good to see all the new and old faces! thank you, ben, for a great time! this was actually the first time i've seen it on the big screen, and it was a different experience. hope the group pic comes out. didja notice the street lights up? loved that! our own personal landing strip!

Oh man, talk about a mighty fine Shindig! I think our 11 PM fan activities went over great. And the turnout - w00t! Ben, how many did we pull in total for both nights?

Awesome to see all the old MR crew and the abundance of local Browncoats. Definitely have to remember to kick off the Shindig at Gullifty's next time we do this - and we WILL be doing it again.

Hope everybody got home safe as I just got home and am about to pass out at the keyboard. (As such, can barely type....) See you all next time!

Hi guys!

What a great time last night. I toyed with the idea of loggin on last night when I got home, but once I turned the car off, I had to drag myself inside. I think I didn't even turn over the whole night I was so tired.

But what a night!

Gullifty's was great. Somehow the reservations that I made wound up being for the whole group, and I hope the poor hostess at Gullifty's wasn't about to pitch a fit. LOL When we arrived, we chatted and waited for everyone and by the time we sat down, the reservation for 8 got doubled... We had our own little corner of Gullifty's and it was perfect. The food was to die for and I had purposely had not eaten dinner. I enjoyed every bite. There were so many names to remember, but I DO remember Mike, two Matts, Lucas, Danita, Anna, Suzanne, Steamer, Aboleyn, Morri, Livlass, and tons others that I'm sorry I can't remember their names. It was really nice to sit down and chat with everyone.

Once dinner was over, we headed over to the theater and packed into the cafe. Ben put on quite a show. Lucas' rendition of Simon in the Jaynestown scene was beautiful. (Go IUP!) The costume contest was a lot of fun, and the Inara was so very pleased to have won. She was adorable! Since Ben had enough prizes, we also had a "Best Jayne's hat" contest, which the guy who had all the Serenity tattoos won. (Of course he had to show his tats off! They were Serenity-themed.) I can't remember who exactly the woman was that won the best story contest, but I think she said she was Lisa Lassek's mom? (editor of Firefly and Serenity)

We all filed outside for a photo of the whole group right in front of the theater with Serenity on their billboard. MalNourished had passed out some really nice cards with a thank you message to Universal and we all held them up. Poor MalNourished and Ben were dodging traffic to get across the street to take the pictures.

Once in the theater, Ben had a few cool trivia questions and some MORE prizes.

I had never seen Serenity in the theater. By the time I realized it had been released, theaters around here had already pulled it. So this was my first time seeing it on screen. I've been avoiding watching it this summer in order to enjoy it more when Sept. 30th rolled around. Seeing it up there really does impress on you how good a movie it really is. I noticed things I didn't before: like Jayne hugging Vera as they passed through reaver space or certain looks that your eyes just pass over when the screen is so small.

I had a wonderful time last night and sharing it with other Browncoats just made it all the better.

hey 'coats:

it was indeed an awesome time. i'll be posting pics as soon as i can. i was very happy to have the film there and i'll be talking to the theater owners about bringing it back...

no guarantees yet, but i think the chances are definitely very good for another anniversary screening next september and, if we can get the rights, possibly some screenings of firefly eps on the big screen in betweem (like this spring)...

i'll always post here in advance with the news.

the #'s ended up being about 70 people friday night and 110 saturday - so thanks so much for coming out everyone!!!

i was sitting across the aisle from a group of bryn mawr girls who i think hadn't seen it before and i had brought three friends who had never seen *any* FF or Serenity. They *loved* it. Had no idea it would be so good...

it was amazing to hear fresh laughter and of course the gasps when *you know what*....

made it like seeing it for the first time again. such a good filom that works so well at getting people's emotions cruising like a rollercoaster.

thanks for the good time people.

i'll be working to do it again...

We also had a great time, but it's going to take me a week to catch up my sleep (I have a 2 year old - no sleeping in any more!!). We live over in NJ, so it was a 45 minute drive - but well worth it!! My husband and 2 friends also had a great time.

It was really interesting seeing the BDM in a theatre with people who had never seen it before. That group of young women in the back clearly were as shocked as I was the first time I saw it.

Looking forward to making the trip over again next year. Thanks so much Ben!!

This seems to be the thread to thank Ben...So I grabed the text from the post I did, and dropped it here...

I'm sure you all know by now that our own Bentor is a manager at the glorious Bryn Mawr Film Institute on Lancaster Avenue. He is a Browncoat who pulled to get a copy of Serenity brought to the his theater last winter. He assured the (owner?) that our BDM would have a good turnout... He was right. The first night it showed, Friday, there were about 75 people there ( is this correct Ben?) and I'm not sure how many came out the next night. Because it was the blizzard of the year and my punk ass stayed home. But I remeber there being a buzz that more people showed up then should have, considering the conditions.Any way the point is, is that the showings did well enough that Ben was able to bring it back again for the anniversary. With that I would like to tell you all about the Saturday night turn out...

I got to Gulifties around 9 o'clock and there were Browncoats-a-plenty. (My Fiancee couldnt make it, but she came the night before, so she gets to keep her coat.) They sat us at about 12 small tables pressed together. Making a twenty foot long tank tread of people. I was a little tardy so when I got there they had to add more tables to the end. I sat with a group of a about six of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I forget names...I stink at names. But we had some food, had some drink and had pleasant conversation on all manner of topics.

Round' 11 we made our way to the coffee house where I met even more great folks...(I gotta tell ya though, I've never met a sucky Browncoat.) I sat at a large round table with more fine individuals whose names I cant remember. But I did sit next to a gentleman who wore the ACCTUAL costume worn by "Take me with you!" guy in our BDM. He bought it from the prop store in London, and favored us with it during the costume contest... I think he should have won, but 2nd place aint so bad. There were scene recreations, Hi-larious. and stories of fandom. One of the people who shared was none other than Lisa Lassik's Mother. She came out to support the project and was more than charming. I could tell she was so proud of her daughter. and why shouldnt she be?...can you name a movie with finer editing? She even cheered when Lisa's name came during the opening credits. Shiny. After The festivities we all marched out onto the sidewalk under the marquee and snapped a couple of group shots for the Bigdamnthankyou website.

Ben ushered us into the theater at just shy of midnight. He did some trivia, I won a copy of the graphic novel for "those left behind" for my trivia prowess (Check out the big brain on Brad!)The snacks there are hella cheap, a tub of corn, a couple of drinks, and some junior mints, set me back only 7 bucks. The Ballad of Serenity led us into our BDM. and I gotta tell ya. theres nothing like seeing such a good movie with a room full of people that love it as much as you do. I'm not sure of the accual numbers, but turn out appeared to be in the niegborhood of 100-125 peole. Not too shabby.

Ben told me that when he gets each copy of Serenity he cleans it, and uses some special film lubricant to preserve it. saving all the copies of the BDM he can, for posterity. So for that, for rallying to get it shown, promoting it, and being the most gracious host possible... Thank-you Ben. I'll see you next year, or sooner if it comes sooner.

He lubricates the film, huh? Suddenly I'm reminded of a steam locomotive accessory called the Nathan Hydrostatic Lubricator. He ever give that a shot?

Man, I'm still ruttin' tired - but I'm tired and happy. I'll say it again, never have I mingled with such a great group of fans as the Browncoats. Here's to many, many more BMFI screenings and Shindigs!
