Dude, you MUST read Don Quixote!! Now before anything else!

MSG, I'll be right over!

JQ, "I am I, Don Quixote, the Man of La Mancha!"
and "To dream....the impossible dream!"
You know, when reading CMH's words, I was trying to remember where I had seen that concept before. Besides Quixote, I think Baldassare Castiglione's Book of the Courtier also covers a lot of these ideals. Especially in describing the prefered qualities in a man. CMH, I also suggest that as some light reading.
It was written around 1520, and sheds some light on the ideals of that time period regarding the "ideals" for a man...including something called sprezaturra, which is basically a skillful nonchalance.

-EDIT-
*indicates through sign language to DTH that he feels sorry for her and that he's glad she showed up*

There's a bit of it in The Faerie Queen too, if I remember correctly. But that's one book I really haven't read since college.

Hello DTH, sorry to hear you're feeling yucky.

The Book of the Courtier does cover a great deal on how to be a proper gentleman.

Q: How much does one man's sorrow weigh?
A: As much as he allows it to weigh.

So, sometime next month I should have photos to show off.

Cool! I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hey, NVG, did I tell you I love the new tattoo? Can't remember if I mentioned that.

Well, I've had a huge boost to my ego. Turns out my colouring is exactly the kind lots of guys here like! Since I'm 100% Irish I'm white. Very white. Completely white. In fact, I'm so white I'm sort of a pale blue. It takes about two weeks of tanning for me to turn white. As has been mentioned, we're not famous for our sunshine here.

That being said, apparently there was a great sunrise at Newgrange this morning. Really something to see, by all accounts. Newgrange is a passage tomb, about 500 years older than the pyramids of Giza. Every year at the Winter Solstice the tomb is lit by the rising sun. It's very, very pretty, though not nearly as spectacular as it was back when it was right on target - stellar drift has thrown it a little off over the last couple of thousand years!

*uses sign language to thank Mircea for feeling sorry for her*

Mircea and Fitch. Sorry I missed out on much of your exchange. I bid you welcome, Fitch.

We've no snow here in the south of Michigan--I'd wager Kelkhil could could a different story from the Up North--and it's supposed to be 52F tomorrow. Don't know about global warming but we're certainly experiencing peninsular warming.

You can see me when the magical wish granting Santa gets me my own digital camera, scanner and internet connection. And a house that I can install said internet connection. With a cool new computer too!

Maybe I should wish for unlimited money like RiverIsMyGoddess? It would save a lot of hassle.

I will try and post a pic in the new year though.

EDIT: *hugs Jonny Quest back* Thanks, sweetie!

Well, guess it's time for me to go too. Goodnight all!

Why do families insist on forcing you to celebrate holidays you don't want to celebrate? Anyone think I can get out of Christmas by being sick this year?

I doubt it. You might try finding some moment or aspect to enjoy. Or if nothing else, remember that this is only a moment in time and it will be over:)

Merrrrrry Christmas all!

The frozen north isn't even all that frozeny this year. I don't even see snow around. Except a few piles in corners of big parking lots.

MsG it's not fair to talk about yummy cooking like that when I'm stuck in the land of old people food. Which means crazy combinations of leftovers.

I have a feeling I'm gonna be ordering pizza a lot this week. Oh well at least it's Christmas time and I don't have to work. That is unless my manager calls me again saying our tools are down. *mumble* *grumble* Who says I was awake at 11am huh!? *grumble* *grumble*

ASORTAFAIRYTALE

Hiya everyone!
I'm not entirely caught up yet, but here's what I got.
Santa, I honestly don't know what I would ask for. It's like if you actually know that you can ask for anything in the world and just get it, then suddenly you just don't want anything. Or maybe that's just me.

And yeah, I still have school tomorrow too MsG, it's not just you! I don't feel like I'll be able to make it one more day!!

VERSEEXPLORER

Hi, AsortaFairyTale,
I think most have left for now. They might be back later. They were discussing hair colors, and if you have a preference for a particular color. I don't think I have a preference. If I have a type, I would say that it's someone that I enjoy their humor. I can even say bald is OK. Who needs hair? If it's the right person, it doesn't matter to me.

I do have my natural hair color, brunette. I've never dyed it. I think that's fairly rare for someone my age.

Also added to the conversations today - I have very pale skin with freckles. LA, I don't go from blue white to white after several hours in the sun. I go from white to lobster red. I never tan. I've given up trying.
