Okay, I know the weapons aren't the point of the show but you gotta admitt, they wind up with some of the coolest weapons on Firefly!
I was just curious to see how many people had a Firefly arsenal in their collection. Or any firefly prop for that matter.
I'm a big fan of prop building and am currently working on a Jayne-type handgun. It's a custom design but I think it's something that Jayne would've been proud to carry. I should have some photos of it in the next couple days but in the meantime... anybody else packin'?

Are you making the one that Adam named Boo?
I like that handgun the most besides the one that River has in Serenity.

Nope, unfortunatly I dont really have the income right now (student with no job) to be able to afford any props for my arsenal. I do have a bowie knife that looks a bit like Jaynes tho.

OK, but soccer/football smack aside;
nobody on this forum is collecting Firefly/Serenity weapons props?

Also, I tried to email the site at the "contact" address and got an "undeliverable message" back.
So, I still don't know how to post actual pics instead of links.
Can anybody help?

Thanks,

I love my captain

Wow man. That's pretty impressive. I would love to do something like that but I have no idea how one would go about makeing such things. Also, I tend to be more into bladed type weapons thatn guns, even if our BDHs do have such very cool guns.

I have question. It sounds like you make these things yes? Would you maybe be willing to make some for comissions? And if you would what kind of price would we be talking about. I really like the fact that you make custome models.

Well Kanya, if you were talking to me I'd be glad to talk to you about the gun I'm making. It's nowhere near finished and with this being my first... it's probably not the best. I'm also currently trying to save up for my vacation so I had to go super cheap on it. I mainly just used stuff I had from my other "proping endeavours"
And as much as I hate to show off things before I've finished them, here is a horrible cell-phone pic of my progress so far.

I think the other guys on the board here, have purchased or made resin models of the "accurate" guns... and they look amazing! But like I said, if you want to talk to me about making you some custom guns, I would be happy to talk!
But if you're looking for the movie or tv show guns... checkout Wilcomodels on ebay!

I have been trying to build metal, working-feature, prop weapons whenever possible. I'm a machinist by trade, so metal wotking is my profession. Unfortunately I can't do work for others on a commission basis because I do my hobby work when I get a chance at work.

The breakdown of my collection is:
2 resin Mal pistols w/ wood grips not done
3 metal Jayne LeMat pistols finished
1 metal Jayne LeMat unfinished
1 real metal Jayne knife "Binky"
1 metal Zoe Mare's Leg pistol/carbine
1 metal River bar pistol
1 resin River bar pistol
2 resin and metal Jubal Early pistols unfinished
1 resin Wash BDM pistol not done
4 plastic Blue Hand Ariel Death Devices
1 real metal Operative sword
2 metal Serenity pop-open grenades
1 metal Jayne Serenity auto-pistol unstarted

and finally, I'm building a metal Alliance rifle of my own design for a "Purple-Belly" trooper costume I stumbled into.

The last two items are the furthest from completion. Pics to follow.

Re: the custom design Jayne-type handgun, I'd suggest keeping the features and colors very real-gun-like, or it will come across as more "steampunk" than Firefly 'verse. Remember that the western guns of the 500 year future 'verse history are the result of planets in a high tech future universe being settlled and then reverting to simpler technologies. So they would have all the advantages of modern weapons knowledge but they would be limited by low tech tools and production methods. To my mind, a crude Sten-like submachinegun would be right at home with a lever action rifle.

Thanks for the tips Mike. As far as the custom I'm building, this might make you cringe a bit, but it is going to be rather over the top. I decided to go all Rambo with it after seeing Vera! Jayne's very favorite gun. This could be considered kind of a companion to Vera... maybe I'll call it Val
I do understand what you're saying about the weapons though... high tech but minimalist. I will probably wind up trying to convert some airsoft guns after this one and will head your words on my next attempts. But for this one I think it's a little to late for anything being minimal. Keep in mind this is my very first 'verse weapon too... so it might not be the best.

Nuthin' gonna make me cringe, its all about the fun!

I just wanted to make a stylistic suggestion to help your stuff look like it was from the 'verse.
Steampunk is a look where old timey technologies are used to make science fiction devices, like a robot that runs on steam or a ray gun that uses Edison era arc lights to generate the light that gets focused into a laser.

Vera was sort of a blending of Earth-That-Was Kalashnikov tech with high tech materials, ammo and sighting gear. I think of what you are going for would be like a revolver with high tech add-ons like advanced sights, ballistics hop-ups or the targeting aid refered to by Kalee (in Objects In Space) as autofire.

Far as it not being "the best"; well really, its not about that so much as having fun, being satisfied with the realization of your creativity and learning to improve. Good luck and I hope it turns out like what you wanted!

Thanks again Mike!
As you say it IS all about having fun! I always have fun on every build I do... well, almost every build.
And with pretty much all of my props I wind up going with a custom sort of design. Partly because I just like to be creative, partly because it can sometimes be cheaper that way, and partly because I don't have access to a full workshop so sometimes I am simply unable to make something completely screen accurate.
But, as you said, it's all about having fun and I most definately do! I should have the custom done completely by the end of the week. I'll keep everyone posted.

A Phillipes casting with wooden grips and lots of work to go.
I'd like to put a steel barrel insert in this to give it a bit more heft.

I know the Operative sword looks brass, but its not. Some light trick on stainless steel.
Not a true Operative sword, but with a little work on the handles, close enough.

The Blue Hands guys death do-hickie is static.
One day I want to build a pop open version.

The helmet is a fiberglass replica I'm finishing up to paint in "Purple-Belly" Alliance trooper colors.

The classified sheet has the text from the screen used prop that the Operative looked at in the files viewing room.

The pins are excellent replicas of Simon's River-breakout-uniform-pins.

Thanks for the compliment, but don't start drooling. Look at how much unfinished work there is yet to do! I built or modified nearly every major piece as a way to keep the costs down, Of course its very satisfying to be able to see a collection like this as a reflection of your own work and artistic input, but it is sometimes overwhelming to think of how much more there is to go. And even at that, the accuracy of some of the pieces is compromised by modifying or building rather than just buying a completed prop.

Still, I love my 'verse-y stuff because it is like a tangible realization of a fictional world I'd love to live in!
