Hey copilot...well we were discussing hypno-ducks, but no one could find any ( someone was working on a master plan to use ducks to take over the world) so we moved on to the hypno-toad

Being that ducks are out to conquer the world anyway, all he needs to do is learn to speak duck-ish so he can join forces with the ducks. The ducks will probably want to run Parliament when all is said and done though, so he should keep that in mind from the outset.

And while we're on the topic, I've long felt that ducks are a totem animal for me, even though I've never really thought much about totems. I've thought ducks were possibly the coolest animals on the planet since I was little (at a young age, I thought ducks were the only animals that could swim, fly, and walk on land), I've often lived near ducks, inherited a collection of wooden duck decoys from my father-in-law, and was even bit by a duck less than 10 minutes before getting engaged. Our condo complex now has a bunch of waterways and thus a lot of ducks, and they seem to like me, hehe. No luck learning to speak duck-ish yet, though.

well it would depend on whether or not they were evil ducks. I mean what with the Noah's flood loophole and all... ( you know it floods, but that wouldn't kill ducks, other water fowl, or fish)

So hmm. Well I used to have a duck border wallpaper( my sister colored on the feet of each duck in green so they'd have grass)

OK mocking my students is such fun...they've been whining and complaining and I told them it was so sad and I was so sorry for them that they had to read 4 pages and answer some multiple choice questions and one of my kiddies said " you're not sorry you're laughing at our misery...we can tell" ( all in joking way of course...)it was so funny:)

Hence the whole "learn to speak duck-ish" thing. They can fly, walk, swim, and aim, you just need to be able to coordinate the attacks.

Waaay late with this, but hopefully not too late.

Animal Totem - Duck

Ducks are the largest and most diverse group of waterfowl. Frequently males and females are colored differently (the males having brighter plumes), and have different vocal sounds.

They prefer being in places where they are comfortable and will return to those places. They have a strong sense of community and are social.

Duck reminds us that we sometimes need to return to the parts of ourselves that need to feel safe and comfortable.

Duck also teaches us to be graceful when handling our emotions and to drink sustenance from the waters of life.

MSG! I can now totally relate! I am now teaching teenagers as well (and questioning what horror I must have committed in a past life to deserve this!). My students range from 15 to 50!
I'm actually about to start teaching teenagers about ducks! We got some day old ducklings in over Easter. I'm hoping that when they ask what we're going to be doing on Monday and I say "Handling baby ducklings" I won't get the obligatory groan of boredom but it's a longshot as the snakes, ferrets, llamas, hedgehog and sugar-gliders all failed to get them motivated! Sigh!

It's nice being able to see animals every now and then when you're in the city or the suburbs. I'm lucky in that there's an open farm very close to me where I can go and be at one with nature We see foxes around the place quite a bit too, especially when I'm walking home late at night.

For inquiring minds like me!

Sugar Glider

The Sugar Glider is around 16 to 20 cm (6.3 to 7.5 inches) in length, with a tail almost as long as the body and almost as thick as a human thumb, and weighs between 90 and 150 grams (3 to 5.3 oz). The fur is generally pearl grey, with black and cream patches at the base of the black or grey ears. Other colour variations include leucistic and albino recessive traits. The tail tapers only moderately and the last quarter of it is black, often with a dark tip. The muzzle is short and rounded. Northern forms tend to be brown coloured rather than grey and, as predicted by Bergmann's Rule, smaller.

The most noticeable features of its anatomy, however, are the twin skin membranes called patagium which extend from the fifth finger of the forelimb back to the first toe of the hind foot. These are inconspicuous when the Sugar Glider is at rest — it merely looks a little flabby, as though it had lost a lot of weight recently — but immediately obvious when it takes flight. The membranes are used to glide between trees: when fully extended they form an aerodynamic surface the size of a large handkerchief.

The gliding membranes are primarily used as an efficient way to get to food resources. They may also, as a secondary function, help the Sugar Glider escape predators like goannas, introduced foxes and cats, and the marsupial carnivores, such as quolls, the Kowari, mulgaras, and antechinuses that foxes, cats, and dingos largely supplanted. The ability to glide from tree to tree is clearly of little value with regard to the Sugar Glider's avian predators, however, in particular owls and kookaburras.

Although its aerial adaptation looks rather clumsy in comparison to the highly specialised limbs of birds and bats, the Sugar Glider can glide for a surprisingly long distance — flights have been measured at over 50 metres (55 yd) — and steer effectively by curving one or other of the patagium. It uses its hind legs to thrust powerfully away from a tree, and when about 3 metres (3 yd) from the destination tree trunk, brings its hind legs up close to the body and swoops upwards to make contact with all four limbs together.

Good Morning, Coolerites!!!

DTH, My house backs to a large park that is a samll finger of a much larger forest land that surrounds Washington DC and we regularly get tons of deer (and their gross little droppings), raccoons, possums, and assorted other fauna. A few years ago, we heard a howling noise every night for about a week. Husband suspected it was some sort of wild cat, like a bobcat or something. And we are 8 miles away from the DC line.

The only spark I managed to ignite was when I mentioned that these little marsupials each have two penises! The females have two wombs as well, working in series! They make a fantastic noise when grumpy as well, imagine a whole crowd of asthmatic Harley Davisons coming from something the length of your thumb!

I'm possibly being unfair to my students. Some of them actually seem to LIKE animals! Not quite sure why the others bother coming in.

Emma- hugs it's a teenager thing. They often feign indifference for no apparent reason ( usually they are just feeling insecure) Hang in there. It does get better. Just remember, no matter what, never get upset:) Usually when they say rude things to me or stuff that bothers me I say " good to know" and move on. Tends to break their stride:)

I have already grumbled about the tallness of RIMG and Tristan..and Jonny, ( and just about everyone else) I always end up looking like the munchkin..sigh

Oh well it shall be very fun no matter how teensy I look...oh but Roxy will be there...we can be teensy together:)...oh and your sister:)

Still remember when I was in 5th grade and so tiny that the boys played keep away with me ( not with my books with me...tossing me around)Luckily my friend Chris pretty much threatened to cave them in if they kept it up so it stopped:)

Morning all...I may seem a bit rambling today as it's been several days with very little sleep:)

Other things are always nice

*edit* And for the record I've always had a thing for shorter women. (I'm 6'1" and my fiance's 5'6")

May you have enough.

I wouldn't worry about being less than average height, MsG. Guys really love small women that they can get protective over! I'm 5'10 in bare feet and have had men back off mid chattup as soon as I stand up. They have such fragile egos and are so easily intimidated by tall women. Sigh!
