Folks,
BBC covered the results of a poll done by SFX the previous month; and they started this poll:

http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6517155.stm

The poll on SFX poll yielded a win for serentiy:
http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=the_best_sf_movie_ever
And generated huge sales of Firefly and Serenity DVD's
http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=sfx_poll_result_sends_serenity

SFX is a major SF periodical in the UK, available for sale on most newsstands. BBC... is distributed world wide; if Serenity wins here, it is possible it would yield some major PR.

Unfortunately, we have no real way of telling when the poll will close; so I'm advocating that we push until we get ahead in this poll, then hang on for as long as we can!

My most recent analysis suggests they "accept" one vote a day from folks; unfortunately they don't tell you if you are voting "too soon", they just don't count the vote. Personally, I vote when I vote for "TV_vote" (see here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=28464 ) and just vote on BBC at the same time; I figure I'm getting my daily vote in one way or the other. But if you want to track your voting and just do it once a day, go for it... but make sure it's seperated by a full 24 hours.

Today's numbers, about 9:36 pm ET, and the previous 24 hours.
Title ___________ Rep% _ Total Today _ Today%

C'mon'coats, BDM needs your votes.

Beating SW on SFX - great stuff, but its not going to change our world. Beating SW on the BBC however, makes a statement. This might be the time & the place to make that statement.

Can't explain this surge of votes. Wild guess... some TV station mentioned the poll as a fluf piece, which got a bunch of folks to vote for a bit?

The high level of votes are still rolling in, this being 12 hours later... so perhaps not.

Well, one heck of a BBC voting day. Still no clue what triggered the high vote count; but we've done a great job of keeping gaining on Star Wars thru this. We gained 61 on SW today, which is no mean task! Well done!

Since I'm posting #'s late, figured I'd also do a delta to this morning.

The first set of numbers are relative to 9:23pm the previous night (so about 26 hours of data); where as the data on the right about is relative to the data on the left, thus the "today" is "today so far" and covers about 9 hours.

Last night, we were down just 110; already this morning we have cut it to 78! If we pull another day like yesterday, by end of day we should be ahead!

Has the Beeb forgotten all about this poll? Are they waiting for a clear winner to emerge? Will Alice ever tell Fred about Marge's baby?

Good to see we're holding that line...

I agree. I've gone all over that site looking for poll policy or a place to leave questions. I can't find anything.

I guess we keep quietly voting. I'm curious how many of us are still voting. I voted about 4-5 times yesterday. How about everyone else?

As long as we keep gaining, who cares. The page is reachable via Google, so people will keep seeing it.

Meanwhile, we are losing ground at another survey, where we were recently in the top ten.

Use this link to vote often for Serenity, and give the Star Wars and Star Trek fliks the ratings they deserve.

Leadb, I know you love ewoks but heaven's sake get with the program and vote for the big bad Heros.

You know, I'm not getting a clear picture of this poll. I'm voting 5-6 times a day. If we have 40 votes, and people are voting at roughly the same rate I am, then there are only around 7 people voting.

Or, is the poll taking 1 vote per computer per day? In which case, we have about 40 people voting.

Looking at this thread, I would say there are more than 7 and less than 40 people voting.

Losing ground. Only 619 ahead now.

I think you can vote once an hour. Only voted 1 time today so far. 2 I think yesterday. And I messed up several times and the count did not go up because I voted too early. Gonna be away from computer after today till Sunday night.

Once, I know for a fact I voted twice, separated by one hour and 5 minutes; and the second vote did not count.

I suspect it is only counting one vote a day, but I cannot prove it. I tend to vote when I vote for tv_vote, which means hourly.

I believe it only counts one vote every 24 hours. I voted at night a little earlier than the day before, and the vote count was the same afterwards as leadb had just posted.

So to clarify, if people are voting several times a day it may not actually have counted any votes past their very first, since they're in effect just "resetting" the 24-hour clock without their vote counting.

This is my belief.

I vote at 1pm on day 1; it counts.
I vote at 2pm on day 1; it does not count.
I vote several times ... it does not count.
I vote at 12:58pm on day 2; it doesn't count.
I vote at 1:01pm on day 2; it counts.
I vote ... serveral times it doesn't count.
I vote at 1:00pm on day 3; it does not count.
I vote at 7:pm on day 3, it counts.
I vote at 6pm on day 4, not
7:02pm on day 4, does count.
etc.

If you really want to be aggressive about only voting exactly when you are sure a vote will count I recommend you vote 2 seconds later each day, exactly once a day. I'm pretty sure then "all" your votes will count. Personally, I vote about hourly when I'm voting for tv_vote and don't worry about which one counts.

This is what I'm doing. It's easy peasy and I think it comes near counting that way as anything else we're doing.

Okay, so based on your voting I would sum up as:
1. Votes more than 24 hours apart count
2. Intermediate votes do not "reset" the 24-hour clock

That is a summation of my understanding. It is -possible- the site allows a vote once every 4, 6, or 8 hours; however, I have only been able to rule out 'hourly' and the site does not provide any specific guidance, and several folks have looked. If on the off chance the site counts votes every 8 hours, I would not discourage you from voting twice a day... but at this point, the only thing I'm >very< confident of is that daily votes count and that the time is not 'reset' by intermediate attempted votes. . . . however, if your information is correct, then you have fairly well eliminated some of the shorter intervals, and it is likely 24 hours.
