I know what you mean.I want the next book very badly, but I don't want the series to end either.

And only 608 pages ?? Seems a bit short for a final book to me..I pray that she does the series justice in the eend ..unlike my other favorite series ( Dark Tower by Stephen king ) which was ruined by the time the end came..

My apologies.....

I thought this thread was about getting smokey.

Yeah.... Potter is pretty cool. I still haven't read number 6 and believe it or not, I've managed not to have that one ruined for me. I won't be back to this particular discussion because until I read 6, I don't want to accidentally find out who died. Here's hoping the ending is as good as the series has been so far.

I think I read on the Leaky Cauldron site that the UK edition is 608, but the US version is around 688. This might have been updated with the reveal of the cover this morning. If it's still around 688 that make it about the same length as OOP. I can't imagine how she is going to answer everything in so few pages! Ha! I was hoping for 1000+ pages! It is kind of bittersweet. I am thrilled to finally know everything, but sad that there will be nothing to look forward to!

Each book has been looked for with much anticipation, but the actual process of buying the books is a pain in me arse and me purse! I have 2 readers - so that means 2 books off the bat. Then of course, they started reading them in England, so that means after they purchase and read the US edition(reading will be completed in less than a day as they read really fast), we will have to post a cheque to England for a friend to get us two (2) of the UK editions and post them back. Gets quite expensive. Thats before we take in account the paperbacks!

The book and I are already in a struggle for power.

The book comes out on july 21st, my birthday is july 28th.

I'm a pretty fast reader, but with it being so close to my birthday I don't know if I'll have the time.

I am turning the big 2-0, and everyones been telling me to keep that week clear they have plans for me.

So I'm conflicted.

You're too old to read kids books now anyways. Put down the book and pick up the bottle. You've only got one more year of drinking ahead of you before it's not cool anymore.

Turn off your phone and read for two days straight. That's what I do. When the last book came out, I changed my voicemail to say "This is Rose and I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Please leave me a message and I'll get back to you when I finish it." a surprising number of people did, in fact, try to get ahold of me, and they all giggled on their messages when they realized I had been serious when I said I would be unreachable. But reading most of the day for a day and a half, I was done. Then I read it again, a bit more leisurly.
And it's not a ruttin kid's book. Harry is 17, full grown by the standards of his world, and facing trauma and death. It stopped being a series for kids when Cedric died and Harry became and angsty teen yelling at people and thinking about girls. So there

1. I am older than you. And wiser. Respect your elders.

2. Because my Uncle told me they were good after I spent years making fun of my friend who was older than you who was reading kids books. He lent me the first three and I was very suprised.

3. Read books because you think they're good, or because somebody who's opinion you respect says they're good, not because everybody else is reading them. Most of the paper used to make the books on the bestseller lists would be better used as toilet paper. Particularly anything on Oprah's book of the month club. If you don't fear whatever "thing-o-the-day" the masses are flocking to, you should at least be wary of it going in.

4. Gotta admit that crazy little pothead is one cool cat.

5. Seriously, go get drunk on your birthday. I still do it now, but it's magic waines just a little more every year since it's become legal for me to do so.

1.I agree, there are a few authors other people have turned me onto like Zane and Eric Jerome Dickey. But those authors books SHOULD NOT BE READ BY CHILDREN.(Just a warning)But I read anything that peaks my attention.

2.I plan on it.

Meh, I really don't care for the movies. I don't think they do the feel of the series any justice. It 20 years, I hope someone who grew up reading the books makes new movies. Or even better, a miniseries for each book. HBO could do well with something like that, and a format like that would let them tell the story without cutting most of it away.
I stopped watching after the second one. Books are better.

Also, lock your door and hide in the basement if you have one

The leading theory is that the trio is breaking into a vault in Gringott's Bank, and running into something unexpected.

The two covers clearly depict different incidents in the book. The full American cover (wraparound style) is pretty intriguing, since it shows Harry and You-Know-Who together but not deulling each other. What could they possibly be looking at?

I always had a feeling harry was a browncoat.

The movies wouldn't be half bad if they would have kept Alfonso Cuaron as the director.

For those who don't know he directed Azkaban.

I'm surprised by the color scheme of this cover art in the US version. The covers for Phoenix and Prince were dark, creepy, monochrome, and entirely fitting with the increasingly dark nature of the plot as a whole.

While it's obviously true that in this book Harry has to ultimately triumph, it's probably a safe bet that he's going to do so at terrible personal cost - even more so than he already has. (Hopefully - please JKR - not Ginny...)

I was expecting something like a deep purple or even black as the primary color for the cover of this one. Not a triumphal gold. Doesn't set the mood I would have expected for the direction things are going in the story...
