Recently I've found myself involuntarily quoting Firefly and Serenity. I was just wondering if I'm the only freak who does this or if I'm not alone. I'm still at the early stages of liking the show (if you read my profile you'll see it says I've only been into it for 3 months), so maybe it's just a phase? I don't mind it, it makes me laugh but I'm starting to creep out some of my friends. If anyone has any insight please let me know.

No, your're not alone. This is a primary symptom of something we all like to call "being a Browncoat". No worries, my friend.

Sorry. It may be creepifying and all, but it will never go away. You will be doing it on your death bed.

Quoting Firefly and Serenity is the norm on this site. Those outside of the 'Verse don't always understand, so we need to educate them.

my husband constantly calls me a nerd for mentioning anything Firefly/Serenity. i tend to change phrases every few weeks. right now i'm into saying "be on your merry."

it really drives my hubby nuts when I sing "Hero of Canton" really loud in the shower.

whats really funny is that this is so not my character. i dont really even like sci-fi or westerns very much but this show has got me unbelieveably hooked. and i doesnt look like i'll be stopping anytime soon.

Well I feel better that there are more of us but still I mean it's INVOLUNTARY. Sometimes I even bend the quote to fit the situation. I also tend to recite the theme song at least once a day, but I think that's just bein' true to the coat if you know what I mean (which you probably don't). Oh well what can you do

This is a problem?

I've found it's pretty normal for all us browncoats, and actually inherent for anyone who gets hooked on any of Joss's shows (including Buffy and Angel).

Gomithrous, I don't think I've seen you before, but then I'm not here much lately due to other circumstances, so please let me welcome you with a nice beverage. I have hot chocolate or Irish whiskey depending on your preference. Welcome to our bit of the internet 'verse!

Oh actually I'm new so you're probably not the only one wondering who the hell I am . I actually just wrote my first fanfic today (I'm very proud). I personally see nothing wrong with the quoting thing (I think it's quite funny) it's just that my friends think I'm weirder than they already thought I was and that is not so good.

Congrats on the new fic! That's very shiny!

Ah, I misunderstood. I don't have that problem with my friends; they always knew I was weird and just ignore it when I go all Brown-quotey.

Welcome again to our 'verse.

I don't often quote, but I use "shiny" on a daily basis, to the annoyance of my parents and non-Browncoat friends.

Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: Oh God, of God, we're all going to die?

No freaks here. I regularly use "shiney" and "the situation is always...fluid", my motorcycle's name is Vera. It's not the internet, it's the cortex. I don't email, I send a wave. Perfectly normal to me.

Yeah, the quoting is just the beginning...
Pretty soon you'll be using Chinese swears, singing the Fruity Oaty bars song, and getting freaked out whenever someone is wearing blue gloves.

I'm fairly certain that all of us here are indeed freaks.

Are you kidding? Quoting Firefly at work is the only thing that keeps me going. But the game is, it has to be an appropriate quote, exactly fitting the situation. "Smelling a lot of 'if' coming off this plan" is one that seems to come up, or "it's damaged goods, anyway".

I seemed to have picked up shindig and the phrase 'is all' from Firefly. Sometimes I say things like I just wish I hadn't used the tomatoes is all when I'm speaking to my husband.

little phrases pop out all the time, especially 'shiny' and 'wife soup' (with variations on the latter for whatever dinner I have in front of me!)

Somebody here mentioned that they named their motorcycle "Vera" and it just reminded me of this. I play the electric bass aand I'm getting a new one next year. It's gonna be a black Ibanez EDB 400, and I'm gonna get a bullett strap for her and name her "Vera" too

Shindig, 'is all', shiny, the occasional Chinese swear - things like that - pop out all the time, even out in public.

My bike is called firefly, but only as I have already nicknamed my Car Serenity (She's old and falling apart but is so pretty) as for the quotes I try and use them as much as possible and to hell with what others think, The ballard of Serenity is my usual cleaning up humming tune.

Quoting Joss' shows can come in very handy! Not many people I work with watch Buffy or Angel or Firefly, so they never get the references when I speak. But instead of being thought of as a weirdo I have a reputation for being really, really funny.

It happened at my last job too. Everyone I worked with thought I was this undiscovered comedy genius when really I was just quoting one-liners from Mutant Enemy shows all the time.
