And beautiful. You forgot beautiful.

I did. When written properly, it's quite lovely.
I think the same of all written languages, though, when they're formed in an artistically / aesthetically appealing manner.

Aw, Mavourneen, I didn't mean for my reply to imply that everyone who gets Chinese (or Japanese... or any foreign language, for that matter) does it for such shallow reasons....

You have an actual life experience to accompany your tattoo.

I'm talking about the other people. You can only imagine how many times I've seen
tattooed on people... as if, yes, how clever, "love" means so much more when written in Chinese.

It's not exactly the same point, but you get something a bit similar with ogham. Each ogham symbol itself represents a letter of the Irish alphabet, but since it was the system of writing used by the druids theres also a tradition that each symbol represents a tree (mostly from the Celtic tree calendar - the romans had bulls and water carriers and twins, we had trees) and since trees have a long tradition in Irish folklore, mythology and druidic ritual it means that each symbol becomes imbued with meaning. So the letter "u" becomes "Ur" which is heather, which implies healing and renewal and I've just realised I'm quite possibly boring anyone who isn't me to tears.

Sorry guys. I read way too much. Babbling like a moonbrain is one of the symptoms.

*waves to NVG and 6ixstring* Hey guys

Years ago, HBO had a show called "Not Necessarily the News", Kind of a Weekend Update/Daily Show kind of thing. They came out with a book, too. In that book was a fake ad which read (and--don't know why--I never forgot it): "Coffee and a Cigarette: the Fastest Laxative you can buy without a perscription"

I'll end with some lyrics from the thread's title song, as I am out to lunch now.

En el otro lado es donde vivi,
con mi hijita, que se llama mixie,
y su hermana, si me quiere,
y horita, tenemos un bebe,

Sus padres sus tios me trataron matar
but they did not get too far
un poco despues tuve que regresar
con un chingo de dinero cause you know im a star

me fui a costa rica
para tomar y sufear
placticaba con la rasa
cause they know who we are

Si no me dio cuenta
then i bet you never will
you must be a muneca
if your still standing still

and it went - uhh
and the girl caress me down- uhh
and thats that lovin sound- it went uhh
and the girl caress me down- uhh
and thats that lovin sound

Me gusta mi reggae,
Me gusta punk rock,
Pero la cosa que me gusta mas es panochita,
Ponga la nalga en la aire if you know who you are,
Ponga la nalga en la aire y empieza gritar,

No tenga miedo, Im your papi,
take your chones, y los manden a mi,
levanta, levanta, tienes que gritar,
levanta, levanta, tienes que bailar.

It was supposed to Start at 10 am. This one attorny call at 10:18. My attorny is late. He tells me he will start without us(we are supposed to questiom-i ordered the reporter so its on our bill) so i get his # and i call my attorny. The trains that go out there have stopped running. So i call the attorny back-he doesn't answer, but i leave a messege

New stratgey- I call the Reporting agency and tell them to have her stop typing- the nice girl from the agency says ok..She puts me on hold to get this guy on the phone. He goes WILD ON HER. (This guy is supposed to be proffesional)I call him to see what the hell and this is the interchange

Me: Hello sir. We have an attorny on his way

Him: Hello (sweetly) My name is *bleep* Thank you for your consent

Me: What consent??

Him: Interupting * Have a nice day* click

I call the reporting agency back and she tells me he has disconnected the phone and locked the door.

Well as long as MrG isn't planning on using the Serenity logo as a bullseye I guess I'm ok with...wait no I'm not. I still think tattoos are dumb. And how are you going to feel when Joss loses his mind George Lucas style and Serenity Episode I comes out? There will be a goofy CGI reaver that joins teenage Mal on a slap stick adventure where he falls for princess Hillary Duff. Right about then laser removal is going to sound pretty sweet.

Well, as you are distinctly in the minority here with your non-tattooed body, I think the correct phrase you should have used is : "I still think a tattoo is not for me."

Humans have been tattooing themselves for several thousand years. If it ain't for you, no problem. But if it is for someone else, you should respect that, too.

I'm pretty sure I still think it's dumb. I respect lots of people who do dumb things though. I think drinking is dumb. I'm fairly sure that the majority of people do that as well. I don't try to get people to stop doing dumb things. That's not my job. Though I am still going to think they're doing something dumb.

Cuz.

Seriously though it's a fairly permanent disfigurement and in my experience so far there's nothing in my life that has been permanent. I'm fairly certain at some point I'd either be lying to myself that it was a good idea or I'd be regretting whatever I got. Even more importantly bare skin is hot. Especially female bare skin With a tattoo it just adds a big old flaw to something that would otherwise be all sexy.

Yes. I mean no. Well, maybe. Settle for "depends"?

Regardless of ink skin is hot. I like that there is someone around who can show the side of permanancy and its backlash. Especially with the folks who only understand tats from a mainstream perspective. People watch a few episodes of Miami Ink and expect to learn everything from a freakin' TV show. Knowing guys who came up from nothing and walked straight outta hell for the art I deplore the thought of so many people getting cut. And nothing makes me sicker than people who open shops and expect artists to line up and teach them just because they own a shop.

ARRRGGHHH!!! All fired up.
But a good fired up. Thanks Zeek for the view of logic that many lack these days.

ADD: Thanks or the offer TD. Seems I gotta keep from sugar during the day so I tend to dring it black and straight up.

Also, I never exactly knew what a glomp was. Seems I may need to give a few (preferably IRL).

I gotta agree with Zeek on tattoos -- but I would never try to convince anyone else on my point of view. I just know that I'm fickle and can't imagine any image I would want on my body permanently. But that's why I like makeup, hair color, crazy haircuts, henna tattoos, and piercings. Anything that I can easily change my mind on later and/or will reverse itself naturally eventually. If there was a type of tattoo that lasted 1 to 10 years (like how henna only lasts a couple of months), I might consider that.

I have friends with tattoos and none of them have regretted them so far. My husband got one when he was 18, and when we got together 10 years later, he was starting to regret it (I actually kinda like his tattoo, hehe). I don't know anyone over the age of 40 with a tattoo though, so I'm not sure how people start feeling about them after multiple decades.

Um...

...I got mine because it's Celtic and pretty...

*shrug*

EDIT: Hooo-kayyy... looked up "pretty tattoos" in google to convert Zeek and accidentally found a site full of people with 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' inspired tattoos!!!

Its good to finally be able to drop by! Art exam is over, so I have a few weeks break before the other exams start looming on the horizon.
sooo... how is everyone??

Also... I think tatoos are cool, but only in moderation, the odd one, not covered in them. I would like one, and I'd get one in an inconspicuous place, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm terrified of needles.

Unfortuneately, this hi-larious comment has been cancelled by the F** Network.

I really really haven't seen any that I actually think look better than just bare skin but you can try. There is actually one thing that I would list on the positive side for tattoos that I didn't mention cause it obviously doesn't help my case. But a tattoo that no one sees except your SO cause it's in a normally hidden area does sorta make it something special and cool. Though I think I'd still be extremely anti-tattoo for any SO.

EDIT: oh oh oh this brings up what they were talking about on the radio today. Would you be upset to the point of breaking up if you started going out with someone and things progressed enough in the bedroom to the point where you found out they wore some sort of appearance altering stuff. I.E. padded bra or like a girdle or something. The guys were saying it's false advertising and the women were defending it. Until the guys asked what they'd do if they dated a dude who wore a girdle or some sort of fake muscles. They said they'd dump the guy immediately.
