A group of fans of Virtual Firefly are putting together a project that will see Firefly once again in some kind of filmed medium. That medium is machinima, but it's a little more sophisticated than the genre implies. We've got a real Serenity and a real mule already worked up, and the biggest thing we're currently missing is the voice acting. What we need is people to record themselves saying some dialog (try to find something that's a little longer, I have suggestions in mind for anyone that's stumped, just send an e-mail off to mvff_voice@yahoo.com) and to save that as any audio file type your little heart desires and send it off to mvff_voice@yahoo.com We'll evaluate all submissions, including a fan vote over at VFF's forums and hope to make a decision soonish although I am wary of putting a hard deadline on it. Head on over to our Forums and take a gander at the thread discussing the project, including some demonstration animations.

http://www.stillflying.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=391

And if you haven't taken a gander at Virtual Firefly yet, than I don't know what you're waiting for! They're well into season 2 and things are getting better and better- including some frustrating solid hints at Book's possible past with MilCom, River getting saner and crazier all in one topsy-turvy episode and Inara getting real close to Jude.

Just wanted to give a little bump to let people know we're still going forward with the project, but we really need people to want to be in the project!

Actually sounds kinda cool. I took the Firefly test and came up as Wash... seems fitting since I am a bit of a smart, uh, mouth.

Do you guys have a script of some sort or do you want a voice over from the series/movie?

There's a list both in the thread I linked in my first post as well as at the following page:

Sounds fun, but i lack the technology to be able to play.

So...a nice shiny bump for the thread.

it doesn't take much. If you've got $10 to spare at your local Wal-Mart grabbing a mic (Logitech, good stuff) and a computer, that's all you need. If not, that's cool. We need fans, too.

Actually the problem is more of old, OLD 'puter and only having dial-up (takes rutting forever to upload or download anything.).

Some day I'll techie-up, but by then the rest of the 'verse will still be leaving me in the dust.

Let me know if you guys end up putting any on CDs. I'd pay to have that shipped.

GWEK

Hi, guys. This is the head writer of VFF (Virtual Firefly). I just wanted to drop by to offer my support to Yancy and the project. Thanks, of course, for the kind words on the project over all (20+ episodes in, which means you've got over 1000 pages of Firefly content if you want it!). Yancy: You might want to post a link to one of the early Firefly clips that your group put together so folks can see what you're working toward!

Good idea, gwek.

The teaser (4:45) for our first episode, Pull the Trigger. Now imagine voice actors instead of just the dialog!

I would see the stuff but my PC's sound card is dead I can't do a decent voice for anyone, but I might be able to work out a guest star (Ben Hicks or something like that maybe).

Guest stars are totally required and welcome, too. Which is good for me, because after listening to my auditions, I'm pretty sure I'm not casting myself as one of our BDHs. I figure we need about 13 voice actors total for the first episode, and Book isn't even in it.

Keep in mind for Ben that he gets drunk a time or two over the course of the series

by the way, how old is ben anyway, and who else do you need, cause I'm not sure if I can do a good drunk kid voice, but maybe...

Ben is in his late teens in 1x16. Although, come to look at me notes, we don't need Ben just yet. We do need Capt. Chien and Lt. Wallace, an unsavory gentleman named Gen. Obun and Rex. Also from Serenity we need Fanty and Mingo, Mr. Universe, Sheydra and the Trading Station Guard. We'll also need the following bit to semi-bit parts:

Flight Helmet Man
Freighter Capt.

WOMAN
Bandanna Man
Long-Haired Man
Military Man #1
Offscreen Reporter
Newsperson

I might be able to pull off Wallace or Chien. I can have a decent military personell speech. It might work. Maybe. Talk to me when you need Ben though, cause that part would be fun.

Cool. Can you record these and send them to me at mvff_voice@yahoo.com? And that goes for anyone who wants to record for something other than our Big Damn Heroes. If you want suggestions, drop me a line, otherwise, just record some lines. All I ask is that they be something other than short, one-sentence lines so I can get a feel for you. I should point out that Chien and Wallace, while playing a big part in the Virtual Series overall, actually have a bit smaller part in our first episode, so these lines are from episode 2x13: The Breathing.

CHIEN
VFF1: Typical bloody Blue Sun red tape. Can’t do a thing without their higher-up’s nod. If they won’t deal with Reynolds, I am more than prepared, and happy to. Get a location trace on that signal.

VFF2: Good. The girl is too much a threat to be allowed to live, but after all this, death is too easy for the good Captain. Kill the girl, but I need Reynolds alive.

Wallace
VFF1: ETA eight minutes, sir. We have just received a full kill order.

VFF2: Far as I can tell, sir… Nothing. He sent an encrypted burst to the base, but it appears he just turned off the alarm.

HARDCOPI

If this project goes forward every one will have Yancy to thank for it. I gave it up weeks ago. I am the guy who did the actual Machinima (with ChangeStorm creating the Firefly model).

It is a lot of fun to do, but without voices there really is no reason to continue.

I might work on it some more when I get home, I do enjoy it, but without voices it just is boring. :)

I wouldn't mind also doing other short stories besides VFF. It might actually be easier with another shorter story to start off with.

This sounds awesome, and I'd love to do what I can.

I'm sure most people here are capable of doing more than one voice (especially when it comes to background) so should we do a couple so you can see what we're capable of?

Also, about how old is Chien?

absolutely, send in as many as you want.

As for Chien, he is described as being in his early forties.

I've got a mic and Audacity (and The Movies, if y'all are still thinking that route), if you're still looking for voice actors. Any way I can help, and I'll see what I can dig up.

Sorry I haven't gotten anything off to you yet. Real life has caught up to me and all my freetime is going to the 76th. Once I have some time (hopefully this weekend) I'll record some lines and send them off.

Final casting call! After a lull, the video side of the project has gained some momentum and it's time to make some decisions. If you are interested, please feel free to throw your hat into the ring!
