I really would like to know. What do you think they would have done with it? Would they just tear it down?

...which set? Firefly or Serenity?

Not sure about the latter, but the former was definitely torn down. I have pieces of her hanging on my walls. Bits and pieces were swiped for safe-keeping.

I have to imagine most of the Serenity sets were also struck. Space saving and whatnot.

Yep, it got tore down. It was occupying the largest soundstage at Universal City, so it got reused pretty quick.

It took somethink like a 100 or so people to build it, too -- not cheap. It had to be rebuilt for the movie anyway, though, so this is the 2nd time it's been destroyed.

yep, unfortunatly both verisons (the Firefly one and the Serenity one) got torn down.

Simple fact was they were just too big for storage (ie: Serenity took up two of Universals biggest sound stages alone). And with the low prospects of another sequel/series, the storage cost would have been to high.

Although i do feel the heads of Universals theme parks could have tried to find a way to incorurate it into their rides or shows or seomthing instead of just wasting those beautiful pieaces of sci fi history. I certainly would of paid good money just to SEE that cargo bay myself, as would many other peoople i suppose, but they didn't think that far ahead so we can't.

Curse them and their inevitable betrayl!!!

A lot of the set was tossed into the garbage. Things like furnishings and decorations (tea pots, chairs, etc.) were recycled as appropriate - back to prop warehouses or on to different shows, unless they were damaged and unusable.

A lot of the set dressing and props from the ship ended up at the Propstore of London, along with costumes and preproduction items.

I have quite a few items from the BDM, including a shiny metallic grey ceramic cup from Serenity's galley. :)

Well, with the Firefly set I'm betting F*X execs set it on fire. Then danced around it chanting the words that were sent by their master.

God...it's depressing to even think about this subject! OK..the stages gone; what about the guns, clothing, etc etc ? I'd like to believe that Nathan and the rest of the BDH's got some of the goodies for themselves to keep.

Why is it that ALL the stupid and shitty movies like Fantastic Four, Santa Clause,Big Mommas House, Superman,Fokkers, etc etc get more movies, and Firefly/Serenity is ignored?

The ONLY answer I come up with is the hard reality that the vast majority of people in America & the rest of the world are frikkin' morons, idiots, and mindless dolts, and the bean-counting suits know that oh so well!.....Yeah...bet they're all drooling in breathless anticipation for the new season of American Idol or Survivor, or some new show with Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson!....How gorram rutting sad and pathetic for the human race.

there's a joke in the Prairie Home Companion movie, about another show closing , and what'll happen to the old house set.

The detective, Guy Noir, says, " I figure it has something to do with that big dumpster that was delivered yesterday."

When a show closed, studios used to store the more re-usable sets on the back lot for a while. If another show needed a salooon, or courtroom, or hospital, the designer could pull one out of the stock on the lot, get it repainted and refurbished, cheaper than building from scratch.

'Course it had to BE re-usable-- can't thnik anybody else could much use a spaceship that looked like Serenity.

Well, the Ariel ambulance got rescued from Fox's Junk yard, literally just like the fictional one was in the Episode. A lot of stuff fell into the hands of Collectors, in particular this one guy who's name I can't recall but his stuff makes up a lot of the photos in the FF official Visual Companion Vol 1. The only real "Collectible" from the Series that people can still purchase are the metal game cards from "Shindig". They have a few left, in display frames, at Propstore.com . Look under "Firefly" in their inventory list.

The Serenity props and costumes are available there as well; I mentioned that earlier in this thread. Their latest additions are the gloves that Jayne wore when he and Kaylee were cleaning the Cargo Bay, and one of the Prop Rubber Grenades from the film. Both are priced a bit high, but if you set up the list to read from "Lowest price to highest", you'll see what's affordable and what's not. Items actually worn or used by the cast and having extensive screen time tend to be outrageously expensive. But every once in a while you can get lucky. I purchsed the Special Forces Badge that was on Simon's Uniform at the beginning of the BDM for $135. Might seem like a lot, but it was made specially for the film, and is pretty much "one of a kind".

So if you're looking for such things, there's a good place to start

As mentioned earlier, a lot of things get reused. Firefly used a set from "The Power Rangers" for the derelict ship in "Bushwhacked"! The spacesuits were leftovers from the film "Soldier" with Kurt Russel. The Alliance Soldier's gear was from "Starship Troopers"... see?
