RHYIANAN

My $.02 on the feminism thing:

Equality is something that we should strive for, but I'm tired of being ridculed for wanting to be a stay at home mom. I'm tired of being told that I'm too smart to be a photographer like I'm training to be (because economically, I probably won't be able to stay at home with the kids). I'm tired of being told that I'm too young to want children. I'm tired of being told that my ultra-feminine ways are creepy. I'm tired of being told that when I marry, I shouldn't take my husband's name. I'm tired of being told that the reason I want those things is that I was raised with certain gender expectations and I need to be freed of them. This is my experience with feminism and why the movement has no allure for me.

The fact that women should have to sign up for the draft was mentioned as well. I don't think that women should have to sign up for it, but then again I don't believe men should either, so it equals out.

That burns me up too, Rhyianan, just as much as the inequality women face in the workplace. The whole point of feminism and social equality is that it offers women a choice. I hate hate HATE it when women are made to feel bad because they choose to be full time Mum's instead of having a career or juggling kids and a job.

CHOICE, people! Remember choice?

All that being said, that is NOT what feminism is about. Feminism is about giving women of all lifestyles a voice as well as giving them the freedom to choose whatever life they wish to live, without constraint and without shame.

I know a lot of people assume you have to be a ground-breaking ball-busting man-hating I'll-show-'em-I'm-better-than-they-ever-could-be type to be a feminism, but that's a deeply misguided outlook. Feminism has had a lot of bad press, but it's a truly important social movement and one I believe in deeply.

Plus Joss supports it, so it has to be cool

Not bad. Had a bit of a tummy upset over the weekend, which is happening far too often for my liking. Feeling better today though. The fact that we absolutely trounced the English rugby team on Saturday helped a lot perked me right up!

Great match, and I happen to think England played very well. We just played better! So now I'm hoping we can keep it up for the duration of the Six Nations. Oh please... oh please...

Apologies to non-european non-rugby fans who have no idea what I'm on about.

I'm glad to hear that your team did well, though I don't watch it myownself (I wouldn't mind getting into it).

The Scot I mentioned in the pub is an ex-Ranger (army) that used to play rugby all over the world wherever he was deployed and hearing him talk about it makes me want to try it out.

Yeah, I'd be forced to burn a vac day...need to keep those in case Tidbit gets sick. Now, if they tell me to go home, I'm paid for the rest of the day. That won't happen. The road crews did a great job and though we got 6" of snow yesterday, the roads are just wet.

Did you have a good weekend???

My new truck will be loaded on the new car carrier in Miami and will be making its way North tomorrow! I am so excited! New wheels! I should be getting it around March 2nd or 3rd!

edit: Don't get me fired up about hotlinking again! But I would have to agree...hot links ARE better than cold ones...

I had a great weekend, I got to play with my boys a lot and hang out/drink with my parents' neighbor Harley.

I'll keep an eye out for your car, maybe I can see it passing through middle Georgia Well, that really depends on whether they use 75 or 95.

As for the hotlinking, I try not too, but sometimes I am in too much of a hurry/too lazy to do it right. I am pretty anal retentive about these sorts of things, and usually when I post something I'll want access to it again, possibly from some other computer, so putting it on my 'bucket just makes sense.

ie: I have 361 of these and their brethern and sistern:

Glad you had fun with the boys!

Unless they are picking up a car in GA, I couldn't imagine them using any other hwy than 95. Funny, I was told it is burnt orange, but I found out over the weekend it is actually forest green. (I am sooo happy! Beggars can't be choosers, but I really wasn't looking forward to tootling around in a burnt orange Element...)

When I found out the real story behind hotlinking, and how it effects websites and their rates, I knew I'd never do it again.

And I agree...My 'bucket has lots of stuff in it that I want to keep. I found this Christmas Mutant Enemy the other day:

So of course I had to save it. Saving it is half the fun, imo.

Coworkers are trickling in. Time to get to work. See you guys a little later!

I used to add stuff to my googlepages with reckless abandon, but realised recently I couldn't delete stuff! So now I'm careful just to add the stuff I want, although I have other means for adding more banners to my site if needed. And still keeping plenty of smilies for posting

Well the Oscars was kind of fun. I like it when no one film wins in tons of catagories.

So how was everyone's weekend?

HUGS RIMG!

Stupidly enough...the color mix up was mine! I had it in my head it was that gawdawful orange. And I flippin' drove that Element around Lauderdale to and from the Hospital when my Uncle was dying. Chalk it up to grief. I drove it but didn't pay attention to the color.

RIMG, I love the tie fighter gassing up! That is great!

I didn't watch the Oscars. Since the Directv was out, Husband & I absorbed multiple eps of Rome tivo'd from HBO. What a great show.

Ever since we got one of those Tempur-Pedic mattress pads (memory foam), I can't feel ANY bed movement. That stuff is amazing.

mornin' MsG

I watched the OSCARs on and off, flipped over to Sin city at one point (it was on some movie channel or another) and stayed there. I agree, it is better when the awards are spread out among several good movies. Watching award shows, however, just reminds me of all of the movies that I wanted to see but never got to.

Weekend was good, had the kids, and went to see my parents for a day.

Well, since the Oscars don't finish 'till about 6am here and I had to work this morning, I did NOT watch them live. Although I used to watch them live every year (taking the next day as a holiday) - I fell out of the habit in recent years. They show recaps at a more reasonable hour, but I prefer the live show with all the great speeches by shocked recipients of the lesser known awards, things going wrong and the funny fillers by that year's host. I really wanted to see Ellen! What was she like? Did she get a B+ for Billy Crystal, or a D- for David Letterman?

Mav- ah sometimes my brain does that too:)

See I like watching the Oscars 'cause sometimes it's fun to play the game ( you know pick your winners and at the end see who guessed the most right) and because then I hear about all these movies I want to see.

Weird communication style aside (I hope it didn’t involve piccies of his eh-hmmmm), do I detect a prejudice against…midgets??? Okay so you’re tall (you’re tall, aren’t you?). So? Guinea pigs are too small for implants; we generally use other animals.... We even saved a race horse! But that's another story and I'm not sure if patient confidentiality would be in play... *snikker*

We know what you do for a living…!

You put implants into dogs via Hobbleit’s invention!

DESKTOPHIPPIE

Hi back, Jonny

Can I just point this out - I think people are feeling too obliged to respond to everyone in the thread. I know people can feel ignored sometimes if no one responds to them, but I don't think posters should be put under pressure to say hello to everybody.

Maybe I'm taking it the wrong way, but I just think it gets a bit silly when you find a bunch of posts starting with "Hi MSG, PR, Mav, Penguin, Hobbleit, RIMG, Jonny, Rugbug, NVG, Odds, YinYang, CaliforniaKaylee, Macqyver, HK, Asortafairytale, Versy, Rhyianan, Madga, ZZetta and anyone I missed!" It's sort of like those speeches at the Oscars where people try to rhyme off the names of everyone they've ever met in thirty seconds. In fact, it may save time just to mention any posters you are ignoring!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I've got some memory foam mattress pads, and they're the only thing making my bed sleepable. You can bet if I had an extra several hundred dollars I would have an actual tempur-pedic mattress...

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

You talk like that's a good thing...(?)

I would say "Hi, PR!" but apparently it's in bad taste to acknoledge your friends. I have it on the best authority. so please don't think I'm ignoring you.

MisterG and I love ours..memory foam rocks!! it's not the movement that's waking me when he tosses and turns, it's the creaking of the antique bed and it's joints that do it. However one of my friends just bought me fantastic ear plugs so hopefully that'll do the trick.

DTH- hmm I guess it's just our all inclusive spirit or something... and now I shall ask you a Winnie the Pooh type question ( as you're in Ireland ) is it raining out there? Because it's raining in here too ( well snowing really, but hey it's all water)
