Interesting scenarios on the return of Wash. Now for those in denial(like myself), what would you suppose the circumstances of Wash's return be? I've run a few ideas through my head.

Scenario 1:
The crew is once again faced with a Reaver attack, and are as in Serenity, fighting for their lives. But this one is none too usual as one of the Reavers is recognizeable to us. It's Wash. He apparently had survived(I still have not worked out any possible way he could have survived so I'll omit that detail)and was made into a Reaver like the guy on Bushwhacked. Now orignally I thought that he would have to rerealize his humanity via Zoe and Mal and rejoin the crew. Or they would have to shoot him which only leaves me queasy.

Scenario 2:
A much less thought out one. The crew has to land on a core planet to refuel and the likes. And find that their old pilot has taken a new identity as an Alliance pilot working on a shipping cruiser or something of the such with no memory of his previous life.

Now I know these are cheesy and ruin the total effect of him dying but it is entertaining to think how one of my most beloved charactes would be reintroduced into the 'Verse were there to be more expansion upon it.
Edit:
On a side note, I personally believe they should bring Wash and Book back in the form of the crew's consciences.

Scenario 3:

Mal or one of the others are kidnapped by the Hands of Blue to gain info on river Tam. Wash is also held prisoner in the same facility.

However if Joss did this Wash would poribably be kept alive artificially, just to have him killed again.

I like all of yours, but I don't really have a creative enough mind to think of any...
This one though:

Wash as a reaver??!! Oh, no! I guess it would make as a good story, but I just can't see him being reaver-y!

Yah. Just Wash's head. Connected to a little box with two little feet and two little arms. Like Mr. Potatohead...

The Hands of Blue were killed in Those Left Behind. That's why the Operative was deployed to catch them in the movie and they were nowhere to be found.

Scenerio 4:
I have to give credit to my brother 6isStringJack on this as it's based off his idea.
Wash was badly hurt (obviously) when the Reaver's attacked but they didn't eat him because they thought he was dead. When the Alliance landed they found Wash and rushed him to the main ship to give him medical treatment while supressing the Reavers. Because of the pandemonium created by the Reavers, it never came up that Wash was a survivor taken from Serenity rather than just a wounded troop. He was logged as an injured Alliance soldier and treated as such until he came to months later and was dropped off on a core world.

To me, there are only two plausible scenarios: either Wash comes back in flash-backs (ala Out of Gas; where the scenes can pretty much last as long as Joss wants); or he makes some sort of psychic link with River (a bit more cheesy). The first option I find the most likely -- Wash somehow being kept alive in a high-tech Reaver medical facility, not so much. :)

There were supposed to be more than one set of HoB 'til the casting staff hired the same pair for Ariel without Joss' prior knowledge.

However looking in the Serenity Visual companion, I must say that Wash actually being alive is slim. That spike in the artists impressions is huge.

The only saving grace is that Joss did film it similar to how he filmed Dobson's death in the pilot episode 'Serenity'.

TERRI

Okay:

Scenario 6(?, I forgot what number):

They're all on the ship, and everybody's like, yeah, hey, how's it going? And you know, chatting it up and stuff, and the door opens and it's Wash and Book's right behind him. And they're like, "I'm okay!" And everybody's freaking out, and the crew's all like, how did that happen, you guys were dead. And then Wash and Book are like, "Meh." And then they all go out for hot chocolate.

Anything that beats that out, as being the most structurally sound I will accept as well.

TAKEMEFLYING

After watching Serenity, I spent hours of semi-lucid sleeplessness for nights and nights imagining round and round to find a way to bring Wash back.
The Alliance/Hands of Blue/other sinister covert group snatch and fixing him was definitely the most likely one to come to mind. And then (cause I'm an evil angsty sort) of course, someone starts sending first stills and then vid to Zoe (gettin' rounded with Jr ) of unconscious/confused Wash, and rescue time occurs... I'm sure mad complications would ensue... And then I decided to let Joss do the thing he does so well! If what I've seen rumored about regarding Alan's contract, we can trust that there will be more joy for we Wash-lovers.

Wash coming back i can take (Happily) as he was never checked by a doctor just by Zoe and Mal, and assuming he was gone by the time they got back, they assumed the reavers took him but he was in a govt facility etc.. but they can't bring Book back, he is dead and was checked by Simon (Who would not make a mistake like that)

ZEPH

Personally, I see a better chance of Wash surviving his wound than Dobson.

To quote another thread: "Steering column!"

People have survived both massive trauma to the torso and bullets to the face that "should" have killed them. However, more have survived the former than the latter. Considering the range of Mal's shot, and assuming a decent-sized caliber of pistol (not that I know what caliber Mal's pistol is, but would surmise a big, manly .45 or better), Dobson would have lost a lot more than an eye. If his survival is canon, then medical science in the 'Verse is pretty darned impressive.

Plus, I stand by my theory that if -- as we all hope -- the franchise continues, and some money-person insists that the entire original cast returns, then Wash's "miraculous" survival is assured.

PIRATECAT

Well this is easy. You got tv, scifi, and the future bring el washio back is easy as lyen. Ok their is 2 months between objects in space and serenity the motion picture with a comic book episode in their somewhere. We can make 1 month before the comic strip a complete season and then another season after with wash doing his stick. Personally Shepherd Book is my favorite wash not so much. Ok this is how we do it, wash and Zoe go to Hawaii for their honeymoon flashback, Zoe bathing wash watching her bath on Borros. Not to forget the xmas special where Shepherd Book and wash fly into whitefall with toys for tots to give to the orphans from Reaver troubles while Mal, Zoe, and Jayne have a plan to rob Patience of course it goes south. Second season we have more A team stuff with wash acting like mad dog murdock. Hell more luv scenes with Zoe, soft porn stuff. Shepherd Book marries them officially on their 1 year wedding anniversary. Now when we go back into the fourth season wash is a ghost around the ship who talks to Zoe in her cabin during private times. Also Shepherd Book would be the narrator of the new episodes and also Mal's concience. Just remember its in the script.

Come on wash ya dumn ass dodge em!

Or Joss could just do another movie ala Kenny from South Park. Completely forget the fact that Wash and Book were killed in the previous installment and shoot the movie like nothing ever happened.

And just for the hell of it, kill them again in a more creative way.

Ok browncoats,

500 years into the future, where men that wear blue gloves and can reduce you to a pile of bloody pulp with what looks to be a pencil with two pins sticking out of its ends, and a seventeen year old girl can kick ass better that Bruce Lee. Wash coming back as a regenerated member of Serenity's crew ( however he does it) should be no big deal.

I think any of the senerios presented can happen. I especially like the "Wash as a reaver" idea. That would be a hoot and has all kinds of twists and turns it can take.

Keep 'em coming,Z

The Reaver idea could be good, in a conflict with some reavers river could read them and find wash, the crew could go after him (Jayne would object as too dangerous) they complete a daring rescue and then between River (Mentally) and Simon (physically) they could fix him up.

now I wish I could write some decent fanfic!!

I agree with Piratecat...a movie with an adventure prior to Serenity (BDM) would make sense. There's even a precedent for that...."Cowboy Bebop the Movie" takes place between past television episodes even though the end of the series pretty much quashed the main character.

Another Scenario...River's psychic abilities grow, and she's able to communicate with Wash/Book in some fashion. That, coupled with "out of gas" style flashback's, could provide some storyline for both characters.

MARCPASQUIN

technically human

Personnaly I think the "flashback" theory is the most plausible. Baring that, here's a few other ones:

- Mal hires Bash, Wash never-mentioned-before twin.

- An ionic storm open a gateway to another universe from where steps-in Evil Wash.

- It wasn't realy Wash that died on Haven but a robot he had been replaced with months ago after having been kidnapted by Nishka.

- Wash is seen hanging out with Zoe. No explanation is given until that night when he vamp out.

- A blood samples of wash is taken from the cockpit (must have been oodles of the stuff) and send to a laboratory where Walsh 2.0 is cloned.

- Distraught with grief, begins to see Wash. Is this only an hallucination brought on by stress or something more sinister ?

- Zoe wakes up screaming and turns to Wash who soot her by asking "was it that nightmare where I get impaled again". We then hear his toughts on how creepily freudian that spike thing sounds to him.
