This may be a spoiler for anyone who hasn’t read “Serenity: Those Left Behind” but you know how the blue gloves actually goes up their arms and covers their torso? Well, this probably isn’t a new concept I’m sure many Browncoats have pondered this but I know there must be some Browncoats out there that will go “Oh my god that’s it!”, just like I did. Anyways I think that the Blue also covers their lower body as well and I think that they should now be referred to as Blue Suit instead of Blue Glove. Another thing I have also realised is that the Blue Suit is what protects them when they use the device that makes people bleed from every orifice of their body. When that device is used EVERONE in the immediate area is effected but not themselves and it’s gotta be because of the Blue Suit they wear under their clothes! There is nothing else it could be!

Zoe: Big Damn Heroes Sir!
Mal: Ain’t we just!

What about their faces? Nothing covers their faces to protect them from the device.

Would you like a waffer thin piece of meat?

Our virtual continuation of the show at www.stillflying.net (19 episodes so far!) has given them a different name: Blue Sun Troubleshooters (in the Serenity Visual Companion, Joss confirms that there are lots of them, and they work for Blue Sun).

Hmmm. Way I recall, the hand-held device -- using some sort of ultra-sound? -- is very directional, consistent, btw, with the way ultra-sound travels: the "directivity" of any beam corresponds to the size of the source (very small in this case) compared to the wavelengths it's generating. At high frequencies the wavelengths are quite short, which would result in a very narrow distribution of the sound. In Ariel the device is clearly held in front of the Blue Gloves, with out-stretched arms. Seems to me the Blue Gloves would be quite safe from a highly directional beam themselves, without the need for any special suit.

There is another possibility to account for their apparrent immunity to their own weapons. Does anybody remember the old movie "scanners"? In it, somebody scanned by a psychic (a scanner in the movie's canon) suffered some minor effects from the manipulation of their brain, starting with a nosebleed, and the longer the scanner kept up his/her scan, the more severe the effects became until their head explodes. It could be that the Hands of Blue are immune to their own weapon because they are early graduates of the Alliance Academy, and while not as able as River or her fellow students, are at least able to protect themselves from their own weaponry.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

See, I always thought they weren't quite... human, and that's why they weren't affected by their weapon. When I saw that their bodies as well as their hands were blue, it almost confirmed that to me. Maybe it's too out there, but isn't it possible that they're some kind of cyborg that has some living parts but mostly not? They certainly behave in a rather robotic fashion. I know they seemed to be 'dead' at the end to Those Left Behind, but being fried by a ship going full burn could 'kill' a cyborg just as much as a person.

I also believe that the 'blue' is not just a suit, or coverage, but are in fact part and parsel of their bodies.

When you look at the drawings in TLB, their torso's have little apertures/nozzles, which to me indicates some sort of hook-up system. I had these images in my head of hoses hooking up to them for feeding and or repairs.

The whole thing reminded me of the 'wetware' smuggled by Tracey. We know that the technology was out there, so they could be part man, part, well, something else.

Might even be how Wash would come back...

I'm thinking we'll rise again!

This is a stumper. Ok at first we think its gloves until the comic book. Then we think maybe protection suit. Maybe from their 3 in one ultra freq. sonic brain cell blaster, or new full body armor suit against acid baths, lasers, and bullets. But then wet wear is new science the Blue Sun fun cola company would have something to do with this hmmm. Maybe just maybe their growing new skin. Could be the blue hand dudes are incubators for organs and the suits help it grow better. Now they could be like River Tam in which the suits control outside immotion. River feels everything around her the suits keep Zeigfield and Roy from popping their John tops. Now this is all just an ignant guess but a fun one.

You spoke to the girl.

Thanks, Canter! I hadn't even noticed the tube things. Very interesting...
