Up at 4am home at 9:45pm...I think we need a thread to vent about our schedules. I love my life, it's the schedule I hate. I went back to school to go from LPN to RN. I am continuing to work full time. I am dead right now. I mean there has got to be a better way! How's yours?

*edit*
I can't do it on line.

Hey Kane. I have no responsibilities other than rent and a few bills, so I gotta do some work. I work 12 hours shifts at nights, so I have 3 and 4 day weekends alternating. All that free time sounds great, but I manage to waste it all. If I didnt' play guitar and wasn't getting good at it these last 3 years I would have absolutly nothing to show for all that time squandered.

I know firsthand that having a full schedule blows so I don't do it. But having an empty schedule with no responsibility blows too. Grass is always greener. Now I've got plenty of time to worry about the world's problems, so even though I should have a pretty stress free life in my situation, I'm probably one of the most stressed out people that I know.

If it's in you to do it than keep it up. You'll be a whole lot more productive than I'll ever be. I got laid off from a job 6 years ago and took 9 months off of work collecting unemployment.... since then I've lost any inertia I had. I do what I have to do to get by, but the ambition is gone.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Know what you mean Kaneman.

My wife got laid off from her company due to that wonderful American trend of downsizing. I had to take on a second job to make up the difference and to make sure my family has a good Christmas. I am up at 5:30 am every morning to go to my first job & leave at 4pm. I go straight to my second job at 4:30 & work until 9:30 or 10:00. It's putting a lot of pressure on my family, me being gone all the time, but sometimes that is just how things are. A man's got to take care of his family. Hating it won't make a bad situation any better.

MINIME

My whine for the day:
I'm working full time, travelling an hour each way to get to work. I've just been told I've got 4 weeks to pack myself up and get ready to go out and work in the middle of nowhere in Papua New Guinea... so working full time, trying to coordinate that and pack up my life... in order ot be on call 24/7 in the middle of the jungle.

First of all, I applaud you for going back to enrich your career, Kaneman. An RN's pay is better, and the job more challenging, so good on you for doing this. Hang in there, I hope it will be worth the hectic schedule when you get done.
My husband and I inherited a family business which we helped grow for over 20 years now. The work we do is dirty and necessary. We work on people's cars.
We usually start work slightly before 8:00 a.m. and we finish anywhere from 5:30 p.m. ( official closing time) to 1:00 in the a.m. Depending on the job and what we've promised folks.
But... our day actually starts earlier than that, because we have a farm too. We usually are up at a quarter til 6:00 a.m. and feeding horses and cleaning the barn, although sometimes I go down later in the morning and do it, because there might be some extra thing to take care of. Then it's back up to the house to eat, get folks out the door to work. Then it's work, til whenever, once again doing chores at the end of the day.
So it's a constant pressure and can feel a bit unrelenting sometimes. We also work Monday thru Saturday only taking Sunday off. Have done that for years now. I have to say our travel time is short.. so we are lucky that way. We live close to both our business and our acreage.
Sometimes I feel sorry to be tied so completely to a job we have never had a vacation from. Literally. But also... we take care of our large family, my Mom and her place and have a good life. Not a rich by some people's standards life, but it's rich by mine.

I'm in the same camp as Browncoat1. We gotta do, what we gotta do.

Hell no. My 6am-2:30pm job changed recently to 12am-12pm, but I get Fridays off one week and Thursdays and Fridays off another week. The extra time off every week sounds swell, but add that to the fact that I don't sleep well during daylight hours unless I'm sick, and that in my off time I help my mom take care of the responsibility of my uninsured mentally ill sister, which is a full-time job sometimes in itself, and that there a couple of people in my family that I work with who enjoy passing judgement on me and my mother for all our faults and discussing it with others at work behind our backs as if we're not people at all. Oh, and then there's my approx. $8000 debt and both food and shopping addictions. Guess what they think of my addiction to all things Joss!!!

Ouch! I worked those hours plus a second job from noon to 4pm 3 days a week for about 2 months before my body told me to get another job. Learn to create a quiet, dark, sleepable environment for yourself or you're going to crash and that won't help your family at all.

*edited to say I should really go study now*
