Emma - I don't have any fail-safe advice for avoiding nightmares. For your sake I really wish that I did. I can only say find something that you find comforting and bring that with you to bed. Favorite stuffed animal? (I'm an old guy and I still have mine from when I was 5 somewhere in a box.) Concentrate on that. Think about those memories. Try to fall back asleep with those positive thoughts in mind, rather than dwelling on the nightmare.

And *hugs*. Lots of *hugs*. I wish I had more - oh wait - here is another *hug*.

Sweet dreams, precious Emma.

Yipes! Emma, that's horrible!

What I've always heard is that everyone in a dream represents some part of ourselves. What aspect of youself is represented by the crew and your sister? What might these aspects be having issues with? What about them might be harming you or turning violent? That's really all I've got; my mom's the one that's good at these. She's really good at saying "Well, your subconcious is probably trying to tell you this..." which always helps me see it as a message rather than a terror. *huggggs* I hope you can sleep again!

I used to have a lot of nightmares as a little kid. Fewer and fewer over the years. I'm of the non-professional opinion that your brain scares you and that it generates new neural pathways. So you are training your brain to handle real-life stress, which is a good thing. My wife says I'm very calm under fire - my early nightmares could be why.

Oops - here is another: *hug*

That's an interesting way to look at it!

I wonder, has anyone else had dreams where people they love and respect turn evil? I've occasionally (okay quite often!) had deeply disturbing dreams where I'm getting hot and heavy with someone I am not at all attracted to (even relatives! Ick!) and I'm starting to worry about the state of my psyche!

I did indeed Thank you so much! And thanks for the little note, too; starting to get slightly nervous 'bout the new job and everything. I know it'll be fine, just one of those things when I've never done it before so I'm nervous. So yes, thank you

You'll be great PR! If you can deal with the stress they laid on you in your old job, getting to know a few new colleagues and learn the ropes will seem like a doddle!

Right, I might try the sleep thing again in a minute. Wish me luck!

I've had both kinds. Remember, it's not always representing the person themself. Though I'm pretty sure the one where my ex slit my throat and drank my blood could be translated pretty literally, as the break up was sapping my energy
But that's beside the point. Usually people represent an aspect of you, and the symbols are all... crazy.

*edit* Sleep well, Emma! *gets Emma a soft plushie bunny to snuggle with*

Dreams (I think) are not about your conscious mind. I don't see them as an indication of your current desires as much as your effort to deal with those desires. Kissing your brother in a dream? I don't see that as you really wanting to kiss your brother. Instead your brain is saying "Here is something icky/stressful - deal with it". Then your brain trains itself to deal with whatever it is.

Having come to that realization as a young adult, I took a big step toward fewer bad dreams.

Again: Sweet dreams and go hug a stuffed animal. *hug*

Once. They were okay, but just tooooo strong. If the ginger flavor had been slightly more subtle it would have gone a lot better with the chocolate (and my tastebuds) but as it was it kind of burned.

Been wanting to read some Dresden. Friend of mine lent me a tape of the show they made out of it, and I really liked it. Always looking for books I'll enjoy, though at the moment I have two pretty new books from one of my very favorite authors ever, so I'm good

Where should I look for Dresden books?

I'm here and there on the weekend. The bar is open 24/7 but does drop off on weekends. The imponderable thread is visited actively for the most part during working hours (continental USA) and gets even thinner than the bar on the weekends.

I'm very glad that you got back to sleep last night.

You're on! Mavourneen and MSG recommended the Dresden books to me. So I picked up #1. It rated a "high good" and I was told #2 is better. So I picked up 2-9. (Yes I'm obsessive). I'm in the middle of #3. Trying hard to get time to read in my busy schedule.

Review:
"The offbeat Dresden Files is an expanding series of detective novels about Harry Dresden, a wizard with a consulting practice in modern-day Chicago. Harry's profession offers him little money, lots of mockery, the suspicion of his magical colleagues, plenty of danger, and not much income. It offers readers some unconventional detective work, whimsy, humor, and suspense. Here Dresden discovers that mobsters have enlisted occult forces for nefarious purposes."

HUGS Em I am so sorry sweety. I know how disturbing dreams can be...MY scariest one doesn't even sound scary, but it terrified me for days. I dreamed I woke up and reached for MisterG and he wasn't in bed. When I leaned over to look for him I could see a knife laying on the floor. I knew ( somehow) that it meant someone was in the house. I woke up and everything was fine, but I'm still freaked by that dream...HUGS and HUGS again

Rose- oh you will love Dresden!!! They're amazing books and very respectful and not cheesy at all with regard to witchcraft The author is Jim Butcher and Barnes and Nobles carries them...HUGS and let me know what you think ok:) ( also I am trying to get my friend do put his firefighter shirt up on cafe press so that others may enjoy:)

Funny you should mention that slogan. There's been a plan for a while now for our brigade to include boxer shorts in the next lot of clothing orders we do every year or two (mostly t-shirts, caps, beanies, jackets). On the back of them would be the "find 'em hot, leave 'em wet" (divided equally across), and on one of the front legs would be the Stirling CFS logo, encircled with "putting out since 1948".

Thanks for the sympathy! I'm shattered today! Lack of sleep catching up to me. Had a bad night last night as well, my dad was supposed to be getting in at midnight after driving across the country but didn't get in until 4am. I kept having to get up to see if he was home yet. I think it is even more scary when you fear for a loved one's safety as you showed by your nightmare.

I guess my bad dreams have something to do with my first external observation that'd happening on Tuesday morning. Basically someone's going to come and assess my teaching and say if I'm good enough. I've planned an interesting lesson involving first aid for snakes, cats and wild hedgehogs (complete with live animals) so it could either go really well or REALLY badly!

Madga, I absolutely ADORE that emote! I think that should be my new motto!

PR, if I don't get to talk to you before hand good luck with your first day of your new job. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.

He he he he... I might not put it on my resume or anything - but I thought I would share it all the same!!

Very cute, Magda. I would agree that it might not be the best thing to add to a resume.

*walks into bar*

Ouch!

sorry, using bad humour to improve my mood as my results came be negative so they still don't know what is up with my gorram stomach. I'll have a green tea and some toast & will be in the corner working or possibly reading part 3 of Mav's stories depending on whether I can find the will to work or not.

mornin' drinkers.

Still catching up on the weekend, but I thought I would drop a note and see who else was up. In a bit of an aggressive mood this morning. :\

* starts a pot of The Good Stuff and wanders around idly tidying up the bar *

Mav's Delia cycles is what I was talking about although sadly, I am actually having to work for my living, which is not a surprise at the moment as I have more jobs than can be done in work hours at the moment, something I am trying to explain to my boss, who sadly agrees but then doesn't talk to the rest of the management about how understaffed we are.

More tea, that's what is needed!
