GRIZWALD

Welcome aboard.

I think it was pretty obvious to all involved that there were problems from the get-go. Joss never really had the support of the network behind his venture. They were all excited to have !!JOSS WHEDON!! working on another show for the network, but then when they saw what he had to offer, they never had faith in it and second-guessed him repeatedly.

We know that the last show to be shot was "The Message," and that by the time production began on that episode, the whole crew knew it was to be their last. If you have that piece of information I think you see that episode quite differently. Certainly Greg Edmondson's sound track for that episode was written with a lot of angst over the end of a great series.

I would suggest that you watch ALL the shows again with the commentaries turned on. (You don't mind watching them all again, do you? Of course not.) You'll learn so much about what was going on off camera that way.

STORYMARK

They found out prior to the end of shooting, as the order came down halfway through the season.

I think they got the news while shooting "The Message", and Joss talks about it on the commentary.

If I'm remembering wrong, I'm sure someone else will correct me.
