nope, FlatRich, who runs TV_vote has been clear; the vote will not stop at 250,000. HOWEVER, it is possible some "award" or recognition might be given to the first show to reach 250,000. I'd surely like it to be FireFly.

To pass XWP up you basically have to get about 2,000 votes a day to catch up. they are 50,000 votes ahead. XWP was on for 6 years, Firefly only 1, so a lot more fans. If you are wondering where all these fans are just type in Xena warrior princess, Renee O'Connor and Lucy Lawless and you will see thousands of active fans on every kind of e-mail group. Merwolf is a missy Good fan list, over 3,000 fans, a 100 messages a day, the official Renee and Lucy e-mail group, each has their own seperate list, Renee has 1114 active fans, Lucy has 1810, and another lucy list has 1500 fans, all very active and they post several times a day about doing nothing but voting on this poll. There is a lot of voting going on. Now i've always been a big XWP fan; met my partner of 10 years on those lists, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Firefly, so they have been getting my votes, but I don't vote very often. It's too time consuming and I have other things to do. Top 3 is pretty good for such a short lived show, very dedicated fans.

Well, top 3 isn't going to do it for me. We might be chasing Xena for a long time, but at the very least it will be as #2.

Hi FlyVote,

A suggestion to get more votes.

As there are a lot of FlyVote users and some of the people using it "forget" to vote for Firefly. Can the popup be set to always vote for Firefly every time the vote button is pressed regardless of what shows are selected ?

Hmmm... maybe pre-mark Firefly... but I'd "pre-check" that with Rich who runs the site. I would think voting for firefly "under the covers" is dishonest.

Oh, yeah... bump.

Xena puts up a big number for a 2nd day; let's stay focused on our next goal: getting ahead of Bonanza ASAP; and build up our voting pool as much as possible while doing that. We'll worry about Xena then; we still have a lot of good work to do for getting 2nd place.

I go away for like 3 days and when I come back we're losing ground to Xena.

Not good.

First things first. I apolosise for the lenght of this. Consider it a month's worth of bumps...

When Nathan first started his myspace, I sent him a few direct messages asking if he would maybe mention the voting campaign in his blog. I did it mainly before the December 1st Voting day drive.

He didn't respond.

I realised he maybe could not really respond to each and every request.

I then made mention of the voting thing in his "comments" for other Browncoats to read, and I added a link.

In his next blog he referred to annoying people who tried to guilt him into visiting fanboards and he then disabled all links in his "comments".

I somehow get the idea he doesn't want to get involved with this. To be fair, firefly is in his past and he's probably a bit busy. I don't blame the man ( I adore the ground he walks on) but I don't think we can look for too much help from that quarter. Unless everyone on this site start nagging him incessantly, until he realises how important this is to us....

I've requested Jewell to add me as a friend to her myspace, but that hasn't happened yet.

When we did the December 1st thing, a few of us started visiting other firefly boards to promote the day, but I personally think we will never get the numbers necessary to gain on Xena if we can't reach non-internet fans. For every fan active on the boards, there must be at least 10 who isn't. Why is it not possible to form an e-mail chain?

In 1999 I was in the UK while we had our general elections back home. For some reason, the government wouldn't allow us to vote, because we weren't in the country on the day of the election. Within about a month, we managed to obtain 55 000 e-mail "signatures" on a online petition against their decision. Every person involved knew at least 3 other people touched by the decision. E-mails were sent and the petition signed. How can that not work here? Don't you know of 3 other Browncoats? Before December 1 I "requested" (please read "blackmailed") a few of my friends to vote for the show, even though they've never seen it. They gladly did it (please read "fearing for their lives") and are now very curious about the show. I've converted at least three people to the show with that.

We will not succeed in this if we don't focus our attention and organise our efforts.

Consider that my two cent's worth.

I can't tell if you're seriously suggesting that we should do this or not, so I won't criticize. But I do want to put in my $0.02. I think that it's a terrible idea to bother Nathan and the other BDHs in an attempt to get them to mention the voting. In the first place, these are actors that have personal lives and other work to do. Firefly is in their past. It may be a treasured memory, and they might even hold on to the hope for more, like we do. But "nagging incessantly" could only have the effect of alienating them from the Firefly fanbase, which is something we want to avoid at all costs. We are obssessive, fine. But in the we've also had the reputation for being, well, not the nicest fandom ever. We certainly don't want our BDHs to share that opinion. In the second place, this voting thing can't become something that we live and die over. I would personally love to see Firefly take home the trophy; but if we don't, that will not change my love of the 'verse one tiny little bit, nor will it change the fact that Firefly is the best damned TV out there. I'm thinking we need to take a step back and breathe--this voting thing is not the end of the world. I reckon Mr LaBonte has himself a good hearty chuckle every time one fandom or the other gets all spun up over it. It's just a single website poll, folks, seriously.

Right,

I keep on forgetting that irony doesn't translate well. Not from Afrikaans to English, and most definetly not from my mind to the e-mail screen.

Please reread my previous post, and then ignore the bit about the "nagging incessantly".

And then discuss among yourselves whether we should consider an e-mail list.

And for clarity. I'm not suggesting toy-toying in the streets. (OK, for more clarity: toy-toying is something protesters do over here when they want attention. It looks a lot like dancing)

I'm suggesting spreading the word to more people than those on the boards. I think everyone realises that this is just a poll. A lot of us have been voting for a long while now, and we know exactly what it is about.
But it is a poll which is attracting a lot of attention. And every little bit of attention helps keeping my serenity-hopes in the air.
I do not apologise for them.

I have friends voting that don't like Sci Fi, they are just voting to help me out. So spreading the word however we choose to do it is fine.

Since the BDHs admit to being fans themselves, I don't think it's inappropriate to request they post something on their My Space but of course, nagging is a no-no.

May I suggest those with fan items make a link to the voting site, that may help as well.

I just don't get it. Xena hits 1k+ and all of a sudden our 1k+ streak ends. It's like SOME Browncoats are thinking 'what's the point?'

I would have thought Xena hitting 1k+ would have inspired us to vote even harder and start hittin 1300+. We were hitting around 1150+ regularly last week.

Let's not forget guys, this could just be a small phase from Xena fans and the voting is long term. It may just be a week or so of Xena fans hard voting and then relaxing again, but if we keep it above the 1k+, when they start to relax again it will make all the difference. Finding an extra hour a day to vote could make the difference between 1st and 2nd.

True heroes are not those who fall and stay down but those fall and come back even stronger. When this contest ends and Firefly is at number one, nothing will beat the feeling of thinking 'Yes, we did that!'

So come on Browncoats, let's show Xena and the rest WHO WE ARE!

I think BSG's numbers went down a little as well. Not sure whats up, but I'm going to just attribute it to coincidence. We had a bad voting day and they had a good one. Lets keep up the pressure and not get discouraged.

I'd also like to second that, though I'd really like to see Firefly at the top, this poll isn't all that important. Suppose something real came up that if enough browncoats got involved the series would be put back on the air? Thats when we should go to someone like Nathan to help muster the troops. Not over this.

What will happen when this vote ends? Anyone know?

Will it just be something on the web or is it a genuine study that will be recognised in some way by the media etc?

Just wondered as if Firefly did get number 1 it may help our cause to bring back on the air.

Agree with others, I don't think we should break out the big guns (BDH's) for this one.

The fellow who runs the vote has stated he has no intention to end it. Ever. So, plan is "open ended."

There has been some indication there >may< be some special recognition for the first show to hit 250K; or perhaps for -each- show as it hits 250k. But... nothing solid.

I will say that Firefly's solid showing on TV_vote has to be a positive factor; people see it and think "mmm, wonder if I should check that out". It's bragging rights. So... I think it helps. Will it be "the" thing that gets it back on... probably not.

===Change of subject...
I think Casaul (sp?) hits the nail on the head. Important... but let's not get carried away here. We don't want to alienate folks with this. Enthusiasm! Yes.
Fun! Yes.
Scare people away! No!!! ;-)
So sure, talk it up; try to get folks to join in... but have fun, remember it is, ultimately, just a "contest" of sorts. Compete.... strongly. Play fair. Get folks excited... but it is what it is.

This isn't Firefly related but is very important. It'll only take a minute of your time.

The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing.
Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site:

If you could click once a day with your 1st Firefly vote of the day it would be most appreciated. I'm not connected to this site myself but a friend is and they are desperate for help.

For those w/ spread sheets, import using a "parse columns" of "_" (underscore), you should get a nice table.
title_ Show title
total_ Total votes as reflected at the end of January voting.
pos_ Overall position at the end of January voting
janVotes_ How many votes a show got in January
posChange_ Position change from start of January to end.
avePday_ Average votes per day in January.
rank_ Sorting by number of votes in January, voting rank in January.

For the second month in a row, no other show came even close to getting Firefly's total votes. Xena is obviously going to be a challenge in February.

BSG has made huge gains this month, moving up 17 positions!

On Jan 1, Little House was #4 on the nomination polls; it's totals are based on it's counts in the nomination list on that date.

We gained 14,000 votes on Xena in January, and 10,000 votes against Bonanza

All in all, I think January was a -very- impressive month, statisticly speaking.

============================================================

Nominations side....
Looks like now that LHotP has made top 40, the collation that made it happen has split between Highway to Heaven (Landon contingent, probably) pulling down about 100 votes/ day and Wagon Trail which is now in the 60's range.

Combat! is picking up speed, getting 300 votes/ day on a regular basis. They will need to hit about 11,000 in the process of breaking into the top 40; so about 10 to 15 days at current pace. The show to go to top 40 after combat is going to need about 15,000... so it's going to be a long trek for anything at thier current pace. Unless a "lowish" top40 suddenly looses support, it will take about 100 votes a day to make the top40 "ever"; and more like 150+ to make it in any reasonable time.

The Waltons are making a bit of a move up the nomination charts; but heavy fluxuation in voting. Not clear they will be able to persist.

Mr. Rogers continues to make progress, currently sitting at position 80 of the nomination list.

I have a feature request for Flyvote. I know that an auto vote is out of the question and a bad idea. I wonder if we could have a button that would save our favorites. Then the next time we vote a button to recall them.

I'll second that. I use flyVote as a timer, but still use my webbrowser to vote so I can "go back" to my previous ballot so I don't have to fill it in again. Even a "back" button which a regular browser has would fulfil the bulk of the "need".

Quick question, when will the voting end and the winner be decided?

hero .n. (pl. heroes) 1 a person who is admired for their courage or outstanding achievements. 2 the chief male character in a book, play or film.

The contest is "unbounded." The fellow who runs it intends to keep it open "forever." Forever, being a very long time, is an unlikely result;-)

Personally, when Firefly is at the front, I'll have decided it is the winner ;-) It's good for bragging rights for however long you can hold it; and is good PR (people will see it at the top of a chart (even near the top of the chart) and think "I oughta check that out." I know I bought Roswell (which my wife has loved) and Battlestar Galatica (which I'm now very partial to) due to exposure on this site. I can only imagine Firefly is getting it's share of "mind share" from this as well.)

Anyone know any Xena fans? What are they like? Everytime I think of them all I can imagine is Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons
