this are the reason old members are staying away and new members are afraid of posting.

That makes me very sad. I'm going to try to pretend I never read it.

Thank you, BrownCoat1. Never thought of myself as a voice of reason by any stretch, but thanks.
And may I extend an invitation to the Forsaken thread to you and anyone else who wants to pop in? It's not a private party; hasn't been for a long time. Just folk talkin' and havin' fun.

DAYVE

2 cents

i've got to say that I feel rather ambivalent towards this whole wacky situation, but honestly, Chris - I've got to say that I would be willing to take you little more seriously if you would not profess you ambition of becoming a German Waffen SS officer... that is just stupid, IMHO...

and.. point of fact, the original Forsaken took their lead from someone (gee, already forgot his moniker), who went on a rant about religion and called a few people to task for differing opinions (differing from his that is).... I wish I could say that I respect everyone's opinion - i try - but some people really go a tad too far...

And, Guy, I don't know what you expected when you started this thread - but I doubt if you got the reaction you were looking for.

Well, my statement was a general one to a long list of people before you (note the use of plurals), but it was directed to you as well. To that end, I apologize for my misinterpertation.

Anywho, I hope this is the last time anyone speaks of it.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

I'll see your 2 cents Dayve, and raise you 2 bits. While I am far from being an old-timer to either our far-flung forums or FF/S in the first place, I HOPE that we never stop posting. We've tossed around words like "respect for others' beliefs" (and implied sensitivities) and so on. And it isn't really hard to do. Witness the INCREDIBLE amount of respect, tolerance and restraint observed and observable in the "Religions/Beliefs of Browncoats" thread just last month!

I'd very much to put the whole dead horse to rest, CMH, having come into the middle of this thing I am not acquainted with any of the background. Generally I've found that when tempers rise to this degree, it's no longer the topic at issue: it's the history, however short it may be. The remainder of my comments shall therefore in no way be directed toward you, or worse yet at you. Or anyone else for that matter. I don't know you. Any of you, except from what I read here. And considering how prolific somes of us be, I feel like Burgess Meredith in the Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough at Last".

IMVHO, the line that gets crossed for a Troll accusation to hold any water is name-calling. Trolls are out there expressly to ruin our good time. They are the Reavers of the dark of our corner of Cyberspace. Methinks the folk on our prestigious site are not of this ilk. I'm still not convinced that what's-his-butt that inspired the Foresaken wasn't just a jackass out for fun and not actually a malicious cretan. Be that as it may, we are capable of polite discourse. And more than capable. We've done it.

"You didn't toast! You know, I'm thinking you're one of them. Independents."
"And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling. So why don't we just ignore each other till we go away?"
"What happened? Was there a terrible brawl?"
"Oddly enough, there was."
"What? I didn't start it. Just wanted a quiet drink."
"Funny, Sir, how you always find yourself in some Alliance-friendly bar come U-Day, looking for a 'quiet drink.'"
"See, this is a sign of your tragic space dementia. All paranoid and crotchety, it breaks the heart."

Are the old-timers staying away in droves? Are the new members afraid of flame wars? I sincerely hope not. But let's not forget, 'tis the Browncoats what had the steely nerve to pull a Crazy Ivan!! Come on folks! They. Are. Only. Merely. Words.

"What are you doing here?"
"Well, you invited me."
"I never thought for a second you'd be stupid enough to come."

(And I not ignoring you Tristan; always a pleasure to get your input. But you know how it is when you get on a roll...momentum, no brakes, somebody stop me!!!)

The beauty of forums is you don't need an invite. Or a reason. How many of us have seen the FutureMrsFillion's backside as she streaks unsummoned through a thread? And hasn't PhoenixRose done sump'n like that too? Drop in. Anytime. Anywhere. And if you don't feel welcome or comfortable, change the channel. Or put on your Browncoat and gear up. Not all of us are Inaras, Books, Zoes or Jaynes (not even Jayne Nelson); not all of us are Washes, Kaylees, Simons or Rivers. Very few of us be Mals even if each of us might think they are. Not all of us are Niskas either, or Patiences or Burgesses, Womacks, Earlies, or Operatives.

Finally, little flock, remember the Words of Walt Whitman:

"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
"Song of Myself", 1855

"Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed passage with you?"
"How beggarly appear arguments before a defiant deed!"
"I am as bad as the worst, but, thank God, I am as good as the best."
"I have learned that to be with those I like is enough."
"I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don't believe I deserved my friends."
"A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books."

Yo, Joss, you read Whitman a lot? Or do great minds just think ali...ehh. Never mind.

"Well, here I am."

I do appreciate your sentiments John. Perhaps if we stopped to think a bit before we go off half cocked and post something we might regret later.

and i will let dead horses lie... but not without a bit more of that fuzzy headed WW, for alas, poor Walt, i knew him well Johnny....(ack..)

WHO is now reading this?

May-be one is now reading this who knows some wrong-doing of my past life,
Or may-be a stranger is reading this who has secretly loved me,
Or may-be one who meets all my grand assumptions and egotisms with derision,
Or may-be one who is puzzled at me.

As if I were not puzzled at myself!
Or as if I never deride myself! (O conscience-struck! O self-convicted!)
Or as if I do not secretly love strangers! (O tenderly, a long time, and never avow it;)
Or as if I did not see, perfectly well, interior in myself, the stuff of wrong-doing,
Or as if it could cease transpiring from me until it must cease.
