I was asking the question how many browncoats are there over on the fireflytalk forum. Its a long story a friend I'm trying to convert asked me how many browncoats are there? Ok its a short story. Anyway erico pointed me over here saying the FFF is one of the most popular boards and that there are about 25,000 people registered. Is that true? Is this the best estimate of worldwide browncoat numbers?

Hi, laoshi!
There are over 23,000 browncoats registered here, and more arriving every day.
There are other boards, and there are dedicated forums at still other boards. And remember: not all boards are English-language boards.
Some 'coats are registered at more than one board; some are not.
Some 'coats don't do the fan-board thing at all.
I don't know why it would be important to a prospective fan how many of us there were. The show is good, or it isn't -- right?
I'd watch it even if I thought nobody else liked it.

HOWEVER -- if it's really that big a deal:
You can be darn sure there are more than 25,000 browncoats worldwide.

LAOSHI,hello

As FloralBunny says there are thousands. Some are registered on this board some on other boards and some may be registered on several boards. There are some on other boards that are fan forums for other tv shows(as in Smallville). There is a Joss section on that forum board that has threads about all of his creations (FF included). There are many, many browncoats. I would say that for every browncoat registered on a FF fan forum there are 50 that just don't join fan forums at all and 100s that aren't even aware that we are here. Top that off with thousands that really enjoyed the show and would love to see more only the humm-drum of daily life has them chasing the dollar with little time to stop and sip the mudders milk.

So there you have it. We are strong. We are many. We have the power and the entertainment ppl know that we are here. That's the best answer that you can give your friend.

Z,out

I'd say there are approximately five billion Browncoats.

Unfortunately, most of them don't know it yet.

Thanks guys i'll tell him that the exact number doesn't matter we all care too much about the series for it not to live on. It's just I'm trying to convert him slowly. it has to be slowly because I don't have access to Firefly DVD's at the moment and he wasn't blown away by the BDM. But then neither was I. I had to go back and watch the series before I could appreciate the film.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

How many, how many... Well, in addition to the answers already given, I'd have to say that each Browncoat may appear to have the energy and enthusiasm of two or three regular fans (and, for the ultra-Browncoats, I'd say 9 or ten regular fans for one of them).

In the end, it's about quality, not quantity.

If there are 23,000registered here (WOW)then it should be a safe bet that we can effectively double, or even triple that number, and that might still be conservative in measure.

laoshi, while it is true that many browncoats were brought into the 'Verse by seeing the movie
first, I'd argue that the best way to start is via the series, beginning with the pilot.
Some have been so put off by the movie that they have deprived themselves of the warmth and humor of the series.
A cryin' shame, I'd call it.

I know I would start with the Series but what I'm saying is I can't find a Firefly DVD in China so I'm having to make do without. Any suggestions?

Welcome Laoshi! I think if you can find some Australians or New Zelanders, you maybe could work a deal,...they buy it, and send it to you....and you pay them. We in America can't get Region 2 DVDs, my knowledge is very small on this,...there are experts on this board. Keep posting and hopefully someone here has more ideas for you! Can I ask where you are in China?

Hi. I had the same problem. I'm in South Africa and couldn't find the series here. So finally I tried amazon.co.uk. They sell region 2 dvd's. And they deliver world wide. The conversion rate between pounds and South African Rand was a bit steep, but the dvd's were still not too expensive. And they're very trustworthy. So I would advocate buying online from them. Trust me, it is really worthwile.

I guess i will have to go hunting for some Australian Browncoats. I wonder would Australian sites accept a British Credit card? Also I'm pretty sure China isn't region 2. Americas are Region 1 Europe Mid East and Africa are Region 2 and Asia/Oceniana are Region 3. I mean I'm British so I already had region 2 DVD and every English/European person I've met has said they didn't bring any because they don't work here. To answer your question I'm in a city called Chongqing. It's a municipality like Washington DC or Greater London it has its own little area and isn't in a Province. Southwest China is the best description. There's Tibet then east of Tibet is Sichuan then us. Were on the Yangtze River, which everyone here just calls Chang Jiang, the Long River.

laoshi, I know there are Region 3 browncoats who
post here. If you can't order R3 DVDs from Amazon or one of the other internet sites, why
not put up a thread titled "Region 3 DVDS Needed -- Can You Help Me Out?" and then we can keep it
bumped until it works.
