If the S.E dominates sales?

I mean, the TV series continues to dominate DVD sales and the movie has forced Universal to release an S.E.

Nathan, Joss and all of the cast are not on any other major commitments and the franchise has stayed strong.

I can't help but feel that Joss kind of gave up on the franchise after Serenity. If he had pursued a sequel or more firefly with the same passion and intent that he pursued Serenity we might have something back.

I really believe 2007 is the make or break year for us. If nothing happens, we go from people with a cause to people with nothing but memories to discuss.

Wow, what a random post, sorry everytime i watch an episode I get all emotional and decide to subject you all to my thoughts.

How frustrating it is to be a browncoat.

Please, someone, anyone, post something that will lift my spirits. Lie to me even. I dont care

Buffy: "Lie to me."

Giles: "Yes. It's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true. The bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies... and everyone lives happily ever after."

That's all I've got. I don't remember where I heard this quote but I think it applies for a lot of things. "You can't fail if you don't give up." So we just won't give up.

i believe that if anything is to be put into motion it'll be done in 2007. the contracts run out this year and the SE DVD is coim out, if anything is to happen it is now.
i know its been a while since we've heared anything besides "not yet", but hey if we keep going we might be able to get what we need.

And i think that the newer browncoats (like me) need to step up and help our older veterans to market our heroes. I personaly have no ideas but thats why we got this website, ideas away!!

Joss has not given up on Firefly/Serenity. If he had,we would have Firefly Season 2 the comic series like there is Buffy Season 8 comic series and Angel Season 6 comic series. Instead we are getting another Serenity 3-issue comic. Serenity: Better Days. September 2007. The first 3-issue comic is collected in Graphic novel Serenity: Those Left Behind.

Joss just doesn't have 40 million dollars. Nathan doesn't have 40 million dollars. None of the other Big Darn Heroes has 40 million dollars. I don't have 40 million dollars.

Universal has 40 million dollars. Universal has until the September or the end of this year to make a decision on a sequel. If they say no, that is when Joss can shop around.

The difference between Buffy and Firefly/Serenity is that all the actors want to do more Firefly/Serenity. They and Joss want to tell more stories in the 'verse.

So we hold. And we buy Serenity Special Editions. And we go to Serenity Screenings on the Big Darn Screen. And we buy Firefly/Serenity Official Merchandise. And we support the Big Darn Heroes and Joss where we can.

Need ideas?

Firefly and Serenity Guerilla Marketing

Here is a shiny idea: Hold Charity Serenity Screenings in June 2007 in 50 cities around the world and raise over $100,000 for charity. Sound impossible? In 2006, oganizers held events in 47 cities around the world, raising over $65,000 for charity.

Very good point.

Also the Star Trek movies for the "original series" did not happen for a years after the series ended; and were spread over quite the range.

First of all, listen to Anony, she is very wise.

She has been here and watched all of this unwind and knows how strong the fandom is and she's not suggesting anything that's not possible.

All of her suggestions, particularly regarding the screenings for charity in June are excellent.

I'd also suggest you find the ideas presented by TDBrown in the guerrilla marketing thread about writing Sci-Fi for a summer series run or a marathon in May and June and July... you get my drift.

Been hearing rumours Joss has been hanging out at the Lucas ranch, now mind you these are just rumours I've heard, I can't confirm. Maybe if someone looked into it thay can confirm or deny. I'm not trying to get any hopes up, just something I wanted to share, so don't anyone go off saying it's true until it can be double checked.

I always wondered what would happen if those two got together

*imagines giant two head monster with one head as Joss Whedon and the other Geogre Lucas, shooting heat rays from their eyes into a busy Tokyo street*

Oh sorry off topic, but Joss is a big fan of Lucas it could be just him meeting a hero. But ill wait and see as well.

I'd love it to be Firefly/Serenity related talks, but I wonder if Mr L is looking for directors for his upcoming StarWars TV series?

Joss does StarWars, now there's a weird thought.

Oh good lord. Whedon and Lucas? I'm sorry, but there's no way that rumor is true. Also, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

ETA:

Here is Joss talking movies with Wizard Entertainment: "But right now, I’m interested in doing “Goners,” which is my own thing, as opposed to somebody else’s. I find that doing someone else’s thing is not working out so well for me—anywhere but in the word of actual comics. "

And here's Joss talking TV with Wizard Entertainment: "I also just don’t want to get trampled on. So I’m a little skittish ... “Trampled on” as in having someone cancelling out from under you two things in one year. When a story doesn’t get finished being told, or you’re the victim of wrong-headed business decisions that nobody even seems to be losing sleep over, you really don’t want to walk in that world anymore. So, I’m not interested in telling stories that nobody is going to see."

*head explodes*

ETA:

"Goners" is to be produced by Mary Parent and Scott Stuber for Universal. None of those three elements has anything to do with George Lucas.

I don't think you get to take credit if true, but not take responsibility for spreading it if false.

I think we could get more acomplished if we had a militant branch, I'll volunteer. Just Kidding!

But do not give up Hope! Instead remember this quote from a scifi movie that I have altered slightly to fit the circimstances

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the 8th of June, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, annihilation, oppression, or persecution... but from cancelation. We are fighting for our right to live on. To exist. And should we win the day, the 8th of June will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We will have another Firefly or Serenity!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

Keep flying and remember, They said that it was impossible to make a movie based on a show that only lasted 13 episodes. But we did the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

It is my thinking that Universal is likely to wait until the 3rd or 4th quarter of the year (more likely the 4th) before deciding on a sequel. This gives execs time to see how sustained DVD and season 1 sales are over that period of time and to actually make money on the movie now that they've recouped their costs.

I bought the original DVD, Season 1, and even the movie soundtrack and I'll also buy the extended DVD as well. The more profit Universal sees, the more likely they'll be to sign off on another movie.

When I think of some of the big budget lame sequels that have been made in recent years, I've got to think that Serenity has a good chance of a sequel. Personally, I think it was one of the best scifi flicks to appear since The Matrix. Call me biased (I am), but the chemistry of the main charachters, the storyline, the fascinating culture created by Whedon for both the series and the movie, those are all very compelling and interesting.

Now, my other hope is that the "new technologies" talked about in the Firefly series also includes cloning so that we can get Shepherd Book and Wash back. :-)

Quick question regarding Alan Tudyk (Wash) from the series. Did any of you see him in "A Knight's Tale"?

First of all, I loved that movie. Secondly, Alan was so funny, I thought he was great in that movie. When I saw him on Firefly, I knew he would be good there too.

BROWNCOATSANDINISTA

I think what we need is a Browncoat Missions team, going around and spreading the signal by performing acts of charity and kindness. We could do it in the gulf, in Taiwan, in the areas hit by the Tsunami a couple of years back, and anywhere else that people need other peoples help. I figure if it will work for Mormonism, Catholicism, and other branches of Christianity, it could work for us.

As to Joss meeting Lucas, I think it would be good for Joss to get his name on something artistically interesting within a proven blockbuster franchise like Star Wars. That way, people will be more willing to throw money at him for his own projects. And though Lucas has worked with 20th Century Fox, I think that Joss would be ok with working for Lucasfilm which in a roundabout way works for Fox. Another interesting and farfetched possibility is that Lucas decided to buy the rights to Firefly and that he was meeting with Joss about what to do with them. That'd be nice, don't you think - George Lucas Presents: Joss Whedon's Firefly

The possibilities are endless as long as we keep flying, and hold till the Captain gets back.

"I'm not going to say Serenity is the greatest SciFi movie ever; oh wait yes I am." - Orson Scott Card
