I was for about an hour. Now I'm super cranky. Some lady managed to misunderstand how a program works and blew away a ton of her work. She decided that's my problem and sent a high importance note with a ton of managers and their manager copied on it. Wonderful.

Yes, it's a great DVD, but the fact remains that she expressly said that she didn't want to be on it, and they did it anyhow. You would think with a fanbase as intelligent and close and family-like as ours that those wishes would have been respected. :-\

'tis certainly a possibility, but I stopped giving people the benefit of the doubt a while ago. Personal reasons, I suppose. From what I have seen of her on these and other forums, she doesn't have any problem with letting her feelings on an issue known.

Just woke up a half hour ago. Buffy put me to sleep. Looks like the DtI viewing session might have to wait for another day. Just as well since FlyVote has laid a moral dilemma before us...Nah. I can just be pissed on HK's behalf but would be a liar if I said I would pass on a chance to see her.

Evening all.

Today has been tiring to say the least. Firstly I got lost in Newcastle trying to find Northumbria university's library; then i spent ages wandering around because i've never been there before. then i had to read an incredibly boring article. I was seriously glad to get home.

Hope you've all had a good day

Nice to know how much DTH and Emma (and any other teachers who post here) are appreciated by you FlyVote and others like you Fly.

I'm not laughing, it's not funny, and quite honestly, it's beyond insulting to everyone besides MsG who do this as a career and not a "job."

....
I see no humor in what I've read, and I've stated my opinions. I've seen better treatment of others here when they made it a point to insult others intentionally...but you know what? I'm tired of this.

MsG: I wouldn't know anymore. Only time I know I have any affect is when I have to enforce the "mean" rules or help end near-riots. My suggestion: never become the off-ratio teacher if you like the classroom.

I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to get LotRO right away, Nicodemus.

I have now had the chance to see LotRO first hand. I'll give credit where credit is due and say that it looks at least as good as the other fantasy MMORPGs on the market, and perhaps better than most (I've never been an EQ fan, fwiw, and EQ2's graphics make me throw up in my mouth). But I still think it sucks big time.

The graphics are technically well done, but I swear to god I want to go into every MMORPG studio in the world and steal all their gray paint. No more gray! It's like they said "hmm, cloudless blue sky, no no, make it a more washed out, I-don't-want-to-get-out-of-bed-this-morning blue, more gray." It's just depressing! Especially if you're used to WoW's vibrant colors:

World of Warcraft:

Lord of the Rings Online:

By far my biggest complaint, though, is the shameless pimping of the characters from the books. Hubby was checking LotRO out, and decided to create a Dwarf character. One of the very first quests he gets, he gets help from both Gimli and Gandalf! They set the damn game during the Fellowship's trek! What on earth are Gandalf and Gimli doing standing around helping newbies?!? Gah!

Oh, and when you install the game and start it up, it says "Click Friend and enter." Did I mention that I'm sick of Turbine ing up the most iconic fantasy licenses out there?

Sigh. So, how is everyone else today?

'Neko, you are absolutely correct. There are lots of other teachers who post here, DTH & Emma & yourself included.
And you shouldn't just have an appreciation week. It should be every day.

I (believe) FlyVote said "MsG" because
a) she posts to this thread much, much more than DTH & Emma & any other teacher you could name, including you.
You used to be here a lot, lot more, well before FlyVote's time.
b) She has had a hard few days
c) She posted just above him.

No disrespect was implied or even insuinuated. Nor should it be taken as such, as I know FlyVote has the utmost respect for the people who post to this board.

I should know.

EDIT: Hugs, MsG.

Edit2: I know that it's probably just me, but I'm starting to think that I'm just an annoyance to everyone, and I think its time for me to move to lurk, and get-gone.??

that is what is really bugging you?

I certainly appreciate people being up front with me. But your approach leaves a bit to be desired. Frankly you are not in a position to speak for me and I prefer that you do not. You appear to be very unaware of my position on teachers. Perhaps read this thread: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=28526

Your accusation that I deliberately excluded anyone borders on libel. And when you say "others like you Fly" I would certainly hope that you are not deliberately insulting the other fine members of this thread.

I've expressed on several occasions that I like Emma and DTH. Your position is not a defensible one.

For your own sake I hope you resolve what is bothering you. I wish you and all teachers well.

In defence of Turbine, a lot of the scenery in LotR is Grey (stone, steel, fog, etc), so the colours are foregiveable to some extent.

Regarding the choice to set the game during the fellowship's trek, as opposed to some other point, well, this is one I can sympathise with both sides of the argument (and yes, I know that Dante said the hottest places in Hell are reserved for fence-sitters, but his Hell is a ball of ice, so the hottest spots are the nicest, plus I'm an atheist, so Hell is something I don't believe in). On the one hand, it would be nice to have a game that doesn't have all the big names handing out advice to teh noobs (or possibly being player-killed by them, if not directly, then by kiting a bunch of mobs at them). On the other hand, the fellowship is the most recognisable part of Middle-Earth for many people, and if they weren't to feature in the game, there'd be a massive outcry.

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll hold off buying it, partly because I should be saving money rather than spending it (DC swag fund) and partly because I don't know how well it'd play on dial-up.

Eh, I'll give them that -- though I still maintain there are ways to show stone, steel, fog, etc without going overboard into making everything destaurated and depressing. The LotR movies managed to use color well.

When I first heard they were going to make a MMORPG, I really really hoped they would set it at the beginning of the Fourth Age, or a few years earlier with the beginning of Aragorn's reign. There's several decades of relative peace during which the members of the Fellowship go back to some semblance of normal life, but there are still baddies in the east to be cleaned up. There's even a mention in the appendix of Gimli and Legolas starting a dwarven and elven colony in the south, in Ithilien. Not to mention Aragorn and Arwen in Minas Tirith, Sam as mayor of Hobbiton, etc. Sure, the major battle of the age has already been fought, but it's not like the players are going to be able to change the course of the War of the Ring anyway. Beginning of the Fourth Age seemed to me like the perfect setting for a LotR MMORPG.

...Man, I'm such a geek. Anyhow, Nicodemus, don't feel like you're missing anything. I'm sure the D*C swag will be much, much better, hehe.

Sorry to have given most of the thread-folk stress, especially you, MsG.

If it'll make you feel better, I'll make folks happier on this thread by clarifying:

* Fly's post didn't read as funny TO ME -- everyone else probably hasn't been dealing with at least one work crisis a week on average since the start of April, so it might have been funny to others.

* Because of the crises (suicide, funeral, week of testing, power outage in the middle of the day, pre-audit preparation, pre-planning for restructuring, 2 near-riots in one day, are some of them) with no letup, I'm pretty sure I'm on the verge of something...

* I've been trying to avoid posting a lot lately because of the stress of said crises...and really been trying to keep my tone neutral. Apparently I suck at it -- even when I post stuff like 'May Day is lei day, so let's get lei'd' gets nothing.

But you know what? I think I know the answer for all of this...and I apologize for taking up time, energy, and irritating everyone on here. No more "fighting" from me.

Neko: Honestly, if you had said: "Hey moron, you appear to have forgotten that there are several teachers on this list. What about them?" That would have been better.

My reply would have included an apology for inadvertently excluding other teachers.

But you basically accused me of deliberate enmity toward a general group that I greatly respect, and antipathy toward at least two people that post here that I really like. That is just not groovy.

I feel no animus toward you, despite this exchange. I hope that you work out what is bothering you and that you understand my position.

Told ya The Unit was a great ep! Best of the year, imho. Husband & I agreed that our next box set to view would be The Shield. I'll let you know once we've started it.

I haven't heard if The Unit was renewed or not.

So I see from your post in the bar you are home today? Lucky dog.

Morning all. I have averted 3 crisis and it's barely 8:30 am...I am super woman ( or a reasonable facsimile)

You'll get the attention of Joss. He'll write a TV show about you.

Then, although it will be great, Fox will cancel it. Even if Fox isn't the network airing it, somehow they'll cancel it.

Then you'll hear about a small army of MSG fanatics on MSGfans.net...

My hopes are not high at all.

Really I'd just like a game where you can form your own crew and go out taking jobs around the verse. It doesn't need a single character from the show/movie IMO. Just set the game in the Firefly/Serenity universe and let us explore.

Right now I am so behind on Tivo it's frightening. Main problem is the Jazz games. Husband is a big fan and they're in the playoffs so Monday night we went to my brothers ( game ended around midnight) Tuesday was tutoring and when that was done we watched the comedies that had recorded on Monday. Yesterday we watched the Jazz, tonight is late night ( til 10 ) tutoring and there's a Jazz game Friday. So far I've missed CSI:Miami, NCIS, 3 Buffy episodes, CSI: New York, Bones, Law and Order Special Victims, and Law and Order Criminal Intent. The poor little tivo is gasping. Also I have realized I watch too much tv...giggle

You must've missed my post on NCIS. I won't spoiler you at all, but suffice it to say,
I laughed at the ridiculousness of a specific -um- plot device.

It was so unworthy of NCIS, and so horrifying to me as an Abby fan that I laughed at the tv.

Let me know when you watch it so we can discuss.

(Don't hurry home & watch it, except Mark Harmon did look pretty good in the ep.)

hey did you know the actress who plays Abbey has a real life stalker. Her former boyfriend apparently has been terrorizing her. He's been charged before with several other women and apparently is really slick at manuevering. He makes her life really stressful. Poor thing. She's such a great actress and such fun.

Neko,

Don't go away... Us ocassional posters need to stick together. It's easy to be overlooked...but don't take it personally.

Just as a quick note: my first thought after Flyvote's post was "hey, there's a lot more teachers than that," your name being the first to pop into my head. Sorry work has been so stressful lately. Work can really suck sometimes, even when it is work that is meaningful and worthy of praise.

What else: DTI: I'm going to assume it was a mistake. The put the picture in not realizing it corresponded to the "no please don't use my picture," response. Or perhaps the person that asked the question wasn't the person responsible for editing or some such other reason. I can't imagine it would be done on purpose.

But, HK you can still be unhappy that it's there...

Let's see, this week I went dancing b/c my Atlanta friend was in town. 'Cept dancing is Monday night...which is Heroes night...so I only danced for like an hour. Friend was perplexed when I left, wanted to know the reason, but I wouldn't tell him. I'm such a huge and complete dork.

Note to self: When Zeek gets grumpy, bring him ice cream. ( I was laughing pretty hard at "she's still blocked." )

I'm currently trying to download the Rolex Three-day event footage. Holy schikeys, it's taken almost 8 hours for the 5 downloads I've done so far...and I am doing it from a T1 (we have two here). Files are around 700MBs each...I can't imagine trying to do it from a dial-up. Only two to go, so....

Almost forgot to say hi. Took a few mental health days, but seem to need more. With 270+ hours left of leave, seems there could be more days coming.

(Considering that I'm having one hell of a bad f**king year so far, this is me doing my best not to post a snarky reply to that statement, cuz I imagine it wasn't written how I'm reading it.) ^^

If there is no intent to abide by people's wishes / rights, then the question "Is it all right if we use you in this documentary?" should not even be asked.

Since they did ask, on several occassions, then they are responsible for following through with it.

For me, it's really as simple as that.
