Anime Insider, number 39. With Naruto on the cover. Go pick it up now.

Nothing major, just an editorial comment in the lettercol, talking about the possibility of more IGPX, but at least it gets us some recognition among otakus. Plus, we're being used as an example of what to do.

But anything's possible in this crazy world of television where shows can wither on the vine and suddenly get enough steam to be resurrected from the dead (I'm looking at you, Family Guy), so maybe if there's a massive grassroots movement to get more IGPX (I'm looking at you, Firefly) then there's a possibility you might get more out of it. You could even organize something like that yourself!

This month's mail was responded to by Sean Senka (I note this 'cause AI's lettercol has been passed between staffers like a hot potato).

You know I really thought this post was going to mention 'Coyboy Beebop' at least once.

Great to see us getting a mention. Yay!

And this thread is SO good I decided to reply TWICE because it's just that good that it deserves it.

Can you explain that in Fan Dummy Talk--I don't know what IGPX or otakus is?

Thank Universal for airing Firefly in HD at

Otakus are to anime what Browncoats are to Firefly ("otaku" is Japanese for "fanatic" --the closest that language comes to "fan").

IGPX (standing for Immortal Grand Prix) is a series on Cartoon Network that has recently ended. It wasn't cancelled, but there are still enough plot threads left dangling that another series (*) would be worthwhile.

(* Like most anime, IGPX was designed to be finite: 13 episodes [plus another 13 at CN's request to make a full season's worth]. Unlike American shows, which are either "renewed" or "cancelled," anime series are written from the outset for a certain number of episodes [if anyone wants more, they have to ask the creators, who may well say "no thanks, we're moving on to other projects"].)

That's pretty cool!
Although I'm not a fan of anime myself, I know that the anime community is a very large one. And, their fans are not too different from our browncoats either, so it's good to see that more people might find out about the show from this!
