BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good evening 76th!

Artcat, what can I say about those chainmail sleeves except WOW!!! Those are fabulous. I can't wait to get my wife started on them. I am so glad she has learned how to knit recently. She has looked at your directions and is pretty sure she can do some.

I wanted to take a moment to wish all browncoats and especially my brothers & sisters in arms in the 76th a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope all of you have a joyous, festive, and wonder filled holiday season. Take care, be safe, and most of all share it with the ones you love.

Keep flyin' 76th!

SISTER

Merry Christmas and Good Morning from Tennessee. I will be reporting on the "pants" later this week when they arrive. I hope my specialty in the 76th will NOT be "target"!

*giggles at Sister* I think I will make a bigger target than you Sister... I'm really enjoying my back-story at the moment - working on it in odd moments in my day!

I agree with Browncoat1, Artcat! That is just Wow! and thank you for making it really simple for us folk who don't have a clue... the most I have ever knitted is a scarf, but now that you've put it like that I think I could manage it myownself! Thank you again!!

I have had a wonderful Christmas - see the picture thread for my day in review (as it were) and I am now looking forward to my Boxing day with friends!

I do hope all of the 76th has a wonderful Christmas or which ever season it is for you!

no problem! most folks tend to make things harder than they are, me I find the easy way :)

speaking of easy, I discovered that if you knit a row, then flip the whole project so you are again knitting in the same direction the new row looks purled (if thatt makes sense run with it, if it does not ignore me :) )

so.. anythign I could change do differently or better?

QUANDOM

I ask this knowledgeable group for help in identifying a weapon prop.

In one episode (name forgotten), our heroes are dealing with Patience. Ambushing the sniper, Jayne is shown then taking a weapon which I think looks like the Crossman NightStalker TK to which a barrel and a muzzle brake have been added. Can any one confirm this? I infer this was a military weapon which Patience had some how 'acquired'.

'Brown' stripe you say?
I thought it was black, as that would be the traditional color for Infantry. Wide stripe for NCOs, thin stripe for offices, no stripe for the 'high privates'.

Tristan sir, I have a question for you or anyone else in the know

in regards to rank and how it was denoted...

I was given the firefly companion for christmas and beign the uber geek I am I immediately flipped to teh soldier section, the area it shows both sides of the patch with the codes on the back, one of the sketches shows the corners of the traingles darkened.... it is not a blatant sign of rank buuut could it possibly be how they showed rank? just color in teh corners of the patch?

I will try and get the series of skethces in question scanned in reasonably soon. (unless some wonderful browncoat beats me to it)

In other news, I typed up some captain dummytalk style directions for the chainmail sleeves, they are up on our board look under general uniforms :)

Evening, all.
I have returned from the fun that was a family holiday...and I do NOT want to go back to work tomorrow....alas!

I hope everyone's holiday went well.

First, I will be starting a new thread tomorrow, as I am way too tired to do so tonight.

ArtCat, again, the sleeves look wonderful! To my eye, there is nothing that needs to be changed at all!

Quandom, I have no idea about the weapon. I did not pay too much attention to it, but it appeared to be a skeleton bolt-action rifle on a polymer frame.
As for the stripes on the pants, they are brown. Go to this site: http://gallery.angel-btvs.co.uk/thumbnails.php?album=229

And check pictures 11 and 15. (They are large photos, so I will not hot link them)
The stripe on Mal's pants are brown, and actually larger than one inch wide. These are the same type of pants he wore in the "flashback" scenes, and that is what I am basing the color of the stripe on. I do not know the exact material used, nor the exact width, but I do know that one inch wide grosgrain is something almost everyone can find, therefore, that is what our starting point will be.

ArtCat, I also have the Companion, and I checked what you were talking about. There is that possibility...I direct this question to BWTP for him to determine.
Thank you for that.

Good night, all...I will talk to you anon.

Hey Artcat... I have this on Photobucket already - seems I am at least as big a geek as you...in fact I think I posted it a couple of threads back but it wasn't significant to the conversation in that thread - anyway...

I did notice the different colours too, but I assumed that these were just mock ups of various designs they were considering at the time of costume design and all... I think you could have a pont though!

Ooooooh - Colonel Tristan, thank you for directing us to pretty, pretty pictures of our Captain Mal in larger than life technocolour!! Sorry you have to go back to work tomorrow - that is simply wrong...
