Was it really bad? I saw bits and pieces of the first season and remember thinking it wasn't bad at all for a "teen drama". Although that was mostly down to a dark haired guy playing a comic book geek who seemed genuinely amusing.

I know it was appallingly soap operaish, but that's pretty much what the genre calls for.

If you're into that kind of thing, it wasn't actually bad. Got about 10 million viewers on average at first, which is 4 times Firefly's average.

However, as each season went on, they kept repeating the same storylines but swapping the characters around. The audience kept going down. With this season, Firefly actually had more viewing figures than The OC does now (and Firefly was a flop). So, cancelled. Surprised FOX supported it this long, though.

I was listening to the radio today, and on one of the rock stations, one of the DJ's was talking about the show and how the creator Josh Schwartz (?) was saying how they would give the series an appropriate ending. And the guy recommended that on the series finale, an earthquake should hit Orange County and all the characters be swallowed up into the sea.

Now THERE'S something I'd like to see on network TV. You know, if you're gonna go out, go with a bang.

Thank heavens. I thought it would never end.

I actually read an article about the cancellation where they made a Joss reference. The reporter stated that the show might do a Buffy and switch networks. God, I hope not.

I found it to be pretty much the same as all the other Dawson's Creek wannabees or as a friend of mine called it "Rich pretty teenagers with problems" shows. The world is probably better off without it.

Maybe they could open a Hellmouth and have the whole town pulled into the ginormous sinkhole.

That'd be pretty funny actually; instead of cancelling it, they fire the cast, change the sets, and completely reinvent it from the ground up. If the new show doesn't work, just repeat until you hit something good.

I'm just tickled by the "What If" of Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles rolling into town, and seeing the O.C.'s characters very slowly start losing screentime until they're relegated to background characters on (no longer) their own show.

Yeah, I always wondered why trash like The O.C. survived but the 'Verse got axed. But I doubt they'll breathe life back into Joss's world(s) purely because some dodgy sop got shown the door.

In fact, I can't put my finger on exactly why we went in the first place. I can only assume it was the out-of-order episode showing during irregular programming hours (I believe minor league baseball was on at the same time or something) combined with F*X not liking the show and Sarah Michelle Gellar's departure from Buffy prompting F*X to boot Firefly because they assumed only Whedonites were watching it and without Gellar in one completely unrelated series, no-one would watch the 'Verse.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Yeah, they should bring back Firefly, except Joss has said he is never working with their dumb asses again. Who can blame him, really?

Somebody should bring back Firefly. Probably not the original network, though. Would you really trust them with it again?

"OK, we'll bring it back if you focus on River because she's young and pretty. Everyone else gets relegated to moving scenery status. Find her a boyfriend and make it about their farcical dating problems. We'll have the ship crash land on an island where strange people are being mysterious, bring in a singing/dancing troupe of forensics experts, and kill everyone off by audience vote each week."

Ugh.
