Gotta agree with you there. Haven't seen either of those yet, but how did you feel about Batman Begins and Sin City?

JQ- If the main person casted on the show can't act. There is no hope
In response to comics. I loved Batman begins because it was much more based on the comics more then the previous movies were. Same thing with Spiderman.

I like Sin City better everytime i see it.Its really dark and comic book like. Although i never read the graphic novel the movie hold my interests. I origionally hated it.

Why would people not like Sin City? The acting was great, the cinematography was stunning, and it watches like a comic book! It's brilliant!

Hey, I thought they both gave decent performances. Elijah Wood gave a creepily good performance, actually. And I cut Jessica Alba some slack because she was A) young and B) playing opposite Bruce Willis, which will make anyone look like an amature. She had some good moments, though.

Wow I go away for a bit and the topic still manages to get onto comics and graphic novels.

I liked Sin City through both renditions (paper and film) but you have to step back and treat them as different entities because I read them and added more detail then what was in the pictures and the movie was off a little. Enough that if the cinematography hadn't felt like a comic I might have been mad about it.

Kinda what they messed up with V. (please don't ask for examples cuz it has been years since I read them) There was just something off and the cinematography did not save it.

I'm not asleep because I slept too much yesterday. And Photoshop is addictive. And trading 'you so sexy' pic comments on myspazz is also addicive. Though the reason I call it myspazz there is that it doesn't want to show me any of my newer comments, which is annoying.

Forgive me if I've told this story before.

Back when I was working in an office, a male workmate sat down with our group in the caffeteria and announced "I've just discovered my dream job."

He was a real movie buff, and had been reading information about the upcoming 'Fantastic Four' movie. One little snippit of information released was that Jessica Alba's outfit was so tight, she had to be smeared in vasaline (petroleum jelly) every day just to put it on.

I stared at him.

"...and the job is...?

Him: "Didn't you hear me? Jessica Alba! Vasaline!
Me: What???
Him: Jessica Alba! Vasaline!
Me: ...
Him: With smearing!
Me: ...
Him: I don't think you get this! It's Jessica Alba and she needs her entire body smeared in vasaline!

At that point I turned to the other guys to get confirmation that my workmate had completely lost his mind, only to find them all staring blankly at some internal image of Jessica Alba they alone could see.

Men are weird.

Again I haven't seem Ms. Portman's last outing, but seems like that alone might be ticket-worthy (as if it was still in theaters).

I liked her on Dark Angel, other than that she's just eye candy.

I hate Jenifer Lopez, I can't respect anyone who made so many bad choices in movies.

But the main reason is because she dated Puffy, P.Diddy, Diddy Kong or whatever the hell his name is now.

As you can probably tell I hate him too.

Mmmmmm, Jessica Alba ... vaseline!

And I'm back! Sorry, not just men who can be wierd over near naked curvy cowgirls!

On a related note, one of my friend's husbands used to own a special effects company (he sold it at the age of 26 for an obscene amount of money but that's a different story!) and worked on tomb raider. I remeber my friend telling me very serenely that her husband was off to work strapping squibs or blood sacks or something to Angelina Jolie's body.

What I found most impressive is that when you ask him his favorite memory of working in films he DOESN'T come out with that story but instead waxes lyrical about doing the flaming trebuchet things at the beginning of Gladiator!

This is something over the 95th post on this thread if anyone is wondering, so I'm keeping up my tradition of not getting to read them until somewhere near the end.

I just realized that sometime in the next month is the one year anniversary of my discovering the 'verse.

As a true comic book nerd (who both dreads and looks forward to the day they try and bring Cable & Deadpool to the big screen, along with Preacher and Transmetropolitan), I was somewhat disappointed at the amount of material left out of the Sin City films (or the amount added in, as far as costume authenticity goes, since Nancy's meant to dance wearing a gunbelt, lasso, boots and sometimes a hat).

Having now seen the longer cut of the film, I'm not as miffed, but still would've liked an even more literal translation from page to screen. As for the sequel, it'll probably confuse some people, just like the chronology of the first film did. I'm guessing that eventually there'll be a box set of dvds with the films set out in the order of the books.

*walks into bar and fixes himself the traditional green tea, toast and grabs some fruit hiding behind the bar*

Morning all,

so, in no particular order

I fear no morris dancing, in fact on the american football team I was attempting to play for before my stomach sidelined me (hopefully not for the season) we were trying to persuade the o coach to let us co-ordinate a morris dancing touchdown celebration so maybe it is just a repressed desire combined with the fact that I love Oscar Wilde and that quote has always made me smile.

I loved sin city, not really a comic book nerd (the only two I own are serenity and Maus[that is amazing by the way] and I remember the whole venom storyline from Spiderman so really hoping they don't eff it up in the new move) so had no preconceptions but loved the whole film as eye candy entertainment and thought Mickey Rourke was awesome as Marv!

I can't say Ms Alba does much for me nor vaseline coverage but then I am slightly idiosyncratic in my taste of fantasy women that gets me into trouble with my co-workers as I fail to fall in with their page 3 interests ie. yes I like Angelina Jolie but kinda picked that up from Girl Interrupted but important that we seperate actor from character there as I need to quite clear I don't fancy crazy people, tends to be people with talents so have things for Aimmee Mann, Tori Amos and Beth Orton which are all to do with what their voices do to me (I am an obsessive muso after all!)

Anyway, enough rambline have work to do and shoudl stop mentally wandering, catch you guys in a bit.

"I don't much care where," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I haven't actually read Sin City. Were the storylines at least followed right? (I didn't find it confusing, either, bythe by)

I'm drawn to talent and brains, too. But I can lust after someone gorgeous at times. Just that, on the off-chance I got to do anything about it, I wouldn't. Though I do think Angelina Jolie is a good actress, she doesn't have the same effect on me that, say, Amy Lee does, with those incredible pipes of hers. Or John Rzeznik (singer for the Goo Goo Dolls). Or, you know, an intelligent Browncoat who seems able to read my mind about many things. That kind of stuff.

Um, is it hot in here?

*shakes herself*

Morning Bryce! How are you this fine morning?

*helps herself to the chocolate dipped strawberries*

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Would you tell me, please which way I ought to walk from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
