Hey folks, I just read this over at whedonesque.com and thought you'd be interested... The producers of the "Done the Impossible" firefly fan documentary are planning a Firefly/Serenity Cruise/Convention for December of 2007.

It'll be sort of a Flanvention 3 -- At Sea...

Here's the website:

Just so there's no accidental confusion, it might be like Flan 3 at sea in some sense, but it's NOT being put together by Booster Events, the Flan people.

(I can just see some people thinking otherwise.)

Oooh...looks shiny! Time and money permitting, that could be quite a fun do. I've never really been intersted in wandering around for several days on a large floating object, but if I ever decided to go on a cruise this would probably be it.

I'm not familiar with the folk who produced DtI. I take it they're a non-profit group who won't speed up the clock and cheat us out of our fun?

My best friend and I attended our first con ever, Flan 2, the Con that never happened...and though we were cheated out of money, we still had a blast, thanks to the SoCal Browncoats and the actors that showed up this past weekend! I was tentative about telling him about the cruise (he's a fan of FF, but not as diehard as I am), but at the mention of it, he was so excited, he burst out, " WE're Going!" We are purchasing our tickets as soon as possible! We were going to go to Paris, but we may have to postpone it for another year....:P

I'm a Firefly, I'm a Firefly......Serenity Now! HeeHee for those who know!

We are going to put up profiles of ourselves on the cruise site soon, but if you've seen Done The Impossible, you should have a pretty good idea of how close we are with this community. In fact if you want to see a very outdated list of what I've done in the name of Firefly check this out:

http://fireflydvd.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=775&start=21

And to answer your question, we aren't strictly non-profit, but we aren't all that interested in profiting from this, but rather in getting as many Browncoats on board as possible. If we manage to earn enough to help cover for the undoubtedly enormous amount of time we will be putting in, then that will be fine, but that isn't our primary goal.

Cruise destination will be a foreign country (Mexico) and a valid passport will be required.

A key reminder for folks like me who need to have a passport reissued. Don't wait 'til the last minute on this task.

Sounds awesome. I loved the dvd, btw.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

gotta check on mine, not sure if it expires this year or not. I'd love to do this, and my wife and I have been wanting to take another cruise (I just hope that if the destination is Mexico, the departure point may be closer to the East Coast - like FL :) )

Site says San Diego departure to points south. Forgot which points.
I think Cabo St Lucas was one?

Waiting to see how big a coin bag I'd need, then add airfare to determine ultimate doability.

..and now I can't get down.

I'm with you on this one, but I think us east coasters are gonna have to bite the bullet and head west if we're gonna cruise w/ the BDHs.

And as for us Europeans, we're basically humped. It's gonna cost a fortune just to get to Ca, and that's before we pay for the cruise.

Hmm... Maybe they can arrange one on this side of the pond too.

Honestly, I'd rather someone on that side of the pond do that. One of the reasons, in the wake of the Flan debacle, that I think people have more trust in this particular venture and these particular people is precisely because it appears to be the only major event on their table, as opposed to Booster which was trying to do several events over the course of any given year.

of course, if I'd actually clicked thru to the site, I'd have seen that - I got a little too excited about the forest to stop ad look at the trees. If I win the lottery, this could still be do-able :)

European cruise! Start at Mallorca, load up on fresh fruit and go to Iceland, bring tomatoes back on the return leg?

Get into character: "Screw customs, there's coin to be made!"
(Note: the above is pure silliness. My sister works for the FDA in the fruit and veggie dept. I know better than to smuggle fresh food. I'm still living with the fruit flies somebody brought in.

HEY! I just realized that airfare to the west coast is probably the same as crossing the Atlantic from here.

I don't think so. UK to the West coast, is looking at the sunny side of a thousand bucks in summer.

Here's what I found at Orbitz (cheap tickets):
2007, 10/22-11/5 there and back:
travelling from Syracuse to SanDiego: $450 to 580us
Syracuse to London: $636- 845.
So the highest price (usually less hassle) within US is pretty comparable to lowest price (ohmigodtheconnections!) non domestic.
I picked those dates because the site wouldn't let me peek into the actual travel dates.
Travelocity and Cheaptix also tend to be good enough sites for ticket purchases. AAA often has a discount if you are a member.
Still a big ouch. Maybe if I could take a lot of time off and drive? (1 week cross country if you use two or more drivers in shifts non stop, five days on a ship, 1 week cross country..ugh.)
Bus is still a good five days each way, train about the same.

..and now I can't get down.

You're just trying to get me to buy you a plane ticket to avoid having to deal with a stressed-out-from-driving-cross-country wife, aren't you?

The scary thing is, it might just work...

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I had wanted to go, but they are departing from California. Had it been Florida or even Texas as suggested at the beginning I could have made it work, but being in VA makes California too far for me. The cost of airline tix to CA plus the cost of the cruise added to the fact it is only 3 months after Dragon Con makes it too expensive for me to go. Add to that my family may want Christmas gifts next year and it ain't happening.

That is the traditional 12 year anniversary gift, isn't it? A plane ticket.

We have relatives in San Diego.

We can discuss it later where I can work my feminine wiles on you.

"Hey everybody! I made y'all sock puppets out of my old gym socks!" does not go over well. Don't ask how I know.
They REALLY hate it when that's what Santa brought too.
Invite the BDHs camping in the Blue Ridges in nice weather. That should pull 'em in!
