I shouldn't be allowed to have new game systems. All I wanna do is go on a gaming spending spree. *deep breaths* I can handle this...no need to go buy buy buy!!!!!

It's a very weird conflict cause I'm usually pretty cheap. The two will come to a head if I ever hear about a clearance sale though.

Anyway back to work and picturing everyone in their pajamas. Especially HK

Wow...when it rains, it pours.

Title issues with my old truck, and then Husband called to ask me to come home from work so we could go pick up his truck (his personal one). I said "Where's your work truck?" and he said, "Well, when I quit this afternoon, they kindof wanted it back."

ACK!
(No, not really. His boss is a complete wanker and I've been nudging him to find something else for a while now.)

I guess he finally got fed up being treated like sh*t.
I'm trying not to focus on the fact the mortgage is due today, and Husband is unemployed...
But he's a talented carpenter, and a great manager. He'll find something else quickly.
I hope.

"Every little ting, gonna be alright..."

He went to softball early tonight, no doubt to talk to his best friend about what happened. As he plays for a team composed 1/2 of carpenters & tradesmen, and the other half police officers...and they play against teams made up of the same...I wouldn't be surprised if he gets offered a position within the next 24 hours. I think, that when certain companies find out he's available, he will have a few phone calls.

I'd actually rather him do yard work than laundry, FlyVote...

From the last thread. I'll try to type slower so JQ can follow...
Quote:

HK: "BOSTON LEGAL - just started watching it on DVD while I'm homeless, crashing at friend's place, and I am in love... uh... with it...."
JQ: "Go ahead, say it: 'Shatner'."
HK: "No. Not 'Shatner.' While I thoroughly enjoy his performance on the show, my heart belongs to another: Spader. *dreamy sigh*"
JQ: "Any Spader or just specific roles?"

And now I sum up: Boston Legal. Shatner? No, Spader. What role? Boston Legal.
*can't type any slower... snikker*

Um.
Anyway.

I told her I couldn't send my school loan check to her because all my envelopes were destroyed in the fire.

I'm doing fine, all things considered. I'm just overworked. The Imponderable thread is a great way to lower stress and momentarily "get away". I'm stressed, but I didn't just lose things to a fire.

I wish I had some good advice for you. Really do. Homeless-by-fire isn't an experience that I can draw on (thankfully). I can only say drop by here every so often to unload. Or lean on me via email (flyvote at usbmicro dot com) if you wish. Sometimes collecting thoughts and expressing them as an email is a way for your brain to work things out. I'll listen.

Ok peeps - I need insight. I got this job, Very hectic and bizarrely frantic. Learned everything in about 3 days. (well i learned what to do, but not what eveything meant) Anyway, have made a few mistakes as you do. Bossman spoke to me on Friday, said I was going a "great job" asked me about a few problems (they were not of my doing and I explained that there was an issue with some of the equipment) Anyway, he again said I was doing a "great job" and that he wasn't "fussing at me" blah blah blah - the lady that did my job later told me that she had been "yelled" at for all the things I had done wrong. I took this with a grain of salt since this lady is a drama queen - but now I am starting to get paranoid. There are a lot of problems with the inventory and I am sure that the finger will be pointed at me.

I don't know what to think. I do know that I am well liked by everyone with maybe the exception of 2 women, but those 2 women are the ones that used to do my job and they have a lot of pull - one of them "trained me" or I should say sat on her arse while I tried to figure out what to do and she has already attempted to throw me under the buss. I guess what I am wondering is - would the owner have said I was doing a "great job" if he didn't mean it?

Not unless the owner is an idiot or is playing some kind of stupid game. On the off chance that's the case, why not ask for a formal review? You should have one on a regular basis anyway, at least once a year, and it gives you a chance to address any concerns you (or your boss) have. Plus it means your boss will set defined targets for you to meet - being able to do something by yourself by a certain date, getting a certain task done by a certain date, that kind of thing, and you can have input too.

Other than that, I'd just take a brief note somewhere or any good (or bad) feedback you get and relax and do your job! Truth is if the person who used to be in the role is that lazy and that much of a drama queen your boss is probably relived that you take constructive feedback!

Good Morning, everyone!

Well, as predicted last night, Husband was offered some voice over work for a local radio station. He did VO work years ago when he was stationed in California. (Husband has a really nice speaking voice). It's not much, but I think it made him feel better about everything.

I had a strong urge to smoke this morning coming into work, but it instantly abated as I watched a man in the next car over smoke. Just watching the physical action of smoking kindof repulsed me (which is good, because if it had furthered my fit, I would have had to stop for smokes and I would have kicked myself...)

Some people are so bad at management that they cannot even comprehend their effect on people. If he thinks that you are not doing a great job, he might cover it and avoid confrontation by telling you that you are.

Or if he has just some issues with you, he doesn't know how to separate those issues from what you are generally doing and address just those issues.

Or if he genuinely likes what you are doing, he might be sending mixed messages because of workplace politics.

Women can be very (perhaps uncharacteristically) cruel to other women in the workplace. Watch them closely. The two women are likely insecure and compensate by manipulation. Its a power-trip for them.

Some people will put more effort into not working, but making themselves look "good", then the amount of effort that it would take to actually do a good job.

Quote:

Sadly, yes. But it depends on the person. He might think that you are doing a great job, but hears from these two women that you are not, and doesn't know how to correctly manage the situation.

FMF - I really hope things smooth out for you. I know how much of an impact a crummy job situation can have on a person's general well-being.

Single postiness. And you thought you were going to be lucky.

FMF, did you see that web comic with Nathan in it? I liked that the poster said "FMF, don't get any ideas."

FMF- I'd agree with DTH and ask for a formal review/job description. I'd ask to meet with your boss and tell him you're concerned that you don't know all you should and would like to make sure you are giving the company your best. Ask for defined description of your responsibilities and a specific checklist of what paper work etc. Then you're sure and all is well...However you're a really strong worker and really responsible and hard working so I'd bet he means it

Asorta...Hey sweety how are you:)

Mav- whoo husband! Also way to go on the not smoking thing

NV- poke poke what is wrong sweety??? Answer your email:) HUGS

HK- ok laughed at you in a " aren't circumstances weird" or seriously laughing at you??? Glad she's sending you more treats
