SISTER

I have been lurking since I first saw Firefly/Serenity this summer. I think I've lurked because I feel so stupid as to have let this marvelous TV show pass me by! In one of the threads Joss said "..I want to invade dreams" and he certainly has accomplished that with me. Luckily I found the 'verse about a week before Dragon*Con and I must admit I had not been to a fan convention of any kind in decades except to report on them (I am currently a newspaper reporter..used to be on TV but that's a long story)..anyway, I just want to say thank you for being here. I check in several times a day. What is it with this great, aching empty longing for more Firefly. It was/is magnificent and I feel as though I missed it and am playing 'catch-up.' Sorry for the ramble; I am "sister" and I am a browncoat.

Welcome to our corner of the 'net 'verse, Sister!

Please let me offer you an Irish whiskey to sip.

There's nothin' to feel stupid about. The important thing is you found FF and here, so no blushes. Also, in many respects, I think rambling is a prerequisite for posting here so no worries there, either.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. *mentally goggles at saying this to a reporter* It's the best way to learn. We also don't mind talking about anything that's been mentioned before. I've found that sometimes having had more time to think on something, my opinion will change anyway, plus with new folks comes the possibility that there will be a new angle on the discussion that hadn't been explored before.

All threads are open to anyone who wants to talk and/or play so don't be put off by the labels. The Forsaken are a nice bunch of folks and anyone can join their ranks for example, and the Par-tay is open 24/7 for your dancing and nibbling convience as is Kelkhil's Pub. (Anyone else I can plug while I'm at it? )

Welcome again! More folks will be around to say 'hi' soon.

Yea! More and more new folks! This is just so shiny!!

Thank You RMMC! Wow, really feeling very welcomed here.
I haven't been able to find a thread I wanted to respond to a few weeks ago; had to do with some writer saying that Firefly would be impossible as horses are much to large and costly to send to the black. Well, I remember long, long ago reading sci-fi novels (Anne McCaffery's 'The Ship Who Sang"? maybe)..where after terraforming or finding worlds that would support our kind of life; useful animals were shipped in embryonic form..and were grown in tanks once the settlers got there. That's been niggling at me for a while so thanks for letting me get it off my mind.
And..no need to blush or mentally giggle about the reporter thing! It's just a job, like plumbing; only plumbers make a better income!
Thank you again for the warm welcome. Do you think Joss would write more Firefly if I offered myself as an indentured servant - or has this been tried before?

Welcome, welcome! You'll find many of us in your shoes--we found the 'Verse late, but that doesn't stop us from calling ourselves Browncoats!

I myself lurked for a long time before I started participating. I don't belong to very many online forums, but this one is a great place to hang!

Take a look in the Blue Sun Room to see just how creative your fellow Browncoats can be--artwork, music videos, fanfiction galore...it's a great place to spend some time and get the "fix" for more Firefly we all crave!

Welcome to the 'Verse, Sister. Someone will likely call you MieMie before long.

This board is a wondrous place full of great folk and great conversation. We're also a bit wacky... which is fun! We love Firefly/Serenity... love to talk about it, and love to dream of more.

you said:
Quote:

You know we all feel it when we get here and it goes on for a long time. After a while some folks think it abates a little, but I'm not sure.. I think perhaps we just get better at living with it. For me.. the ache is still there and I've been here a year now. Sharing the 'Verse with others helps. Hearing the stories that folks tell when they get here helps too. Seeing all you new folks arrive or delurk and talk does it too.
Makes us feel better.

Well, as RMMC said rambling is a prerequisite around here and I've done my share... time to hush.

I give new folks a browncoat... granted it's a virtual one, but it's a gift given with much care and with much warmth. May you come to feel at home here as much as I do.

*hands Sister a browncoat of her very own*

Welcome home, Sister (#23115)
*and* Rainstick (#23226)

It's right shiny to have the both of you aboard
our shiny ship while we do the best we can to
fill that aching void we all feel.

You've been showered (metaphorically) with
drinkables, I see. I usually offer a
dish of strawberries and an invitation to come
on up to the galley to question the buffet.

One of our cooks is working on new batches of
wife soup and bao. Other goodies are on the
table.

As Traveler mentioned, ice-planets are available
-- cooler, bottom shelf. We are down to chocolate
and Borosian ginger again, but I'm off soon to do
a job. ...I mean "re-supply." Heh.

Please try not to step on ShipsCat or into her
dish.

(And if you've an itch to write, just do it.)

Ohhhh, we've tried every gorramn thing.

Seems like the only thing that's gonna work, is what is happening now. When folks see Firefly or Serenity, they fall in love.

Hera and I were talking about this last night. I currently like Heroes, she currently likes Stargate:Atlantis.. both excellent shows! But.....

they aren't Firefly

It has a magic to it, a spell casting quality that is way different than most other things in life, except maybe falling in love. That's what I always tell folks it's like, it's like falling head over heels in love.

So, when folks fall in love, they invariably end up here and aching as you've so eloquently shown us. Then they want more. More of us wanting more there are, the more likely we're going to be to get more. Well.. you know what I mean.

Well I thougt I would jump on this thread and introduce myself too. I joined about a week ago and have just been lurking, trying to read past posts and get a feel for the site. My story is just about the same as everyone else here. Joined up with the Browncoats late, and became a lifer from day one. My problem is that I know no Browncoats irl. I almost have one of my employees hooked (loaned him my DVD's) so cross your fingers for another Browncoat in the making. Anyway this is me on the raggedy edge, and I'm glad I found this place.

Welcome, Sister and Forge. It's always exciting to hear of ppl that are new to the 'Verse. It means our numbers are growing.

Sister, the ache that you are feeling for more Firefly doesn't really go away, but it becomes more hopeful as you find more and more Browncoats. We know more will be coming. We just have to continue to spread the word.

Forge, the best way to find Browncoats in real life is to continue to share your DVDs. As FollowMal said that way you will have a close knit group of Browncoats that you like.

If you ever need anything, just get on the Cortex and send us a wave. There is always someone around.

No problem. I never had a problem with the horses either. Unless you're using solar powered items (which are costly to make and take up valuable resources) using horses makes a lot of sense. Most of the Alliances' "spare" (eg: non-core necessary) resources seem to go towards terraforming and beefing up their military. Horses go farther, don't take up fuel needed for ships and if all else fails, can be food. You can't eat a hovercraft.

To find threads use Google. Type the thread name or some other key word(s) from it and then type "site:fireflyfans.net" and you should be able to find it that way.

I don't know if it's been tried, but I think his wife would have a number of things to say as would his mother. Joss wants to write more FF. But, he needs financial backing and that's not about at the moment. I keep thinking that if I won the MegaMillions jackpot when it hits over $100 million....

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome aboard Sister! Glad to have you here with us.

Don't you dare feel "stupid" for not catching the show before now. The fact that you are here now is what matters.

Be sure to spread the word. Share the series and more importantly the movie with everyone you know. We need to get new people interested and buying dvds if we are to have any hope of getting the story continued.

Welcome here, we're weird.

Of course you know that by now.

Quote:

I think I've lurked because I feel so stupid as to have let this marvelous TV show pass me by!

Too late to do anything about it, but there was no need. The fact that you missed it for a long time gives me hope. It means that new fans are out their waiting to be found, waiting to find Firefly. It means that there's a vast untapped group out there that, if tapped, might make our numbers enough for Universal to consider another movie. It means that all we need to do is have a little hope, a lot of faith, and spread the word.

It means that I go off on a tangent totally unrelated to the topic at hand.

Quote:

I just want to say thank you for being here.

I want to say thank you for coming, I wish I said it to every new person but I never seem to think of it. That obviously isn't going to happen this time:

Thanks for giving Firefly or Serenity a chance when so many others ignored it, thank you for coming here and meeting us, thank you.

Quote:

What is it with this great, aching empty longing for more Firefly.

That's what reminds you what it was, and what it meant. No one mourns the loss of something unworthy of notice, no one cares when they lose a thing that didn't matter. When you feel pain it means you cared. When something made you care enough for that longing to last on and on it means you must have experianced something profoundly good.

It's a morbid thought, but that great, aching longing is how you really know that this was something worthy of praise, something to be cherished, something that was somehow worth it.

Quote:

Sorry for the ramble; I am "sister" and I am a browncoat.

Never appologize for sharing your thoughts with us (unless you think something really nasty), that's what the board is for.

-

Anyway, I think I've gone on for longer than you, and others have already welcomed you, you already know what I'm about to say, but this is what I say, this is what I do, because to me the board being here is about more than the show we all lost or the pain we all share, it's about the fact that the people here, even though we can disagree on things as basic as the nature of reality, care. You come here and you are welcomed with open arms because you are a part of a family.

Welcome home.
