does anyone know where I can get an estimated number of Browncoats/fans? Maybe a message board member count or a Frapper map total. I know that sounds funky but I am trying to ballpark how much Serenity has grossed since it's release (including dvd sales). I am going to use a sort of rough algebraic equation, however I need a starting number of fans for this to even work. I am going to use my results as sort of a letter writing thing because I feel that our BDM has made profit and I want to prove it....at least as much as I can. Thanks to anyone who particiaptes. Also I will post my results if anyone would like to know.

No, there are that many names / aliases. One person can have more than one. I know one woman with about a dozen.

But don't forget, there are those that are fans of the show and film, that aren't active in places like this. I have 6 such friends I've converted to the ways of the 'verse, and all now (thanks to my incessant, unrelenting plugging) own the series and the film, but aren't active online in the fandom.

I have about 10 close family members and at least a dozen friends who are browncoats and dont participate on this site (or are in general afraid of the internet) so the amount of people on this site is not a good indicator of browncoats.

I am factoring in such "variables" (to think I actually don't like algebra) like fans with multiple names and fans not onnline geeks. I just need a jumping point. Thanks for your help. I knew I could rely on us browncoats.

One thing to consider, though this isn't profit, is the CantStopTheSerenity screenings... I don't think they count as gross profit for sales and what not, but the different cities pay licensing so they can show the movie. That's 40-ish screenings just on one weekend... not counting the number of people who have screenings for other charity events... cantstoptheserenity.com

If you end up with a number, I'm interested to know how many people were converted after the movie closed. I never saw the BDM in the theater, but I know I would see a sequel. It would be interesting if we could estimate how many MORE people would attend the sequel, having come late to the fandom.

Best of luck,

There are approximately 5 billion Browncoats. Most have not been converted yet but it is only a matter of time.

Don't know if this helps or not but one site I was looking at for Jayne hats had 75000 reads....

seeing as some people come back twice, but then some people don't have computers, I've thought that was ballpark for the US. I've never gotten a read on foreign browncoats.

Wasn't the official Universal movie site up to around 75,000 before it closed? And that was long before all the new converts to the verse through those of us who spread the word, the DVD of the BDM hitting video rental shelves, and the marathon shown on TV.

Also, the more PR the actors are getting with mentions of FF, the more people are going to be curious and get hooked. (I'm thinking specifically of Nathan Fillion's stint on "Lost" and the upcoming "White Noise: II" plus Adam Baldwin on "DayBreak.")

If I'm gonna dream, I'm gonna dream big.
