Hi Magda!

I've got a holiday cold. I'm still up as I slept in until 2:30 this afternoon, so as it's only 1am, I'm still bouncing a bit.

How's things where you are? Is it sunny? Warm? All those things Michigan's not right now (except surrounded by water...we always got that.)?

Right now, I'm thinking of trying to make a banner again. I suspect I'll need a bit more brain than I currently have running, but then I've never let that stop me (or my mouth) before.

About your ???....maybe 'cause folks think it's a beautiful way to end it and can't top it? *hugs* You do look nice, so don't worry.

Hi Whimsical! *waves* How are ya?

RMMC, I hope you got some sleep last night. It's hard to get better when you can't sleep.

Hey, RIMG, I've already said morning in the pub, but it's always good to see you.

Right, a 12-hour road trip with a 5 year old could put anyone in a straight jacket. Even the sweetest children have a hard time sitting for several hours. The 12 hours would be difficult to say the least.

I teach some classes on historical rapier. While I don't want to teach on Labor Day weekend apparently there are about 200 people who want to be taught that weekend.

Edit: Well, they're finally gonna let me leave for the day. I better take advantage before somebody changes their mind. I'll most likely be on tomorrow. See ya then and take care.

If I could bring a few folks back, it wouldn't be so bad. there were a few over the years that really got the job done and had fun doin' it. And (I can't believe I'm sayin' this) under different circumstances, I even wouldn't mind having She Who Shall Not Be Named back. I'm pretty sure I've learned my lesson with that one and any potential others.

So, as for tech clones: They gotta be cute, strong, know how to cook, can communicate well, have been places and done things, and must know how to have fun. Is that asking too much?

I don't think I'd recommend having She Who Shall Not Be Named back at the work force. I'm sure you've changed a lot, but some things should not be around us.

Thanks for sharing that, NVG. It makes more sense now. I can feel your angst, but I have to say that the one sentence that spoke to me was:
"As a child, I felt that if I reached just a little higher, I could feel the stars twinkling on my fingertips."

That is so poetic. I remember that feeling as a child. Too bad we can't capture that feeling more often as we grow older.

Every great once in a while i can almost feel it. But that is the point just before things that were looking good go to shit and can't be fixed. I think that is on reason why I work myself to being tired. That way when there's hard things to do I am able to just move effortlessly from one thing to another without hesitation.
I'm still gonna keep tryin' to touch that feeling, if only for a moment.

I find that being around young children helps me. I can capture a glimpse of what it was like to have your entire life ahead of you and reaching for the stars. Of course teaching the wee ones is my job, so I am reminded of it daily.

It helps alot having the kids in the house. Even though they might be cryin' and carryin' on, it helps to know that their little world is just as, if not more important than the great big world we walk in.

I think I remember you saying you'd rather not discuss Firefly with anyone under 18. Honestly, some of my kids have watched FF and the BDM and I was really surprized how open the discussion was. A few of our clients really dig anime and the discussions we get into. One of our girls really got into Rurouni Kenshin, of which I am a huge fan. These things really helped to open a dialogue to what was really bothering them.

I forgot my point.

ADD: As you can see, I'm done for the day. I was probably done a long time ago, but I seem to have denial issues or some such. Glad to have heard from everyone. Goodnight.

I'm not sure of my exact quote, but what I was trying to say was:
I know that young teens and preteens watch the show, but I wouldn't recommend it to them. An example is that I shared it with friends that have a 15 year old daughter. They watched it with her. I would not have a problem talking about it with her because her parents let her view it. I would not have given it to her to watch without parental consent.

I know that young teens watch programs with a lot more sex and violence, but being a teacher, I would feel ackward recommending anything with sex and violence for them to watch.

Firefly is filled with such heart and soul, and of course you know that I love it or I wouldn't be on FFF.net. I could see how a discussion of life in the 'verse could be a great interaction, but explaining the need for a companion in the future makes red lights go off in my head. In my profession, there are so many people that are anxious to sue any teacher that has inappropriate discussions with young teens.

Does that make sense?

NVGHOSTRIDER

Just caught your rply so I'll hang out for a bit.

I got what you were sayin' from the start. I just wish more parents could sit with their kids and discuss the problems translated in the media. The various media we are surrounded by could be such an invaluable tool if people would utelize it properly. I'm glad there's still folks out there like you VE. There are so few that actually give a crap that should be tryin' harder still around.

Okay, now I'm out. Hugs.
