Repost from previous thread:

CMH - I am a big fun of the free love idea, and am even in favor of the group marriages he uses in several of his other novels.

MSG sorry to hear about the fighting yesterday.

Magdalena - Hey you. Having a shiny evening ???

EDIT: Tristan, good morning yourself. :)

Morning, RIMG! I got your email and responded. That's usually the most reliable way to get in touch with me...except when it decides to quit working...
Anyhow, good morning!

Tristan - another costumy question : did you make any other parts of your Mal/Browncoat outfit, or did you just put pieces together that you bought elsewhere ???

Magda - I am good, though feeling tired, sickish, and a bit anti-social. Long day ahead, gotta work until 11 or so tonight. :-\

Good Mornning, Everyone-

Tristan's horrible weather in Alabama has made it to Maryland. It's a nasty, wet, windy day!

RIMG- I actually know a woman who has two husbands. They call it a Triad Marriage. I've never really nosed around to ask how it came to be that she is married to two men. They have been married for over 5 years. She was a co-worker of mine at my previous job, and through conversation came to realize she lived with two men. Then, I realized she was married to both...one a legal marriage, the other a committment ceremony.

I have trouble enough keeping track of one husband, let alone two.

Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!

Mornin' Mav.

I actually think that it sucks that polygamy is illegal, but I like the idea of a commitment ceremony in liu of a legal marriage to keep it within those bounds.

I think that two major factors to be successful in such a relationship, or the one I mentioned, is trust, and a complete lack of jealousey.

RIMG, as far as my Mal costume...I made the Browncoat, the suspenders, and the holster. The belt and pants were purchased online, the shirt is a modified dress shirt, and the boots I built over an old pair of shoes. I did add the brown stripe to the side of the pants, but it's not quite right...I'm still happy with it, though. So, it's about half-built, half "found". I hope that makes sense. I have tons of pictures of everything, but I won't put them up in here...if you are interested, I'll post some of them in the picture thread. Let me know!

Mavourneen, morning! And sorry the storm made it there. It got nasty over here for awhile. I suggest lots of coffee and a warm place to be.

I had a hard enough time with one wife...I could not imagine being in the opposite situation and having two wives! Oy! Although....no, that's just a bad thought...

I concur with Mav...more coffee is needed!

RIMG, I agree. I've said it before; I've always believed that whatever two (or more) consenting adults wants to do with or to each other is okay by me...as long as it doesn't involve children or animals.
Children and animals cannot consent, and that is the key.

Why does the Government think they know what's best for me in my bedroom?

EDIT: Coffee? Check.
Warm place to be? well, not my first choice, but Check.
Computer, Net connection, and friends? Check.

Tristan - I will probably get annoying in asking you all kinds of things to complete my Browncoat/Monty costume for D*C. Jayne will be a bit easier, some cargo pants and a shiny t-shirt or two.

Mav - What is the gov't doing in your bedroom? Do you need to call some pest control service. I though you knew to keep your money in an airtight container so they can't catch the scent.

RIMG- Hugs so sorry you're feeling icky

Mavoureen- I have more than enough trouble seeing to one husband, can't really see what two of them would get you except more laundry, cooking, cleaning, ironing ect.

The play was a reasonably decent version of Pride and Prejudice though Tristan the costumes ( male ) would have appalled you. They went way too far on Darcy's coat shoulder pads you couldn't see his head most of the time and he had a vaguely turtle like quality.

MSG - Thanks for the hugs, and good morning yourself. The reason I like the idea of a group marriage (say, 4 men and 4 women) is that there are several people who can work (assume one very large house instead of 4 regular ones, cuts down costs) while several are able to split up the child rearing and housework (note that I did not specify genders for any of the above tasks, as those who are suited to each thing will do them). Also, in the event of a divorce, say one female leave the marriage, she only can take 1/8 of the total value of the group instead of 1/2, making it more stable (the downside is in determining custody of the children, where as there are 8 people in the marriage, it only took 2 to make the child). Again, trust and lack of jealousy are the most important things.

Morning, MSG- I understand and am with you. More husbands equals more work...but heck, she's happy and I guess it works for them.

Maybe I'd rather have more work in my life if I was truly in love with two people and couldn't choose just one, rather than giving up one and hurting him (and me)to be with the other.

I wish I knew more of the backstory on this; I don't.

Magda - I don't get hungover. Maybe 3 times of all the times I have gotten drunk enough to (not even after a quart of Jack Daniels consumed in 5 hours time at D*C this year, just really hungry). Regardless, I don't really drink on weeknights because waking up to get to work at 6 kinda puts a damper on it. I am so very glad to know that you will take care of me, and you'll be certain to get plenty of bear hugs in return. I think it is just the remnants of the flu plus working three 18 hours days in a row every week Wed-Fri.

Oh - and I must say sorry if I haven't replied to anyone who's emailed me in the last 24 hours - as you'll notice I am having 'issues' with it...

MSG - I understand it not being your kind of thing, and actually, most people I talk to about it (remember where I live) are violently opposed to even thinking about it and will let me know that. Then again, maybe I read (and wish life was life) too much science fiction. It probably won't ever happen, as finding enough willing people who are interested and understand all the nuances of it is be tricky enough, not to mention that actually practicing it would not go nearly as well as the abstract thought of it.

Still, one can hope.

Aaahhhh, yay for liquid painkillers.

Don't feel terrible for suggesting it, it was a valid question.

I have only had a problem mixing drinks (and one of my 3 hangovers) one time, and it was five different things: Jack Daniels, DiSaranno Amaretto, Bacardi 151, Absolut Vodka, and Rolling Rock beer. Yeesh.

Mavourneen...be sure there is plenty of coffee.

MSG, thank you for the visual! Turtle-Darcy! Hehehehe.

Magda, my qing ren, always!

I still don't know about the communal thing. Up until the breakdown of this last marriage, I was never a jealous person..flirting, etc. never bothered me, but the fact that she fell in love with someone else, well, that was the part that got to me. So, if it was a situation where there were definite pairings with the ocassional "rotation", I'd be alright with it.
This merits further thought, I think...

No coffee for you! It's too late in the night/early in the morning! Enjoy Tristan & I downing cups for you by proxy.

MSG- I agree- I don't know if I could do the Triad ( or more ) group marriage thing either. I'm painfully monogamous; always have been. Guess my point is, it takes all kinds, and if that's for you...go for it. I'm not to say what is right or wrong for someone else.

But just think...twice (or more)the burps/farts?
the underwear? the mess in the kitchen after a late night snack? the impulse buying of toys (guns, paintball guns, RC cars...you get the pic)?

Much love to the boys out there..but one crazy Welshman is enough for me!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I thought/fantasized about being in a three-way relationship before I started trying to have relationships. For one thing, I don't tend to fall for another person when I have someone to be with, and for another, it can be hard enough building (and maintaining) a connection with ONE person, let alone two (or more). I still don't rule out the possibility, but I find it much less likely now.
And, uh, I would want to have another woman around, probably...

RIMG - I've known several people who weren't opposed to group relationships, and actually, I've known even more two person relationships that were non-exclusive. I mean, the people loved each other, but they decided it'd be best if they could engage with other people.

Personally, I am way too jealous for that. My last girlfriend used to fuck with me by telling me how she saw a cute guy around base or how she wanted to fuck some celebrity. Irked me like no other. I used to call people out if I thought I saw them checking her, or even my first girlfriend, out in public. I even went and found/made up a reason to rumble with this dude at a re-enactment because a girl I liked was in to him.

Yeah, I know, I need help. I've just decided to stay away from relationships. I'm no good at them and too immature to handle them.

Ok. For starters, the pieces you bought, did you do something generic like look for them on eBay, or are there particular websites you went to to get the most authentic pieces you could.

And on the further thought, I am glad I have provided someing for people to talk about. :)

RIMG, the pants I found at Wild West Mercantile (they are a high-waisted kind), the belt is an East German something-or-other from a random website that escapes my memory right now (but matched Mal's almost perfectly)... But I did research on the costume through this and other sites, and studying all sorts of photos. I have a tendency to go a bit overboard at times, and this was one of them. I was not able to find suspenders that looked right, so I built them...including the metal pieces in the front and the leather loops. Same thing with the boots...the ones for the show were built over a particular type of shoe that I could not get ahold of, so I used an old pair of my shoes, and just went nuts with leather.
So, if you decide to go for a Mal, let me know, I'll send you all the links I used (if I can find them!)...if it's Monty, let me watch Trash again and get a good idea of what you'll need.

Ok, sorry...what were we talking about?

Oh yeah - pondering... sorry about that!

I don't think for a moment I could contemplate such a relationship for myself - I mean we all fantasize about such things but in all honesty... No Way! I am one of those people who wears my heart on my sleeve... I would perceive little nuances in the changine relationships as indications that I was not worthy, or was being passed over... I would get terribly jealous - well maybe not jealous, but I would be hurt rather easily and that would spell disaster! No it takes lots of time, attention and commitment to make a one-on-one relationship work so, I just wouldn't have the time, energy or self-esteem to even attempt such an arrangement...

night sweet Magda

Tristan - I think I will definitely be going for the Monty look, or generic Browncoat soldier. I got an e-mail from a chat buddy (Reignphoria) who is completely obsessed with many of the costumey and scenery details of the show (he is a graphic artist) and gave me a pretty detailed list of things to put together such a costume. I think I should dig it up and look over it again. Thanks for the tips so far!

EDIT: Tristan, I am the opposite of you when it comes to jealousy. I have recently been able to get rid of it after years of being one of the most jealous people around.

RIMG, the Independent Soldier outfit is the next thing I will be working on! I'm hoping to make a decent-looking cloth coat and the red vest to sell, assuming mine works out well. I'd love to have half-a-dozen or so Independents marching in the parade. My ultimate goal is to outnumber the 501st (Stormtroopers), but small steps to start with.

Ok, so how crazy am I? I am going through the archives and getting the URLs for all our past ponderances. Might make an index thread al la Forsaken.
You know, I think we used to have much more interesting conversations. Not to say y'all aren't interesting, but we seem to have covered everything in the months we've been pondering. It's fun to read those really early threads (most of them) and see where we were then and where we are now. A lot has changed.
And hey, there never used to be such a thing as TMI; what happened to that? I realized much of what I posted way back then was almost (if not quite) as TMI as the big TMI post of a few threads ago, and no one batted an eye then, including me. What happened?
We've also lost a few ponderers. I miss them.

See, I view them as representitive of The Alliance (because there most likely will not be anyone there in a Purplebelly uniform) and they definitely have superior numbers. I liked pissing them off at D*C. I saw a couple of them that were somewhat short, so I said "Aren't you a little short to be a Stormtrooper?" He got all sarcastic through his little helmet mic and stated that he had never heard that before. I could practically hear his eyes rolling through the helmet. Still, lots of fun to upset them.

EDIT: There is no such thing as TMI to me. There is nothing I can see or read that will shock me, and I don't make a fuss about what anyone else wants to write. The underage factor doesn't really concern me, as there is much worse in TV, movies, and games.

When you develop an impression of someone based on a few comments they made and things you believe to be true, can you ever truly get past that?? Can you ever see them in a different light, especially if you started out with a very negative impression...could you fall in love??

I have found that for the most part, my first impressions of a person tend to stick as long as I know them, but I have on occasion changed my views. It would take a lot of time, and some pretty convincing evidence, but it has happened a couple of times.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I'm up to "Guess What? I Lost Count!" and am just going through to the next one linked at the bottom. Might have been easier to backtrack, but I wanted to start at the beginning because I have OCD like that!

I have yet to have someone prove my first impression of them wrong when it was negative. Sometimes I have a positive first impression and that is proven wrong (to my great sorrow) but not really the other way around...

Dude, sign me the fuck up. I'm a Caledonian Milidh, a Maryland Loyalist, ex-2/5th SFG B Co., and I wanna add Browncoat to that list. Someone here was talking about making an SCA equivilent of the Verse' a while back, which I still think would kick ass.

But hey, I've done zero looking in to any of the written stuff Mr. Whedon's done. Is the term "Browncoat" in reference to the entire independent army, or just a certain brigade/battalion/planet of independence fighters? And what planets were independent? Sorry to ask so many thing that I could probably find out by researching, but I got a bad habit of getting sidetracked and not getting the questions I want answered.

I love the whole environment of the independence wars. From what I saw in the series, it looked very WW2 based, all the way down to the C-rations. I'd love to learn more about it.

RIMG - Heh heh, I laughed about you pissing off the 501st. I try to resists to urge to make fun of geeks having been on the receiving end so much of my life, but sometimes... it's just too much fun, ain't it?

MSG - Thank you, you are sweet.

RIMG..."Little short to be a Stormtrooper" Yeah, I like that!

PR, you have gotten further back than I have been able! Thank you for doing that. Do you have plans to create an index?

CMH, the Browncoats were the Independent Army...it came to represent those still not attached to the Alliance....living in their world, but not part of it. Make sense? I see being a Browncoat as being a bit out in the black from 'normal' society.
As far as creating the Independent Army, I am not the first to have the idea, but I think I may be the first costumer to have the idea. And I am looking forward to creating the uniform!
You think you can make it to D*C, or is that not something that you would be interested in, CMH?

Yeah, geeks making fun of geeks is kind of a weird concept, but the 501st seem to have it coming. Even the guys who made DragonConTV would rag on them in the bumps they had between skits. I like Tristan's idea of eventually outnumbering them.

As far as I am aware, the BrownCoats are the entire Independent army, the brown coat being the only thing they could all find/afford while the Alliance all had identical armor/uniforms. For finding out anything more detailed, I would recommend the Firefly Visual Companion, which I do not own yet, but have heard very good things about.

I was gonna make it this year, but something came up last minute. I forget what it was, but I was seriously fuckin blown when it happened.

I don't know, I've been to one Convention before, and I missed Mick Foley by half an hour. Didn't really have a great time... but it wasn't that bad, either. If I was more sure about some BDH's coming, I'd be more sure about coming myself.

Why do you ask?

Hi there Tristan, MSG, PR , RIMG, and everyone I probably rudely forgot ( sorry) . How are things in your parts of the verse ?

Good question about first impressions.
I'm horrible at judging most people.I tend to give evryone way too much credit at first.I'm very much like kaylee in that way. I like to think the best of everyone & unfortunately am usually disappointed.
But I'm much better at it when theres romance involved. I can spot a player a mile away . go figure.

And I couldn't ever think of another husband, at least at the same time as this one. One crazy man is plenty for me.

Anyway I just popped in to say howdy ,as I'm off to go into the rain and retrieve my son from school.

hey LA29,

My world is decently shiny today, I am going home in a little over half an hour. Gotta work other job though, so tiredness will be a factor.

Good luck in the rain, we have it here too. You aren't in Columbus County, NC, are you? I hear they have it really bad there.

Yeah, I might start an index thread when I get all the addies. Would be nice if you posted it at the start of each imponderable thread, so I could get back and edit it. If you want to start it, that's fine, too. I can just send you my list when I'm done.

And oh look I'm still awake. Isn't this shiny?

RIMG, it would be an awesome sight...hundreds of Independents marching side-by-side, waving at the Stormtroopers as we went by. Hehehe!

CMH, I ask because I think you would have a good time. A lot of us will be there, and probably at least some of the BDH's. Besides them, there are a large number of Browncoats to bum around with.
I am really looking forward to meeting the people I missed last year, especially RIMG, and I would also like to be able to meet you face-to-face...figured that would be a good place to do it. It would also add another member to the Independents in the parade!

LA29! :hugs: How've you been?
If you change your mind about crazy men, let me know.

PR, that would indeed be shiny! I don't want to take credit for all the work you did, though. So there would be two links at the start of each page...to the previous thread and to the index. I like that idea!
