Why is Serenity not on imdb top250?

I will give an answer. Three different numbers are attached too each movie. 1. rating (rat) 2. weighted average (wav) 3. arithmetic average (aav)

Here follows the top12+1 on imdb. rat wav aav The Godfather 9.1 9.1 8.6 Shawshank redemption 9.1 9.2 9.0 The Godfather II 9.0 9.0 8.7 Buono, il brutto... 8.8 8.9 8.9 Pulp Fiction 8.8 8.8 8.7 Return of the King 8.8 8.8 8.5 Casablanca 8.8 8.8 8.6 Schindler's List 8.8 8.8 8.5 Return of the Jedi 8.8 8.8 8.6 Seven Samurais 8.7 8.8 8.5 One flew over... 8.8 8.7 8.7 Starwars 8.7 8.8 8.6

Serenity 7.8 8.0 8.6

As can be seen the arithmetic mean of Serenity is in the big league,but not so much the rating or the weighted average.

Serenity has the votes. The arithmetic average doesn't lie. Could be that many browncoats have rated only Serenity, and maybe even underrated other movies. That many of our votes have been filtered off.

What we have to do, is go to imdb.com and rate a lot of movies, to become regulars.

What I am gonna do is this, overrate movies that are no threat to Serenity and underrate movies above Serenity, not by much, give them 4 or 5.

Know this, it pains me to underrate certain movies, Matrix, LOTR, even Starwars. But my purpose is clear, I want more of firefly and Serenity and the Captain and River and everybody.

Is it obsessive, yes. Is it extreme, yes.

But in guerilla warfare, innocents will be harmed. To battle. I love all you browncoats. Keep fighting, and keep flying.

Don't know if you've noticed, but for some reason there is sort of an anti-fandom out there who deliberately sabotages the efforts of Browncoats when it comes to this sort of thing. Surely I can't have been the only one to notice?

Yes, I have noticed. Serenity has an unusual high frequency of 1 rates. But that does not explain the low rating versus arithmetic average.

If you note Serenity's in-depth ratings ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/ratings ), the Top 1000 User's average rating is 6.2. I believe this relatively low rating is backlash from so many people signing up on imdb just to vote 9s/10s for Serenity.

Additionally, I suspect any attempt to artificially increase Serenity's weighted average will lead to more backlash.

Just thought I'd do this for people who still don't get it or can't be bothered to read if its okay Grotz

now I know for a fact that these so called regular voters make up just 1000 members out of all the members on imdb.com cause imdb used to say it on the FAQ, not anymore though but if you need proof then look at this picture(below) of Serenity's ratings towards the bottom you see "Top 1000 voters" Serenity only has a 6.2 average from the 1000 voters so its quite a way off 7.9 which would be needed to get into the top 250

Thank you Darkfly, for the charts. But it is not only top1000 that make the rating, then rating should be much lower. I would think that the number of movies you have rated have much influence on the weighted average. It makes sense, they want raters, not crazy fans who rate only the movies they like. So to get the weighted average up we must be perceived more as raters, by rating as many movies as possible.

There seem to many haters among the top1000, 48 out of 346, (13.9%) have given a rating of 1. That is many, 3% is the norm.

The anti-fandom is completely incomprehendable to me. Going out of your way, to take something down other people love, make no sense to me. Still we are obsessive. Take that poll about female action heroes, Summers name is not in list still she leads over Sarah(Buffy). If Summer wins that one, I think we will hear something. Keep flying.

And I ranked them all honestly. If I thought they were comparatively good or bad I rated them as such.
