Guys and gals,
I decided to sale my 3 ft paper model I built (from plans provided by sean aka Armorbimbo at paperworlds.com)in anticipation of buying the 20 inch replica that Quantum Mechanix will be putting out later this year. I built this one because at the time there were NO models available of Serenity. Not even the ornament. So now I figured it was time for someone else to enjoy it.

Later,
Mike

How easy would it be to ship this safely?

The way it it mounted prevents it from sliding. A large box will prevent the sides from reaching the ship if it is dented slightly. Otherwise it will be packed with foam. The ship is actually a lot less fragile than you might think.

Thanks,
Mike

What a bunch of bullshit!

I was the winning bidder, but the seller is backing out - he didn't make enough money. That's so lame.

*sniff*

This was going to be maniacnumberone's birthday present. We were talking on the phone when the auction ended. "Happy Birthday!" I said, he was so happy.

Then we got stabbed in the back. What a shame.

This is a pretty crappy deal .
If he wanted more for it, he should have placed a reserve amount on the auction.
Definately leave negative feedback if he doesn't sell it to you at the winning bid price.

If in fact no reserve was established, here's what to do:

Contact eBay. A seller is not allowed to back out of a sale, any more than a buyer is. The seller should have set a reserve if there was a minimum price he wanted. If he didn't, even if he didn't know about reserve prices, he has to go through with it -- it's a contract. (Even a reserve auction is no exception; if a reserve price is established and not met, there's no sale, so you wouldn't have "won" the auction.)

Assuming you received notice from eBay that you did win, eBay will ensure that the seller goes through with the sale, or will terminate his eBay account if he still refuses to sell.

This behavior is very un-Browncoaty. You do the job; you get paid. If you don't like the payment you end up with... you shouldn't have taken the job.

So what I'm hearing is that no one ever makes mistakes here...is that it? A reserve was suppose to be on the auction. For some reason that did not happen. I made a mistake and was upfront with the potential buyer about it. I could have ignored his e-mails. Taken his money without giving him product. But I didn't. I made a mistake and owned up to it. I have very carefully tried to explain this to him in two e-mails. But instead I have a bunch of Browncoats talking about how terrible I am. This is very dissapoining. I have a respect for all of you. I do have morales and feel bad that I dissapointed the potential buyer and a fellow browncoat.
As for my e-bay account as far as i'm concered I will close that account. And possibly FFF.net. No one is allowed to make mistakes here apparently.
If I were selling any other thing I would have followed through with the auction. But since I thought there was a reserve and considering how long it took me to build the ship. I could not follow through.
I bid you guys and gals farewell.
Mike

Never. Never would we want a fellow browncoat to call it quits. thats what the browncoats are about! We make it through hard times together and when we dont we find someone to carry us. Mike16309 I will carry you. we know you spent alot of time on your project. I dont think it fair that if you explained yourself before the auction was finished, that the potential buyer not understand that. You might be obligated to sell but i know if i where the potential buyer and another BROWNCOAT explained as you did i could work a deal. make a mini model for free- give it to the potential buyer and reprice the other one and donate half to charity. everyone wins. what do ya think? Together to the end!

He DID NOT explain himself until AFTER the auction had ended. I was the winner, and sent 2 requests for final invoice before he wrote back telling me no.

Mike, you are full of shit. You had a week to look at your listing – a listing you created. You backed out because you assumed the bids would be higher. The fact is, only four people bid on it, and you weren’t happy with the final sales price.

We had a legal contract and you broke it for a few extra bucks. Shame on you.

The auction ran a WEEK and he never noticed he never put a reserve on it? What an idiot.

Everybody is right.
We do have respect for our fellow Browncoats but you backed out of a deal. You can only back out if both parties deicde it is ok.

I think no matter what you should sell it to him for whatever price he bid on it. There is no need to delete your eBay and FFF.net account. Just say you are sorry and give him his item he won fair and square.

I was sort of letting him choose what he thought was the lesser of two evils: To be thought a liar or to be thought an idiot.

Succatash should file a Nonperforming Seller complaint against the seller. Prolly won't actually force him to go through with the sale but eBay may NARU him, anyway. Maybe.

Well, I filed a Non-Performance complaint and gave the seller a negative review. I guess that's the end of it, nothing more I can do.

It's just shitty, that's all.

i didn't mean to get drawn into this, but.... actually i have had two bad experiences with eBay - yeah, it took two, but like georgie boy says, fool me once ah, ah ah..... nevermind...

When it comes to eBay, all I can say is buyer beware.... (and go to a real store and pay full price, for crying out loud....)

In this case, Dayve, it's a one-of-a-kind item that can't be bought in a store.

Mike, the mistake was yours, unless you can demonstrate that you actually set a reserve and eBay somehow deleted it. That doesn't seem even remotely likely. In my opinion, you should go through with the sale. But it looks like you aren't planning to step up, so... bye.

Very sorry about the disappointment, Succatash. Sadly, though, there's nothing you (or anyone) can do to force the buyer to complete the sale, except bring eBay pressure to bear. If he doesn't care about that, all you can do is... hmmm... build your own paper model of Serenity, I guess.

I understand about the one of a kind thing - and I imagine most transactions work out well, but i have stopped using eBay anyway -
just a friendly warning is all...

Mike16309,

I am the person to whom your hand-crafted model ship of Serenity was supposed to have gone. I would have loved to have held her and gazed at her. I have spent more months than you can possibly imagine (years ago during the heyday of Firefly) creating blueprints of the ship by watching episodes. *sigh* Regardless, I bear you no malice or ill will. I think that perhaps a different venue (other than Ebay) would better suit your style of entrepeneurship in the future. As for your leaving Firefly, stay on the ship.

No effin way would you "overlook" a "minor" detail like that. Sounds like the nimrod didnt want to pony up the dough for a reserve and/or didnt have the sack to ask what he wanted for it (and pay for the eBay listing for that). He rolled the dice, took his chances, and came up short of what he wanted. Whaa.

The fact that he listed it here tells me he was hoping to rack up big $$$ for it. This guys is a total wanker and the reason I dont use eBay.

I hate to see so many people that hate E-BAY! I have a small Comic/Gaming shop that happens to be Headquarters for the SEBC Tennessee Browncoats and because this town is soooooo small I do rely a lot on my E-Bay store to keep us flyin' some months! So if you guys ever see CLOCKTOWER COMICS auction on E-BAY....IT's ME!
YOU CAN BUY AND GET YOUR STUFF!!!!!

Some people give anything a bad name but there are a few of us still doin' good works!
